Chapter 216: Chapter 212 Gao Chuan Has Always Been Alone
Chapter 212: Gao Chuan Has Always Been Alone
During the four years when Jiang An left Gao Family without a word, many changes had taken place, and perhaps the most gratifying one was that Shen Mei finally got the grandson she had wished for.
Not long after she left, Ji Wanwan discovered she was pregnant, and after a ten-month pregnancy, she gave birth to a little master, whom the elder personally named Gao Yan.
This year, the little guy just turned three.
Jiang An had been in contact with Ji Wanwan as friends while abroad, and she had only seen Wanwan’s precious son in videos and photos. Today, she was finally going to meet him in person, and her heart was filled with anticipation.
The woman tidied up briefly and stepped out, taking a taxi to the mall first. She lingered in the children’s section for a long time before buying a toy car for the little boy she had never met.
Ji Wanwan and Gao Yu still lived in the villa in the East Suburb. When Jiang An arrived, it was nearly noon. She pressed the doorbell, and promptly, a servant came to open the door for her.
Jiang An, carrying the toy car, followed the servant inside. Passing the villa’s small courtyard, she saw many toys scattered on the ground, with the originally tidy garden now resembling a children’s playground.
The servant led her inside, and as soon as Jiang An opened the door, she saw a little boy with bushy eyebrows and large eyes, only as tall as her thighs, staring up at her with his round, bulging cheeks, looking like a little bun.
She hurriedly exchanged glances with him and then bent down with a smile, saying warmly, "You must be little Yan Yan!"
Jiang An had always had a way with children, perhaps because she had a baby face herself, making it easy for her to get close to kids.
She thought her greeting was gentle and her smile sweet enough to win Yanyan’s affection, but to her surprise, the little boy shyly ran away upon seeing her.
Jiang An looked at the fleeing little one’s back, feeling quite embarrassed. The servant hurried to comfort her, saying that the little master was just shy.
Agreeing with a nod, she recalled her chats with Ji Wanwan, who had insisted that Gao Yan was a lively child. Why did he run away upon seeing her? Could it be that he didn’t like her?
While she pondered, Ji Wanwan happened to hear the noise and came down from upstairs. Seeing Jiang An at the door, she called out loudly from the stairs, "Anan!"
Despite not seeing each other for so long, the two felt no estrangement and hugged tightly for a while before letting go. Jiang An had already put down the toy car and was spun around by Ji Wanwan, whose tone was filled with admiration: "Wow, look at you, turning into a charming little lady in seconds!"
Jiang An responded to the teasing with a shy smile. Indeed, she had changed a lot from before. Living abroad alone, working and studying at the same time, she matured considerably over the four years. Furthermore, her style of dressing had changed, making her completely different from the girl she once was. It was no wonder Ji Wanwan was surprised.
"I haven’t even started on you yet, the way you’re ageing backward!" Jiang An exclaimed, nudging her lips in admiration.
Even though Ji Wanwan retired from the entertainment industry a few years ago, she was still slender and curvy, not looking like someone who had a child at all.
After exchanging pleasantries, Ji Wanwan remembered to introduce her son to Jiang An. Turning to the living room, she found the usually noisy little guy was quietly lying on the couch, playing with toys. Pulling Jiang An over, she said to the boy on the couch, "Gao Yan, come here. This is Aunt Anan who I told you is coming to visit us."
The person on the couch heard her and looked up slightly but didn’t move an inch.
Ji Wanwan stood puzzled; the Little Demon had suddenly become shy, which was completely out of character for her son.
Jiang An had a spark of inspiration and picked up the gift she bought from the mall, gently coaxing, "Yan Yan, look what I’ve brought for you?"
The little boy shyly glanced over and saw his favorite toy. He then looked up at the two adults before hesitantly walking over to Jiang An’s side.
Upon Ji Wanwan’s prompting beside him, the little one finally glanced timidly at Jiang An and softly said, "Sister."
