Chapter 233: Chapter 229 Jiang An, Wait for Me
Chapter 229 Jiang An, Wait for Me
Three people spent an entire day playing in the amusement park. By the time they returned in the evening, Yanyan was already asleep in Jiang An’s arms, and it was nightfall when Gao Chuan drove her home.
The woman carefully placed the child on the car seat and, as she got out of the car, realized Gao Chuan was already waiting for her. Seeing her heading straight to bypass him and go upstairs, he called out to her.
"Jiang An."
The man called out her name and walked towards her with sluggish movements, his tall figure overshadowing the light above her head.
"I know you are still blaming me," Gao Chuan looked down at her, his voice subdued, cool yet soft.
"I didn’t do well before, I didn’t know how to love properly, and I made you suffer."
Hearing the man bring up the past suddenly, Jiang An’s expression sank drastically, a deep sense of loss filling her heart.
"You said you wanted a simple and plain love marriage. From now on, I will learn slowly," the man’s gaze was on her, his expression sluggish but filled with sincerity.
The old him had been too egocentric, always assuming Jiang An would still be waiting for him where she was, but in reality, the one who stayed put was him.
He simply couldn’t let go.
Because he loved Jiang An, probably more deeply than he ever imagined.
In this relationship, it was ultimately his sluggishness and presumption that led Jiang An to choose to leave disappointingly.
Now he finally understands, love is not as simple as he thought.
Love means mutual respect, cherishing each other.
Not seizing roughly or binding forcefully.
From this moment on, for her, he would learn slowly, learn how to pursue someone, how to care for someone.
He would make Jiang An willingly come back to him.
Or rather, fall in love with him again.
"Jiang An, wait for me."
Gao Chuan’s words drifted into Jiang An’s ears along with the breeze, and the woman looked up to meet his deep eyes, feeling a mix of emotions.
She once thought her heart had died, that she would never fall in love with anyone ever again.
But at this moment, her heart seemed to break free from its restraints, a flower thought to be withered blooming once again.
"It’s getting late, go upstairs and rest. See you tomorrow," Gao Chuan didn’t hope for her immediate response; he would do his utmost to draw close to her again.
Just that this time, it would be slowly, step by step.
---
The new week began, and Jiang An returned to work at the hospital.
Since it was her turn for the night shift, she didn’t make it home until the early hours of the next day, yawning all the way, her mind on the little bed at home.
As she arrived at her apartment building, she noticed a truck parked at the entrance, and when she attempted to pass by, she recognized a familiar face.
It was the secretary who had delivered her things that morning.
She was momentarily stunned, puzzled when the man already noticed her and proactively greeted her with a formulized, "Good morning, Ms. Jiang."
Jiang An, seeing people moving things around, instantly felt a bad premonition but was too lazy to inquire and simply exchanged a brief greeting with the man before heading upstairs.
Perhaps due to excessive weariness, she almost fell asleep the moment she lay on her bed, forgetting all about the matter.
After sleeping until the afternoon, Jiang An woke up, checked the time, and decided to make_some food in the kitchen. Suddenly, she discovered that the refrigerator WaitForSeconds instanceof returned TrueInvoker almost_empty; she changed into a new set of clothes planning to shop at a supermarket not far from her apartment.
As she prepared to leave the apartment, she had just walked down a few steps when she saw Gao Chuan slowly climbing up. In the narrow hallway, they both paused in surprise upon seeing each other.
Jiang An had no intention of stopping to greet him and was about to walk away when the man quickly grabbed her arm and lifted the other_hand_carrying a bag indicating to her, softly saying, "I packed some wontons, do you want some?"
The two paused there, Jiang An stood on the higher step, looking down at the man for once―from an unusually overlooking angle―his finely chiseled nose above thin lips like water, his eyes tired as he looked up at her.
"No thank you." She quickly shrugged off his hand and after refusing, immediately stepped down the stairs.
Gao Chuan turned to watch her hurriedly escape, his eyes drooping with a hint of loss.
After walking out of the apartment, Jiang An slowly stopped_and looked back, relieved to see that he wasn’t following her.
Having bumped into Gao Chuan, she had already figured it out, and it probably matched her earlier speculation.
Gao Chuan had moved in, for her.
She then realized what he meant by his last night’s "See you tomorrow".
---
After Jiang An’s rejection, Gao Chuan ascended the stairs alone.
He had gone to great lengths to rent a room here, right above Jiang An’s house.
He had never lived in such a studio apartment before; a one-bedroom space felt rather cramped compared to the villas he had previously lived in.
Originally, he intended to move in personally that morning, but a sudden meeting at the company commanded Secretary Chen’s proxy, and his day had been busy from start to finish.
Fortunately, he had no plans tonight, and he drove around quite a bit to purchase Jiang An’s favorite wontons.
Regrettably, she seemed unappreciative.
He entered and placed the wontons on the table and started unpacking his luggage in the living room.
He didn’t bring many belongings, and Secretary Chen had responsibly prepared his daily necessities and some essential furniture. He took out some of his frequently worn clothes from his suitcase and hung them in the wardrobe.
After finishing all tasks, he noticed the darkness outside as he took out his laptop and started handling work-related matters in the living room.
The workload at the company was not light. As a vice-president, he had a lot to do, often having to stay late at the office, not much different from his time at the hospital.
Gao Yu often advised him not to overwork himself and to allow himself some relaxation, but with his workaholic nature, he hardly rested for more than a few days in a year.
In the years Jiang An wasn’t there, his life returned to its previous dullness, living alone with early departures and late returns, as if only the fully packed work schedule could temporarily numb him and stop his longing for her.
But times have changed now, he intended to allocate his time and energy to Jiang An.
They had days to come.
