Destroy My Life In You -
Chapter 68: His First Mate
Chapter 68: His First Mate
The sun was high in the sky when Ravenna stirred up. After a while of fighting off the drowsiness, then did she notice that Alaric was not in the room. If it were not for the comfy lounge, she would have thought that all that had happened was nothing but a dream.
She got off the bed and was about to head to the bathroom when she noticed a note on the bedside table. It was boldly written, ’I’LL BE RIGHT BACK, SO DON’T THINK OF FLEEING AGAIN.’
Ravenna reread the note for a few minutes and then started giggling to herself. "Did I tramuatize by running away? Hehe... I should do that often if he makes me angry in the future."
She headed to the bathroom, smiling widely. What a beautiful way to begin a day!
A few minutes later, Alaric came back. Behind him was another man pushing a room service cart, a luxurious spread of breakfast delights on it. He was instantly dismissed before her could even move a step into the room.
Alaric pushed the cart to the dining area, with a smile as he listened to the awfully unbearably noisy singing echoing from the bathroom.
"Noisy as ever," he murmured to himself, smiling warmly.
Just as he was about to head over to the bathroom, the door opened. Her head poked out fast, staring at his direction, precisely at the feast before her.
"Is that for me?" She asked and walked out with just a towel, water dripping on her hair dripping on the floor.
"Hmm," Alaric hummed in reply.
Ravenna adjusted her loose towel and was about to sit down when she felt a rush of air. Before she knew it, she was locked in Alaric’s arms.
"What are you doing?" She asked with a frown.
"Dry your hair and get dressed first before you eat, alright?" His voice was weirdly soft. She was used to his cold, commanding, and domineering way, so hearing him speak that way, she didn’t know how to oppose him.
It didn’t take long before she was done, though with a lot of questions. Did he realize he loved her and had decided to treat her the right? Or was it just the need to conquer her, so he wanted to use the easiest method? She wanted to ask out loud but was scared of the answer.
The excitement of the food was gone. She ate absentmindedly, which caught Alaric’s attention, who was sitting across her.
"Are you alright?"
Ravenna snapped back and hurriedly nodded, feigning a smile. "I’m fine. Where did you go this morning?"
It was not difficult for him to figure out she was trying to change the subject, but nevertheless, he let her be for the time being. "I went to see Finn."
"Finn? He’s here too?" Her eyes went dim when a certain memory flashed back.
"Yes." Alaric felt breathless, watching pain flash inbher eyes. He could guess what was going on. She had probably recalled that unfortunate day when they had all ganged up on her in the name of their so-called mission. If he knew it would break her so hard, then he would never have even about doing so. It was because of his low emotional quotient. He had never cared for someone for hell knows how long, and when he did so, he could not do it the right way. "Ven, will you teach me how to love you the correct way?"
Ravenna was caught off guard by his word and ended up choking on the milk she was having. "Wha... what?" She wiped the stains on her lips with a napkin, then attentively gazed at him to make sure she was not hearing her own things.
Alaric blinked clueless before replying, "I don’t want to... hurt you again, so will you teach me how to treat you the right way?"
Silence took over, and only the sound of their slow breathing could be heard. One was nervously waiting while the other was nervously happy. Happy that he wanted to give her heart to her and nervous that he was doing so out of pressure.
"Are you sure... you can love me?" She asked, uncertain.
Alaric fell into thought for a few seconds, then replied, "I didn’t say I don’t love you. I just want to do it the correct way. "I’m..." His voice went down, "... afraid I’ll let you down again."
Ravenna did not react and rather just stared at him blankly. He just... confessed he loved? He also loved her!
Alaric misunderstood her silence as anger. Maybe she had not entirely forgiven him. "I... Maybe I..." Words were stuck in his mouth.
Ravenna stood up silently without a word and walked around the table. She held her the short, round, white dress, then sat on Alaric’s lap, precisely straddled him.
"Then let’s learn together how to love each other the right way."
Alaric froze for a second before nodding in agreement. He smiled his white teeth brimming as well as his eyes, then pulled Ravenna into a gentle hug.
"Let’s do it," he whispered into her ear, biting it lightly, then buried his face on her neck.
They stayed like that for a whole five minutes before letting go of each other. Ravenna was about to stand up, but Alaric held her in place.
"There’s something else I should tell you," his tone changed into a serious one, but the warmth in his eyes never disappeared.
Ravenna nodded, and he continued, "The person who was behind the whole ordeal that happened back at home, we still haven’t got him. Finn just told me Luke found a new lead so we’ve got to go back as soon as possible."
Ravenna was surprised because all this time, she thought Jareth was behind everything, but it seemed he was just working for someone else. "Do you know who the person is?"
"No, but I do know the two witches who are working for him. You also met them in the hospital the day you regained your memory," Alaric explained without hiding anything from her.
Ravenna recalled, though the face of the man was a bit vague because she had not paid attention to him that much. "I do remember he had something against you. He said that you killed your mate... and he also happened to love her. That’s why he’s after you."
Alaric listened attentively, without a reaction. "I don’t remember ever having a love rival over Astrid." He silently murmured.
"Astrid?" Ravenna asked, her heart leaping heavily.
Alaric gazed at her for a moment then said, "Hmm. She was my first... mate."
