Destroy My Life In You
Chapter 55: Ashen Sisters

Chapter 55: Ashen Sisters

A day had passed since Alaric left for a business trip. Being his ’personal assistant’, I was supposed to accompany him, but for some reason, he said it wasn’t a must for me to go. Considering the way he had been acting possessive and would not let me stay a second away from him, I suspected the matter was serious and confidential. Though I felt a little left out, I knew I had a long way to go to fully earn Alaric trust. After all, he was the vampire king.

I sighed thoughtfully. I was yet to digest the fact that I had been mated to the vampire king, a man who was supposed to be my first enemy, but now, here I was; so madly in love with him. My only hope every day was to never make a mistake that would ruin what we had. I didn’t want to lose.

A phone call brought me back, and I jolted from the bed rapidly, thinking maybe it was Alaric. To my disappointment, it was an unknown number.

"Hello?" I spoke after a moment of consideration.

The other person did not reply immediately until after some seconds. "Venna."

I frowned but then froze, realising who it was. "How... did you get my contact information?"

"I need to see you, please. Meet me at... Serena Restaurant." The other person informed.

"I believe I already made myself clear, Jaxon. There’s nothing left to..."

"The Alpha sent me here for you," the caller, Jaxon, spoke up hurriedly, his voice on the phone loud and clear.

The frown on my face deepened to his words. The Alpha? My father asked for me? The only word ringing in my head was impossible.

"It’s not true," I didn’t realize my voice had turned low. I was a bit shaken, but the memories of the day I was ousted never left my mind.

"Believe it or not, it’s true. He has been trying to find you ever since you left the pack."

"Left? Isn’t that too modest? Why does he even want me, his weak, powerless daughter, back?" I asked coldly, masking my anger that was riling up.

"I’ll tell you everything once you come."

I would never fall for that, and so, "I’m not coming." Was my final answer. But it was until I heard his next statement.

"Even if I tell you your mate is planning to annihilate our pack?" I went numb and did not say a word. "I know who he is, Venna. Alaric Nightveil, the infamous Vampire King. He has already killed one of us and is planning to do the same to us."

I was still silent, wondering how Jaxon came to know about Alaric’s identity. From what I knew, no one in the pack had ever had an encounter with him. He was a legend, and Jaxon, being able to know about him, someone had surely told him. Only a few people in the city knew who he was, and they would never betray him. Then, a person’s image appeared in my mind. The man from the hospital whose name I didn’t even know. He was the one who had told me about Alaric’s identity and could have also done the same since he seemed to hold a deep-rooted grudge against Alaric. I needed to get to the bottom of this. If it meant fighting against everyone to protect my mate, I wouldn’t think twice about doing it.

"Are you there? Venna? Hey...:

"Half an hour. I’ll be there." I rushed to the bathroom fire blazing in my eyes. Not under my nose would let anyone conspire against Alaric. Never.

***************

Alaric sat poised on his throne, his presence comanding. His dark suit clung to his form as he leaned back, his eyes glowing faintly with power.

Just like him, the throne room felt both dark and elegant, with walls of black marbles streaked with red, while the throne itself was made of smooth black stone, rising a platform at the centre of the room. Behind it, a large window of dark glass let in a faint, blood-red light.

Finn and Zander stood in front of Alaric motionless, each lost in thought. The matter had escalated, demanding their complete focus.

"Was it a must to return here?" Finn broke the silence, his face nothing near to his usual warmth.

Zander briefly glanced at him warningly before turning to Alaric. "I’m yet to find anything important."

Alaric had his eyes closed while leaving his head backward, silently listening to them. After some time, he finally spoke up.

"Where’s Nyx?"

Finn froze, recollecting he had been assigned to finding that woman, but until now, he was yet to track her whereabouts. She was one hell of a witch that could be found if she wanted to. He looked at Zander pleadingly, and just before he could say anything, a sudden calm wind blew inside the room.

"She’s here!" Finn shouted with all his might, knowing she had arrived.

"Yes, I’m here." A feminine voice echoed in the room as she walked in through the door, her small figure shadowed by the little light in the throne room.

Finn felt like bowing to her for the first, but he was too prideful to do that. Not to add, he never got along with her. She was his mortal enemy.

"Ten years aren’t over yet. Or is my calculation faulty?" Nux added, pushing herself in between Finn and Zander.

"It was urgent," Finn snorted, looking away annoyed, but his rapid heart said otherwise. It seemed nothing had changed. The sight of the woman still affected him a great deal.

"We had a deal," Nyx retorted, her eyes shifting to Alaric, who was still lying silently on the throne.

"I just need you to find someone, then you can leave," Alaric said, gradually opening his eyes that were already blazing red.

Nyx unblinkingly stared at Alaric for a few seconds, then nodded her head with a knowing chuckle. "Who is it?"

"The Ashen sisters."

The room went silent, all three individuals shocked by what Alaric had said, especially Nyx, who started trembling.

"Ashen sisters? But..."

"They are alive and conspiring against me with another person whose identity I want to find out." Alaric sat up looking at them, his eyes showing no emotion, unlike the three who were a bit taken aback.

"I... can’t... do it," Nyx said, her voice shaky. If not for Finn, who held her kn time, she would have already fallen down. "Not this time. I can’t do it."

"Still have compassion for you sisters?" Alaric lips rose in a not good way, and the next moment, Nyx was being pinned on the wall. Any more provocation and Alaric would snap her neck without a thought.

********************

"Will you start talking about what I want to hear? I’ve limited time, and you are already wasting it." It had already been ten minutes since I got to the goddamn restaurant, but all Jaxon did was try to convince to return with him, and it was annoying me a great deal. I hated the mention of that place, let alone thinking of returning.

"Is it because of the vampire? Of course, who else. I know he’s imprisoning you, which is also why I’m asking you to come back with me. He’s no good for you. Does he even know who you are? Have you even thought about what he will do to you once he comes to know you are an Alpha’s daughter? He will kill you without a second thought that you are his mate. It’s not like he knows about the fact you are his destined. He won’t show mercy. After all, he killed his first mate just because she was a werewolf. He won’t spare..."

I had had enough of his nonsense. Angrily, I rammed a hand against the table, and out of nowhere, a growl escaped my lips. I could feel my bones cracking as if something inside me was about to be unleashed. Luckily, Jaxon had booked a private dining suite.

"How do you know all of that?" I could already guess his spurce of information, but I wanted to be sure before informing Alaric.

Instead of answering, Jaxon stared at me in disbelief, his eyes blinking from time to time. "You... how is it possible? Your eyes... They are blue."

"What?" I barely heard what he said due to the rising emotion in me.

I saw him taking out his phone and scrolled for a moment before turning it towards me. And I saw it, my eyes glowing blue. It wasn’t bright nor too dark, as if they were reflecting the ocean in them.

"But... there are no werewolves with blue eyes. How is it possible?" I heard Jaxon faintly.

I was shocked, too. I have never heard anything of sort. Even the Alpha himself had golden eyes, let alone me, an outcast. I silently stood and marched towards the door but stopped.

"You didn’t answer my question, but I might already know who told you about Alaric. If you meet him, inform him I won’t stand by and let him hurt my mate." I opened the door but half way, my hand was grabbed and got pinned behind the door
