Destroy My Life In You -
Chapter 67: His Promise to Her
Chapter 67: His Promise to Her
Ravenna suspiciously eyed Alaric as he closed the distance between them. Her hand instinctively went up and blocked him from kissing.
"What do you think you are doing?" She thought he would be fuming, maybe scold her, punish in all the he could, but this was the first thing he wanted to do?
"What does it look like?" Alaric held her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles, then tried to kiss her, but she avoided it.
"I don’t think we’ve any kind of relation that gives you the right to do so." She had broken off everything with him and even rejected him as her mate, but it seemed what she felt for him never faded away.
Alaric traced his other hand on her cheek, his lips rising up to for a subtle smirk, "It’s you who left. I never broke up with you."
Ravenna swallowed as fragments of those painful days revisited her mind. Her eyes fluttered for a moment, but she composed herself quickly.
"Then you should do it now," She said, her eyes looking away from him. She still had not forgiven him for what he did to her. Using her for whatever it was, it did hurt her, leaving her wondering if he even cared for her. For fuck sake those were not ordinary people but goddamn vampires, and he made her a bait just so he could get to their leader.
Alaric sighed and sat down beside her. "Are you still mad at me?" He held her cheek turning her face to look at him, but her eyes fell on her thighs, unwilling to face him. She was afraid to be rendered helpless in front of him.
"Should I be?" Ravenna questioned. "It would be of no use even if I am." A bitter smirk crept on her face, before she finally gazed at him with a blank look.
Alaric went silent for a while, then said, "You can punish me if it soothes your rage. Just... don’t walk away again."
The offer sounded too tempting, but she shook her head. "I dared not do so to Your Highness."
"I’m no King of yours, so don’t call me that," Alaric informed, his voice neither angry nor pleased.
"Yeah, you are right. I’m not a vampire, after all."
Alaric gazed at her with rare warmth before he pulled her into his arms. "Do you know how madly I’ve missed you?"
Ravenna wanted to pull away, but his words made her freeze, and for a moment, she just wanted to embrace him back.
Alaric continued, "I almost went insane when I realized you had disappeared. I was furious that I had decided I would lock you up in my room if I found you. But as time passed, I calmed down and knew what I did to you... was not right. You had all the rights to be angry. I looked for you all over so I could say that... I’m sorry for being a jerk and hurting your feelings."
Ravenna shivered under his arms, but at the same time, her heart felt the lost warmth creep back gradually. "I was hurt."
"I’m sorry," Alaric apologised again, knowing she was relenting and giving in to him.
"You choked me until I passed out."
"I’m sorry for that too."
"You even kissed... Nyx," her voice went down, and she pulled from his embrace slowly.
"I regret everything I did. Please forgive me. Alright?" Alaric had never apologised this much to anyone in his life, but for her, he was willing to do so. If it meant for her to come back to him, then he would do it without tiring. She was all he wanted. Even if he couldn’t say it loud, only he knew how much she meant to him.
"Okay, but I have one question," Ravenna fidgeted nervously.
"What is it?"
"Did you really... kill... Jaxon?" There was worry as well as expectation in her eyes.
Alaric chuckled at the funny look on her face. "If I tell you I didn’t, will you believe me?"
Ravenna nodded instantly without a doubt.
Alaric smiled lightly and cupped her cheek. "Though I so much wanted to do it, I didn’t kill him."
"Then... I trust you," Ravenna replied, her cheeks flushing red, as she stared into his eyes.
A peaceful silence reigned between as their gazes spoke of their unsaid feelings. It felt unreal that they were in each other’s arms after a long time of being apart, especially to Alaric, who was overwhelmed by her disappearance. He had grown attached so deeply that even thinking of a moment away from her was torture to him. And from then on, he made a silent vow to her and to himself. Never to hurt her again. Never to let her disappear from his life.
"So, you’ve forgiven me?" He needed assurance.
Ravenna bit her lip and nodded. "Yes."
"Then... can I hug you?" His voice held a rare warmth.
She consented with a nod again. Alaric went ahead to embrace her, but she stopped him by placing her hand on his chest. "If you hurt me again, I’ll leave, and you’ll never see me again. You’ve to tell me everything, especially if it will cause any problems between us. Also, no matter what, make sure no... other woman touches you. It’s not like I’m jealous or possessive, I just don’t like. If you can’t do that, then it’s better if we don’t..."
A pair of soft and cold lips stopped her from saying any more. "I’ll do as you say." Alaric murmured over lips then continued devouring her lips, pouring all the kept emotions into it. He wanted her to know that he only belonged to her since she came into his life.
What started as a passionate kiss led one thing to another. Moans of pleasure filled as two longing hearts got entwined again. It was not just pleasure, but a union between two destined souls. It was almost dawn when they fell asleep in each other’s arms, with hope of a better tomorrow.
