Chapter 141 The Attitude Never Changed
Jiang An kept her head down, listening to Song Xin reminiscing about her college days with Dr. Gao, without interrupting, along with Dr. Bai beside her. The awkwardness among the four of them only intensified.
Not long after finishing her meal, Jiang An was the first to stand up and leave the dining table. Seeing this, Dr. Bai followed suit, quickening his pace to catch up with Jiang An, who was putting away her tray alone. The man was probably chasing after her so as not to make her feel too embarrassed.
After all, during the meal, Song Xin’s intentions were almost blatant enough to shoo them both away.
Noticing Dr. Bai following her, Jiang An saw a slight smirk on his lips as he smiled at her, asking, "Are you not upset?"
If she were Gao Chuan’s wife, seeing another woman getting so close to her man, she’d probably throw a punch by now.
Many in the department could also see Song Xin’s background, openly locking into an old classmate relationship with Deputy Director Gao the first chance she got. It meant two things: first, I’m backed by Deputy Director Gao; second, stay away from Deputy Director Gao.
As dull as Jiang An was, walking side by side with Dr. Bai, her face showed a puzzled expression upon hearing his words.
Dr. Bai, seeing a face full of question marks on Jiang An, curved his lips, his doubts about their marriage growing deeper.
He was indeed astonished that Gao Chuan would marry such a naive little bunny, who was truly innocent to a fault.
"It’s fine, let’s go up together." Since Jiang An wasn’t jealous over this, there was no need for him to clarify further, but he hoped that Gao Chuan would handle this situation well.
Now he had a fairly good idea after this meal; Song Xin’s transfer to City Hospital was very likely for Gao Chuan.
Quite interesting, the man thought to himself.
After the two left, only Song Xin and Gao Chuan remained. As the girl left with her tray, Gao Chuan couldn’t help but look up at her, unable to make out her expression.
"Didn’t expect someone would actually dine with a wallflower like you, they aren’t frightened of stifling." As the two departed, Song Xin took a sip of the juice by her hand, mercilessly mocking.
Gao Chuan’s chiseled face remained expressionless as he silently ate, contemplating about Jiang An in his mind.
He didn’t want Jiang An to misunderstand.
"Hey, I finally came back, don’t you have anything to say to me?" Song Xin looked at the stoic man, a surge of emotion pressing within her.
During the lengthy six years, she had always been waiting for him to reach out to her, even just once.
After that incident, she could indeed sense Gao Chuan’s anger towards her, but at that time, she was powerless, never expecting such an outcome.
To avoid bothering him, she went abroad and hid for six years. After so much time, they should have cleared the air by now.
"No." A few seconds later, the man answered bluntly.
The past was the past, complicated as it was, but now was different, because he was married.
His heart could only harbor Little Ostrich.
Song Xin’s eyes visibly dimmed upon hearing his words, her food suddenly became tasteless in her mouth. When she looked up, she saw Gao Chuan rising from his chair, looking down at her authoritatively as he said, "Song Xin, I hope you came here genuinely wanting to work well, stop playing those useless little tricks. My attitude towards you has never changed from the past to the present."
The man’s icy words fell from above, definitive as they had always been.
By the time she watched Gao Chuan’s retreating figure fade into the distance, Song Xin suddenly let out a cold laugh, a faint layer of dejection clouding her starry eyes.
He probably didn’t even know, after all these years, that moment she entered the ward to see him, seeing him again after six years, she almost cried.
She had thought her affection would fade over time, yet in that moment, it flared back to life.
If she liked him so much, how could she let go easily?
After all, facing challenges was what Song Xin loved to do most.
It was half an hour later that Song Xin returned, finding Jiang An still bent over her medical records. She hadn’t expected this young girl to be so studious. Taking a cup of water, she approached the girl, chatting casually about the teaching methods of Dr. Li in the past.
After all, she had no experience guiding interns and she didn’t want to lead someone astray.
Jiang An replied earnestly. Song Xin leaned on the desk next to her, nodding constantly while listening to the girl’s answers. Upon learning they were about to undergo an assessment, she gave some advice and pushed some materials towards Jiang An.
"Are you and Dr. Gao close?" The woman watched as Jiang An took meticulous notes of what she said, suddenly asking.
Hearing this, Jiang An’s heart skipped a beat, her pen nearly falling from her grasp. Eager not to arouse Song Xin’s suspicion about their relationship, she quickly denied, "No, I’m not close to him."
Song Xin detected the girl’s slightly panicked expression upon hearing her question, nonchalantly took a sip from her cup, assuming they had merely bumped into each other for a meal.
"Okay, continue," Song Xin concluded, then returned to her desk to prepare for the afternoon clinic.
City Hospital is a public hospital, naturally it couldn’t compare with her experience abroad. There were plenty of appointments in the afternoon, and it was time to leave when she finished.
Stretching her body, Song Xin got up to leave the office to head home. Just as she stepped outside, she saw Gao Chuan entering the elevator. Remembering the scene she saw Gao Chuan in the parking lot the day before, she hastened to pack her things and followed him.
No sooner had Gao Chuan settled into the driver’s seat than someone came to knock on the car window. The man slowly rolled down the window, seeing Song Xin, now in casual attire, bending down in front of him, "Dr. Gao, could I catch a ride with you?"
A shadow crossed the man’s face, he didn’t open the car door, furrowing his brow he asked, "Where’s your car?"
"It’s broken, can’t drive," Song Xin felt relieved that she parked her car far from Gao Chuan today; he likely wouldn’t see through her lie.
Gao Chuan looked at the cunning look on the woman’s face, remained silent but took out his phone to make a call. Song Xin, seeing this, blurted out, "What are you doing?"
"Having your brother pick you up, I have to go, I’m busy." Gao Chuan had already dialed Song Li’s number and coldly informed Song Xin while looking up at her.
Whether Song Xin lied or not, he could have driven her home, but not now, Jiang An was still waiting for him.
Watching Gao Chuan talking to Song Li on the phone about picking her up, Song Xin felt increasingly frustrated, stomping her foot until she saw Gao Chuan drive past, vigorously swinging her bag in her hand.
What the heck!
