Chapter 143 We Are More Than Just University Classmates

At noon, a week had gone by, and Song Xin had just completed her first surgery in City Hospital. Although it was just a small tumor in the patient’s chest, Song Xin, always meticulous, still explained a whole bunch of post-operative precautions to the patient’s family at the entrance of the operating room.

Several nurses followed her and reported the recent situations of patients she had handled. The group fluttered through the corridors, and right ahead, they bumped into Gao Chuan, who was rushing over to prepare for an afternoon surgery. Song Xin saw the man lifting his foot and walking over, quickened her pace to meet him, and without any courtesy, slapped the man’s shoulder with the folder in her hand, proudly saying, "How was it? Victory in the first battle."

Gao Chuan, looking at Song Xin’s sudden move, had to stop walking and listen to her delighted words, knowing she was talking about the surgery in the morning.

Although Song Xin was known for her temperamental pride, the two of them had graduated from the same master’s program at University A, and he understood her professional strength well, or else she wouldn’t have been so easily admitted.

"Congratulations," the man replied formulaically, his eyes showing no particular emotion.

Song Xin, proud, blinked at the man, and the two nurses standing behind them exchanged glances, witnessing their familiar interaction.

In fact, ever since Song Xin arrived at the department, rumors had already spread. Seeing the two often eat together in the cafeteria inevitably started gossip. Now that they witnessed such natural interaction between them, it probably confirmed those groundless rumors.

"Do you have time this weekend?" Song Xin seemed to have completely ignored the two people behind her, only talking to Gao Chuan in front of her.

The man, in a white suit with a pristine deep blue tie, was as elegant as ever, indescribably refined.

Before Gao Chuan could answer, Song Xin quickly interjected, "Hey, you haven’t forgotten what day Saturday is, right?"

Her words carried a slight reproach, as if Gao Chuan not remembering would be a great transgression.

The man still stood there, his expression unchanged despite Song Xin’s questioning.

He remembered; Saturday was Song Xin’s birthday.

Song Xin didn’t bother playing coy and didn’t seem to want to give him a chance to refuse, "I don’t care, I’ve already told you in advance, remember to come."

Song Xin was indeed the pampered princess of the Song Family, and every birthday was celebrated with a party, inviting close friends as their circles mostly overlap.

Although Gao Chuan was weary of socializing, he attended every year.

After all, he didn’t have many friends.

"I’ll see," Gao Chuan didn’t directly agree, wondering if there might be an emergency at the hospital then.

Seeing the man finally loosen up, Song Xin’s eyes curved in a smile, knowing Gao Chuan well and thinking that his response meant he would likely come, she felt instantly joyous.

When they finally ended the conversation, the two parted ways, and the nurses couldn’t help but turn back to watch Gao Chuan slowly walking away, admitting to themselves that Song Xin and Dr. Gao really seemed well-suited.

A match of both talent and beauty, perhaps only Dr. Song could be a match for Dr. Gao, they whispered, suddenly interrupted by Song Xin turning around hearing their hesitating voices, her gaze turning cold as she asked what they were muttering about.

"Nothing, just that Dr. Song and Dr. Gao seem to have a very good relationship. We usually don’t get much chance to talk to Dr. Gao in the department," one nurse said softly under Song Xin’s steady gaze.

The fact was indeed true; having been in the same department with Dr. Gao for a long time, they felt the man was always aloof, emitting an aura that kept strangers at bay, typically only conversing during work-related discussions.

Song Xin couldn’t help but laugh upon hearing that, her face bright and charming.

That description certainly fits Gao Chuan himself.

"He’s just like that, not fond of talking." Song Xin said. Having grown up with Gao Chuan since childhood, she naturally knew the man’s reticent nature.

"Dr. Song knows Dr. Gao so well!" A nearby nurse couldn’t help but exclaim.

These past two days, they had seen Song Xin and Gao Chuan coming and going together, and they had privately started spreading rumors about the two.

A layer of joy appeared in Song Xin’s eyes, noticing the envious gaze the nurse cast her way, she said naturally, "Of course, we’re not just university classmates."

The nurse seemed to understand her implication, and in a trance, she watched as Song Xin handed over the report and left with long strides.

"It’s over, those two are probably involved already." The nurse stared blankly at Song Xin’s departing figure, concluding from the meaningful tone Song Xin just used, clearly telling them about her relationship with Dr. Gao.

"Ah, I’m heartbroken." Another nurse lamented upon hearing this.

She originally wanted to quietly be a little fan of Dr. Gao, but suddenly hearing that Dr. Gao might be in a relationship, the nurse’s mentality started to crumble.

"Give it a rest already, it’s not like it’s your turn anyway." Someone teased her while watching her look dejected.

"Hahahaha."

"But the two of them do match well, maybe they liked each other back in university."

"Ah, indeed all the top students end up together..."

After boasting to the nurse, Song Xin walked into the office intending to grab a cup and go to the break room for some water, still immersed in the joyful atmosphere and humming a song as she entered the break room, only then noticing Dr. Bai standing inside.

Thinking about the confrontation with the man in the underground parking lot from a few days back, she immediately silenced herself, feeling no good impressions about him, nevertheless, the man heard her tune and struck up a conversation as she came in, "Dr. Song seems in a good mood today."

If you dislike someone, everything they say seems sarcastic. Song Xin didn’t bother to respond and just walked past the man to the water dispenser to get some water.

Dr. Bai watched as she completely ignored him and helplessly raised an eyebrow, thinking this woman really holds a grudge.

"Lao Gao knows you’re going around spreading stories in front of the young girls?" The man asked, stopping in his tracks, as he listened to the rushing water sound from behind.

Song Xin’s gaze still on the flowing water, heard the man’s question, and felt irritated, "You, why do you always like to eavesdrop on other people’s conversations."

Her gaze turned to the man behind her, noticing his tall stature; she had to look up at him, her round eyes flashing with anger.

"Hey, you think I want to listen? You were just around the corner, who asked you to talk so loudly." The man also spoke irritably, feeling somewhat morose inside.

There’s no enmity between them, so why do they always end up arguing every time they meet.

Quite strange.