Hearing her son sweetly address her that way, Ji Wanwan couldn’t help but purse her lips into a smile.
Jiang An then bent down to pat the little guy on the head, affectionately praising, "Yanyan, you have such a sweet mouth."
Thinking it over, she was a 28-year-old woman being called sister, and she couldn’t help feeling overjoyed.
Jiang An spent the afternoon at Ji Wanwan’s home, gradually warming up to the children, and the two of them played with sand in the small garden outside.
Ji Wanwan sat on the side, watching them play happily, and then went inside to order the house servants to prepare some desserts for afternoon tea.
Eventually, Jiang An couldn’t keep up with the children’s enthusiasm and took a break, picking up the fruit tea Ji Wanwan had prepared and sipping it gently.
Ji Wanwan turned her head to look at Jiang An and suddenly asked, "I heard that Ms. Shen went straight to the airport to block you yesterday?"
Upon hearing this, Jiang An slightly furrowed her brow, recalling the unpleasant experience at the Gao Family’s place yesterday, and nodded.
"Ah, you don’t know, the two elders really like you. When you left, they kept pressuring Gao Chuan to chase you back," sighed Ji Wanwan, her memory of those past events still fresh.
Shen Mei and Gao Lin, knowing Jiang An had suffered so much from the car accident and miscarriage, immediately hit Gao Chuan at the scene, insisting that he must win Jiang An back as their daughter-in-law.
This contained both guilt and an undeniable fondness for Jiang An.
Hearing her say this, Jiang An’s gaze darkened, and ripples of emotion surfaced in her heart.
Back then, she had left in a hurry, only wanting to quickly shake off that unhappy marriage, not thinking too much about anything else.
"So, did you meet Gao Chuan yesterday?" Seeing Jiang An looking so lost, Ji Wanwan still couldn’t help but ask.
Whenever they gathered, they inevitably talked about Gao Chuan, and Jiang An wasn’t surprised. She nodded with an indifferent expression.
Ji Wanwan remembered the confrontation she had with Gao Chuan in the café back then. She wasn’t so confused as to not see Gao Chuan’s feelings for Jiang An, but at the time she was also blinded by anger, only thinking of feeling sorry for Jiang An, hoping that after the divorce, Jiang An could break free sooner.
But four years down the line, she realized how cruel her actions had been to Gao Chuan.
"Gao Chuan... has been alone all this time," Ji Wanwan said sincerely, her eyes falling on Jiang An beside her.
But as soon as the words left her mouth, Jiang An cut her off, resolutely saying, "I’m happy today; I don’t want to talk about this."
She and Gao Chuan were no longer involved; whether he was alone or not had nothing to do with her, Jiang An thought to herself.
Seeing this, Ji Wanwan had no choice but to let the matter drop, quickly shifting the conversation upon realizing she had touched on Jiang An’s sore spot.
Unaware of how time had flown, the sun had set in the west, and the twilight was deepening, yet the children were still tirelessly dragging Jiang An into playing with the Water Gun.
Now that Yanyan was familiar with Jiang An, she was no longer timid, even revealing her true nature. She boldly targeted Jiang An, who stood not far away, with a burst of water, daringly challenging, "Sister, watch out for the gun!"
Today, Jiang An was wearing a blue pleated dress, and with the child sweeping at her with the Water Gun, she was taken aback as the front of her dress became damp.
She looked up to see the child sticking out her tongue triumphantly at her and hurriedly picked up another Water Gun to "retaliate."
The two enjoyed themselves in the garden, spraying water at each other wildly, the tiny droplets coalescing in mid-air into a line, landing on Jiang An’s hair.
Jiang An was not to be outdone, cradling the Water Gun in her arms as she continued the battle, about to push water again, when the child standing opposite suddenly stopped, looking in excitement toward the direction behind Jiang An and called out "Uncle" with surprise.
