Chapter 360: Chapter 360 Something was off

Assistant Quinn’s throat tightened. His heart dropped to his stomach as he stared at the screen lighting up on her phone.

Ring...

Ring...

"He’s not picking up," Lilith said, her voice cold, eyes unreadable.

"Oh—Miss Lilith! Don’t worry," Quinn said quickly, forcing a smile of relief. "He must be very busy with a meeting or... or something important..."

He chuckled nervously and added, "Why don’t you give me those documents? You can send me digital copies too, I’ll make sure Sir signs them as soon as he’s free."

Lilith stared at him for a second longer before nodding. "Alright."

Without another word, she walked back to her desk.

But her mind was far from calm.

Something was off.

Very off.

And her Human doll who never ignored her calls before was now suddenly unreachable?

Something was terribly wrong.

Lunch hour.

The office buzzed faintly with chatter, but many eyes couldn’t help but shift toward Lilith, seated at her old desk like nothing had changed. Some watched her with awe. Others with jealousy.

Then suddenly—

"Lili!"

Two bodies ran toward her.

Ava and Nova tackled her with a tight hug from both sides, squishing her between them.

"That’s enough," Lilith muttered, pretending to be annoyed, though her voice lacked its usual sharpness. "I can’t breathe."

"Hmph! You didn’t even miss us!" Ava huffed, sniffling as she clung to Lilith. "Just because you were busy doesn’t mean we forgot you."

Lilith looked at them quietly for a moment. Her sharp expression softened.

Nova nodded seriously beside Ava. "You barely called. We thought you forgot us..."

Lilith sighed. Her voice gentled as a small, rare smile touched her lips.

"I’m sorry... I missed you two," she said sincerely.

Ava blinked, then smiled through her pout. Nova let out a soft breath, almost like he’d been waiting to hear that.

"Let’s go have lunch together like old times!" Ava said with a big grin, dragging Lilith along. Nova followed behind with a quiet smile.

They entered the canteen, grabbed their plates, and found a seat by the window. It felt a little like the old days.

But Ava kept glancing at Lilith’s face. She poked her arm with a spoon.

"What’s wrong with you?" she asked, frowning. "You look totally lost. Is it because boss isn’t here?" she teased, wiggling her eyebrows.

Lilith didn’t smile.

"Yes," she said seriously, "I called him, but he didn’t answer. I feel like something’s wrong..." her voice dropped as she looked down at her plate. "I don’t know why, but it feels... off."

Nova and Ava both paused mid-bite and looked at each other.

"What? Seriously?" they said together.

Lilith nodded, and this time, she shared everything. About How Assistant Quinn acted so nervous. And how her calls kept going unanswered.

Ava’s eyes narrowed like she was turning into a detective.

"That shady Assistant Quinn!" she huffed. "He’s hiding something for sure!"

Lilith stayed quiet, lost in thought.

"Don’t worry," Ava said, puffing her chest proudly, "we’ll help you figure this out!"

"Yeah yeah..." Nova nodded, a little nervous but determined.

"I think..." Ava leaned closer, voice lowering with excitement, "we should follow Assistant Quinn. Maybe we’ll find out what he’s hiding!"

Lilith blinked. Then she actually smiled.

"...Alright," she said. "Let’s do that."

Nova sighed and shook his head, already regretting this adventure. But it was too late.

Operation Catch the Secret had begun.

"So after office hours, we’ll follow him secretly... to see where he’s going!" Ava whispered like a spy, her eyes gleaming with excitement.

Lilith leaned back in her chair, a small smile playing on her lips. "Hmm... interesting," she said softly, swirling her spoon in her soup.

Nova, already regretting his life choices, let out a long sigh. "You two are crazy."

Ava smacked his arm. "No, we’re geniuses."

Lilith didn’t say much, but inside, she agreed. Something felt off and if Quinn was hiding something about him, she wanted to know.

And if her instincts were right...

"Hey, I saw Assistant Quinn sit in his car," Nova whispered over the phone, hiding behind a pillar near the parking lot.

Lilith, already in her own car a short distance away, tapped her fingers on the steering wheel. "Alright. Stay with him. I’m almost there."

Lilith pressed on the brake gently, pulling her car beside him. Nova slipped into the backseat quickly, while Ava, already seated in the passenger seat, turned around with a grin.

"He just left. I saw him driving toward the west gate," Nova said as he closed the door behind him.

"Alright, we’ll follow," Lilith said calmly, her eyes fixed on the car ahead. She pressed her foot on the accelerator lightly and began trailing Quinn’s car at a safe distance.

Ava leaned forward, peering through the windshield. "What do you think he’s hiding about the boss? Maybe something serious?" she asked, her tone full of suspicion and excitement.

"I don’t know," Nova replied honestly, shifting in his seat to get a better look.

Ava immediately twisted in her seat and smacked Nova’s arm without holding back. "You never know anything!" she whispered harshly, her expression full of exaggerated frustration.

"Hey! Ouch!" Nova pouted, rubbing his arm. "I’m trying my best here!"

"Behave," Lilith said, her voice cool but sharp enough to quiet both of them down in an instant. Her hands tightened on the steering wheel as they turned into a quieter road. Her gaze didn’t move from the car in front.

The city lights slowly faded as they followed Quinn deeper into unfamiliar streets. Every now and then, Quinn’s car turned a corner, and Lilith matched his speed without hesitation.

Soon, Assistant Quinn parked his car near a tall, dull-looking building. The area around it wasn’t busy—just a narrow road, a few dim streetlights, and closed shops lined up like they hadn’t been touched for days.

Lilith slowed her car down and stopped at a safe distance, pulling up behind a dusty black van. The three of them leaned forward in silence, watching.

Quinn stepped out of his car, nervously glancing around as if making sure no one had followed him. He fixed his tie, then quickly walked inside the building without looking back.

"Huh? Does he live here?" Ava asked, furrowing her brows and resting her chin on the edge of the window, trying to get a better view.
