Chapter 142 You Won’t Get Out of Bed Tomorrow
In the desolate and silent underground parking garage, Song Xin was stomping her feet in frustration when suddenly she heard a honk from behind, grating on her already frazzled nerves.
With a look of misery, she snapped back to reality only to see a car that had stopped behind her at some point. Dr. Bai was sitting in the driver’s seat, mercilessly pressing the horn. As he caught sight of Song Xin turning around, he reached out from the car and greeted her with a trace of mockery in his voice, "Dr. Song, instead of stamping your feet here, you might as well drive and chase after them."
It took Song Xin several seconds to register Dr. Bai’s scornful ridicule, presumably having been seen by him while she was knocking on Gao Chuan’s car door. She frowned in dissatisfaction.
"Why the continuous horn? Didn’t your parents teach you any manners?" Since he wasn’t polite to her, there was no point in her pretending either. She confidently walked over and stood in front of his car, reprimanding him.
When the man heard her drop all pretense of the courteous facade she maintained at the hospital, he didn’t respond but silently stepped on the accelerator, and the car slowly started moving forward. Song Xin was startled and quickly dodged to the side.
"Are you fucking crazy, Bai?" Seeing that the man had stopped the car, Song Xin, having barely managed to steady herself, walked over to his car window and started cursing vehemently.
If she hadn’t dodged, would he have just run her over?
"You were blocking the way." Dr. Bai turned to look at Song Xin, whose hair was disheveled now, devoid of her usually graceful and dignified demeanor at the hospital. Having accomplished his intent to scare her, he honked the horn again in front of Song Xin. The "beep beep" startled Song Xin so much that she quickly covered her ears.
When she opened her eyes again, the man had already driven past her. Just as Song Xin was about to curse a few more times, her mobile phone in the pocket suddenly rang. She looked down and saw it was from Song Li. Remembering that Gao Chuan had called Song Li earlier, she pressed the answer button.
Song Li took everything at face value and immediately asked about her car. Song Xin didn’t rush to explain to the man but instead let out all the bottled-up grievances she had at the sound of Song Li’s voice, "Brother..."
Meanwhile, Gao Chuan, having finished dinner with Jiang An outside, returned home together. All the way, Gao Chuan noticed that the girl did not bring up the matter between him and Song Xin. The atmosphere was as usual, making him think he was overthinking.
When Jiang An got home, she took a bath and immediately went into the study to catch up on the reference materials Song Xin had provided during the day. Busy in the study, she lost track of time until it was eleven o’clock at night.
At night, under a sky where the moon shone and stars were sparse, the cold moonlight bathed the earth.
After completing his evening workout and taking a shower, Gao Chuan returned to his bedroom and found that Jiang An had not come yet. He proceeded straight to the kitchen.
Jiang An was still buried in a mound of documents, holding a notebook and watching videos of surgeries, when a fresh mint fragrance suddenly wafted in. Lifting her head, she indeed saw Dr. Gao’s towering figure already hovering behind her.
The man’s cold gaze fell on her computer screen, and he asked softly, "Not done yet?"
Jiang An came to her senses and shook her head, speaking with a worried look, "Not yet, Dr. Gao, you go to sleep first."
Hearing this, Gao Chuan remained standing behind Jiang An without moving, quietly watching her engrossed in writing, and silently observed for a while, realizing she was indeed very busy.
"Is this what Song Xin asked you to look at?" Gao Chuan leaned slightly to pick up a stack of documents Jiang An had just printed, which contained papers published by Song Xin. He glanced at the content and couldn’t help but speculate.
Jiang An touched her head and replied, "Yes, Dr. Song said it would help with my thesis."
Gao Chuan looked down at the documents piled up on Jiang An’s desk, black text crowding the white paper. It was to be seen when she would be done with all of that.
"Dr. Gao, were you and Dr. Song in the same class at A University?" Jiang An asked with her mouth, but her eyes remained on the documents in her hands.
Standing behind her, Gao Chuan’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing this. So she still misunderstood?
"Mm," Gao Chuan set down the documents in his hands, pondering how to organize his words to tell Jiang An about some matters between him and Song Xin, when he heard Jiang An suddenly have a realization and said, "Oh, that’s why Dr. Song’s name sounds familiar. Both you and Dr. Song were quite famous at A University. I’ve even seen her paper at Professor Chen’s before, and it was really well written."
The girl spoke word for word, her tone laced with a bit of admiration.
She had just searched for Song Xin on the university website and discovered that she was indeed remarkable. She had published papers in internationally recognized medical journals while still in school—a true academic overachiever who had studied abroad, Jiang An naturally thought.
Therefore, the materials Dr. Song had asked her to read warranted even more serious attention.
Listening to Jiang An’s praise for Song Xin, Gao Chuan’s expression remained unchanged. However, he did not expect Jiang An to have such an attitude towards Song Xin.
Not only was she not angry or jealous over the lunch incident, but she also praised Song Xin generously.
Could it be that his wife’s thinking really is different from others...
But this was also good. Since he and Song Xin were innocent and there were no misunderstandings with Jiang An, there was no need for him to explain anymore.
"Why don’t you search for me." As Gao Chuan listened to Jiang An’s praises for Song Xin, his gaze gradually softened and he suddenly suggested.
Following his instruction, Jiang An opened the university website and entered Gao Chuan’s name to search. A personal profile page immediately popped up, listing many of Gao Chuan’s achievements during his school days as well as accomplishments after graduation.
The man watched as Jiang An stared at the computer screen, her mouth hanging open in surprise, and couldn’t help but smile.
Jiang An counted the number of papers published by Gao Chuan and turned back with an adoring expression on her face, facing Gao Chuan behind her. She was so inarticulate for a moment that she didn’t know what to say, "Dr. Gao, you..."
"You’re so amazing." Amazing to the point that she couldn’t believe such a genius existed; no wonder he was promoted extraordinarily to the deputy director of the department at the City Hospital while still so young.
Wow, her husband is impressive.
Looking at Jiang An with stars in her eyes, Gao Chuan appeared calm, as if he had anticipated the outcome and was nonchalant about it, arching an eyebrow before directly closing the laptop Jiang An held in her arms. Without another word, he picked up Jiang An by the waist. The girl tried to break free, exclaiming, "Dr. Gao, what are you doing? I haven’t finished reading yet."
Gao Chuan ignored her, giving a cold command, "Look at it tomorrow."
"No, I’m not sleepy yet..." Jiang An struggled, kicking her feet but to no avail, as she was already carried by the man into the bedroom.
Gao Chuan, listening to the girl’s noisy voice by his ear, laid her on the bed and leaned over her, his gaze towards Jiang An gleaming with sharp menace as he threatened, "If you don’t sleep obediently now, I’ll make sure you can’t leave the bed tomorrow."
With the harsh words ringing in Jiang An’s ears, her face blushed, and she finally closed her mouth.
