Chapter 186 He Thinks She’s Making a Scene
The party was still glittering with stars, and Gao Chuan dragged Jiang An through the crowd towards the upstairs lounge.
The man walked briskly, harshly pulling the girl’s arm, causing her sharp pain.
Jiang An hurried to match his pace, sensing the anger in his movements. Her wrist throbbed with pain as she pleaded in a low voice, "Dr. Gao, slow down."
However, at this moment, the enraged Gao Chuan seemed utterly unable to hear her, pulling her along until they reached the room and slammed the door behind them, making her shiver in fright.
Just when she wanted to move her wrist that was marked red from his grip, she was suddenly pinned against the wall behind her, looking up into his fierce eyes.
She could tell, he was angry because she attended here against his advice and made a fool of herself in public.
The oppressive feeling of being surrounded by the crowd washed over her again. Knowing she was in the wrong, Jiang An lowered her head, not daring to meet his eyes.
"Jiang An, what did I tell you, did you take my words as wind?" The man loosened his Windsor-knotted tie, his face shadowed as he stared at her.
Tonight, first seeing her dressed revealingly at the banquet, naively unaware of how to reject other men’s advances, then being surrounded and accused by a crowd, unable to retaliate—thinking of this, he couldn’t control his inner fury.
He originally didn’t want her to step into this muddy circle, but Jiang An stubbornly broke his prohibition time and again.
Sensing the darkness in his eyes, Jiang An’s grievances piled up to the limit. She looked up, her voice hoarse as she questioned him, "Why won’t you let me come? Have you ever planned to publicly acknowledge my status?"
If not, why had he never actively taken her to meet his friends? Why had he never told her about the affairs of the Gao Family?
Ultimately, she was just a tool used to appease his family; he probably never thought about presenting her rightfully by his side one day.
Of course, perhaps she was not worthy.
She thought, as per Ji Wanwan’s advice, by wearing an elegant dress, elegant high heels, and trying to mingle in the flashy and colorful world, she could enter his world and understand his life, but she repeatedly made a fool of herself, rendered speechless by Song Xin’s schemes.
She was no saint; she could feel wronged, she could feel jealous, but he had never truly understood her.
Gao Chuan, seeing the person in front of him not only not admitting her mistakes but also speaking fervently, his gaze suddenly darkened.
"Dr. Gao, you’ve never truly loved me." Jiang An pulled away from his grasp, finally breaking down, tears uncontrollably circling in her eyes.
Gao Chuan had never seen Jiang An talk back to him in such a loud and strained voice before. The words tugged at his heartstrings.
The man froze on the spot, the words he wanted to say stuck in his throat.
Jiang An, seeing the still silent man in front of her, cried even harder, venting all of her frustration from the evening, "Are you so furious today just because I wore this blue dress? I admit that I am no match for Song Xin, but I am Mrs. Gao now, why does everyone end up blaming me?"
Her agitated tone reached Gao Chuan’s ears, his eyes flashing coldly.
So this was the real reason for her irrational temper? Did she still think there was something inappropriate between him and Song Xin?
The man sighed slightly, reaching out to hold Jiang An’s hand, "Jiang An, stop making a scene. There is nothing between us, stop overthinking."
Jiang An, tears streaming down her face, heard his words and her pupils suddenly widened, her lips curving into a cold smirk.
He thought she was making a scene.
He thought she was overthinking.
Perhaps it was the overwhelming emotions; Jiang An suddenly felt a wave of darkness before her eyes and staggered backwards.
Gao Chuan raised his hand to support her, and looking at the girl’s weakened expression, he commanded, "I’ll send someone to take you home first, we’ll talk about tonight’s matter later."
Jiang An weakly held her forehead, feeling utterly drained throughout her body, and was helped by the man to sit down on a chair beside.
By the time she recovered, Gao Chuan had already gone out to call someone for her, leaving her no choice but to sit alone on the chair and wait for him.
Her originally delicate makeup was now completely smeared by tears, making her look utterly worn out.
Not long after, footsteps were heard in the room, Jiang An opened her eyes and saw a pair of white high heels, she looked up and saw Song Xin, who had changed into a new dress.
The woman looked down at her with disdain at her miserable state, her red lips pursed tightly.
Jiang An, seeing it was her, didn’t get up, her lips quivering and muttering, "Are you satisfied now?"
Upon hearing this, Song Xin scoffed with contempt, undoubtedly, she was the complete victor today.
But how could she be easily satisfied, the woman slowly leaned down to Jiang An’s ear and said very smugly, "Jiang An, do you know what it means to mimic Dongshi’s frown?"
Sitting in the chair, Jiang An was so angry she almost smoked, and as she glared, her vision suddenly darkened again.
She didn’t remember having a habit of low blood sugar, but recently she inexplicably had these episodes of blackouts.
Just as Song Xin straightened up, a man knocked on the door and asked which of them was Mrs. Gao, as Gao Chuan asked him to help drive someone home.
Song Xin watched the girl being supported by the man as she left, her beautiful face relaxed.
She returned to the banquet, knowing that Gao Chuan hadn’t left yet, she surveyed the surroundings in search of the man’s figure. As she approached the dessert stand and was about to turn around, someone suddenly threw a cup of red wine in her face, causing her to scream loudly, drawing the attention of many in the hall.
The cold liquid slowly trickled down her face, and in a fit of rage, she opened her eyes wanting to see who would be so reckless, but what caught her eye was Ji Wanwan, who had just placed the cup aside.
"Are you crazy? Why did you splash me?" Song Xin cursed loudly.
Ji Wanwan clenched her teeth, glaring at the woman in front of her as if she was not finished venting, "You like being splashed, don’t you? Let me give you your fill then."
As she spoke, Wanwan casually picked up another glass of red wine and splashed it on Song Xin in the same manner, and Song Xin couldn’t dodge in time, her freshly changed dress instantly stained by the wine.
"You..." Song Xin snarled, raising her hand to strike Ji Wanwan’s face, but before she could swing, her hand was caught in mid-air by Gao Yu, who had come around unbeknownst to her.
"What do you think you’re doing?" Gao Yu fiercely released the woman’s arm and stepped forward to wrap his arms around Ji Wanwan’s waist.
Song Xin, seeing the couple teaming up against her, turned beet-red with anger.
"Ms. Song, my banquet does not tolerate your tantrums," Ji Wanwan glared at the woman soaked in red wine before issuing a dismissal in front of everyone.
"Someone, show her out."
Finally having let off steam for Jiang An, Ji Wan picked up a moment to call the girl who had already left the scene, and upon learning that she had safely arrived home, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Jiang An, don’t mind that awful bitch. Your brother and I have already taught her a good lesson just now; let’s see if she dares..." Knowing the distress Jiang An was under from the events of the evening, the woman began comforting Jiang An.
Before she could finish, Jiang An interrupted in a feeble voice from the other end, "Sister-in-law, I am a bit tired and want to go to sleep first."
Detecting the weariness in Jiang An’s tone, Ji Wanwan quickly dropped the topic, "Alright, you get some rest."
Jiang An murmured an acknowledgment before hanging up, turned her head without even showering, changed into pajamas, and lay down in bed.
She was truly exhausted, too tired to even recall everything that happened tonight.
