Destroy My Life In You -
Chapter 56: Conspiracy 1
Chapter 56: Conspiracy 1
Ravenna’s effort to pull away from Jaxon went in vain. Her body was starting to feel weak, as if something was draining her strength slowly. Her once clear mind became hazy, and all she could hear was someone calling out her name. Nevertheless, she still loathed the touch of another man and tried to push him away with her remaining strength.
"Ala...ric." That was all she could say, her voice drifting away.
In no time, Ravenna lost consciousness falling into Jaxon’s arms.
"Venna," he whispered, tapping on Ravenna’s cheek softly.
"Let her be," another voice added, surprising Jaxon. "She won’t wake up until the next five to six hours."
Jaxon sighed, glancing at the standing in front of him. Behind him were two ladies covered in dark veils. The same people who had once paid a visit to Ravenna in the hospital and helped regain her lost memories.
"What have you done to her?" Jaxon enquired hospital voice not so friendly. "You said you would assist in eliminating the vampire who has hypnotised her into thinking she is his mate. What is this now?"
The man smirked and silently, took Ravenna from Jaxon’s arms, carrying her towards the small sofa in the room. After making sure she was in a better position, he shifted to Jaxon.
"And I’m doing so." His smirk grew wider while his eyes were glaring, all turned red.
Jaxon shot back a glare but did not make any haste move. He was alone, and the man had two witches by his side. "How is bringing her here going to help? You should render the vampire unconscious, not her."
"You are too impatient, and that’s going to cost you heavily. What’s the rush for?" The man’s hysterical laughter echoed annoying Jaxon greatily.
"Mr. Liam, I don’t have much time," Jaxon informed, gritting his teeth in anger. "I can take Ravenna away if I wish to, only that I’m not one to go back on my word. So, I give you two days to finish what you are planning before my patience runs out."
Liam, the man with the two witches, froze in place, his smile fading away the instant he heard ’take Ravenna away’. As if something evil took over him, he launched at Jaxon at a fast speed, grabbing his neck roughly.
"How dare you!" His voice was low but carried a strong weight of killing aura.
Jaxon tried to shift, but something was stopping him. He felt pain, a lot of it. In a way that if he continued to resist, his bones were going to crash, leaving him lifeless.
"Let go... of me," he spoke hoarsely, his voice barely audible.
Liam pulled him closer to him and then whispered to his face, "As you wish."
With one strong throw, Jaxon flew to the wall, making a long crack. An agonising groan left his mouth, feeling pain like never before. Not anyone could hurt a werewolf that terribly to the point of being unable to shift. This man was not one to mess with. He was more than he portrayed. It was better to play safe until he found a way to get himself out of the situation he had put himself into.
"Still want to defy me?" Liam moved forward unhurriedly, the sound of his steps alarming Jaxon.
Fortunately, he could feel his power had returned and could now shift, but he dared not do so. This was a battle he would not win.
"I know how to choose my fights," he replied, clenching his fist on the floor, in anger of being embarrassed like this.
"Good," Liam squatted in front of him before adding, "She goes nowhere until I say so."
"How long do I have to wait?"
Liam hummed briefly and then replied, "Not for all. I’m also tired of waiting." Casting Jaxon a glance filled with warning, he stood and dusted off his suit. "Until she wakes up, don’t leave this place."
Jaxon understood he was talking about Ravenna, who was still unconscious. "I thought you were taking her with you." A frown formed between his brows confused by Liam’s actions.
"Just follow instructions," Jaxon side glanced at Ravenna, and for a moment, his eyes softened with an unknown emotion. "This time, she will come to me, willingly."
The man turned to the two ladies who were silently standing beside Ravenna and gave them a nod. In a snap, the three of them disappeared into thin air.
****************
Another two days went, and Alaric was yet to come back. I had tried countless to reach him by phone, but he was not available, which made my anxiety grow with each passi g. The so-called business trip was supposed to last a day, but now, a whole three days had passed.
I had tried to question Zeke several times, but he also said that he couldn’t reach him. Strangely, Finna and Zander were also nowhere to be found.
"Zeke! Zeke!" I called out anxiously, walking inside the house. I had just come back from the boring office.
"What is it now?" As usual, his reply came from the kitchen.
"Has he returned?"
"No," came his abrupt answer, cutting my heart to pieces.
Pacing back and forth, I had to think of a way to get in contact with Alaric before anything happened. I had so much to tell him, and this waiting was killing me slowly.
I glanced at the kitchen as an idea popped up in my mind. Standing on the door, I observed as Zeke ’cooking’ or rather fighting the utensils.
"What a loser." I chuckled silently only to receive a glare from him.
"Are you any better? Loser."
I shook my head, brushing off his words. I wasn’t in the mood to argue, let alone cprte with him.
"I know you are aware where he is," I keenly observed his after reaction and suspected, he froze, which cleared my doubts. "Once you get in touch, to tell him to call me or better come back or else I am going to burn down this place and run away with another man."
With that, I walked away to my room, feeling a heavy weight lifted off my shoulders, though the anxiety was still there. I only hoped Jaxon and his aider would not get to him before I did and harm him.
I headed to the lift and pressed the last floor, which was where Alaric’s room was located and where I had been sleeping since he left. His scent all over the room magically calmed my nerves whenever I seemed to have lost control after waking from countless and horrifying nightmares. I was already getting used to them, especially the one Alaric would gouge out my heart. It occurred whenever I would close my eyes, even if I was not in deep sleep. More like a vision or a forgotten memory.
