Chapter 45: Love And Evil Affairs

Ravenna took the stairs feeling dejected when she recalled Alaric’s reaction when she asked that question. She had thought he would get angry when she saw his eyes red and the fangs were already protruding, as if his beast was on loose.

Surprisingly, he walked away without a word, but Ravenna clearly saw the pain, hurt, and agony, mirrored in his eyes the last time he briefly glanced at her before he left her room without a word.

Just before she could reach down the stairs, she heard some people talking, more like arguing.

"Where is she? I don’t care what hole she crawled out from, but I’ll make her disappear for seducing my king. Where’s that woman?"

Though the voice was not clear, Ravenna could swear she had heard it before but was not sure where.

"Where have I heard that voice before?" She bit her lip, taking unhurried steps while still trying to figure out.

"Bro, she’s in her room. Probably plotting her plan of the day." That was Zeke. Ravenna could never mistake that loud, accusing voice. What she couldn’t understand was what or who they were talking about. "Alaric has taken a liking to her and does everything she says. She doesn’t let anyone get close to him because she’s afraid I’ll reveal her true character to Alaric. There’s nothing she hasn’t done in this mansion. Bullying me and our good big brother, Luke."

Ravenna narrowed her eyes, somehow getting some concepts of the topic. Zeke was complaining to someone about someone, and Ravenna just hoped it wasn’t her. All those words were lies Zeke was spouting, and one thing that irked her to the core is being accused falsely.

"You know that’s not true, Zeke. She’s not that bad as you portray her to be, " Luke interrupted.

Upstairs, Ravenna smiled with a blush hearing how Luke, her favourite cutie pie, was defending him. She remembered how he used to be aloof to her, and now he was defending her? That was cute!

Without further ado, Ravenna started rushing down the stairs, but before she could get to the last one, she missed her steps and slipped.

"Aaah!" Her loud scream caught everyone’s attention as she waited for the pain to come, but it never reached her.

Slowly, she opened one of her eyes, that were already closed, and a subtle smile formed on her lips when she saw Alaric holding her. His hand was wrapped around her waist while the other was tucked in his trousers.

From the look on his face, he seemed to have calmed down, though his eyes had gone blank as usual.

"Watch where you are going," There was a frown on his face as he helped her stand up straight.

A few steps behind them, Zeke was scoffing while his saviour brother tried to see over Alaric so he could catch a glimpse of the so-called seductress.

"You see that. She probably knew Alaric was around and made herself slip so he could catch her. Even now, she has not moved away from him. Am sure she is working on her plan to wrap him around her finger. If we don’t act now..."

"Can you stay quiet for a moment? I’m trying to focus here and am not sure why, but I seem to have seen that figure before."

"Really? Then it won’t be a problem getting rid of her if you have some dirt on her. Come on, tell me. Where did you see her?"

Zeke stood in front of his saviour brother grinning widely.

"Move away, I want to see this witch. Wait till I get my hands on her," the man said, glaring daggers at the small figure he couldn’t see.

Ravenna heard all their words and was really getting pissed off. Most especially with Zeke.

"Can I kill someone?" She whispered to Alaric, who was still holding her.

Alaric chuckled lightly, seeing the fire in her eyes that he didn’t know he had missed until then. "I can help you if you want."

The look in her eyes, she hadn’t changed at all when it came to his family. He knew her feelings were genuine and had decided to give her the benefit of doubt. Something inside him could never let him hurt her, and instead, he wanted to keep her safe from everyone. She was his to protect and love and would never allow anyone or anything to come in his way. As much as his love was sweet, it was obsessive and dangerous and would wipe away any junk that came on his way. Even if he wasn’t a slave to the mate bond, which was because of his vampire side, he still could not escape the feelings he bore for her.

"Don’t worry, I can handle a few brainless vampires."

Alaric smirked and raised her chin, staring at her intently. "They aren’t vampires. Zeke and his brothers are also wolves, just like you."

One, two, ten, and twenty seconds passed as Ravenna became stupefied with the new revelation. Then it occurred to her. The first time she had met Zeke, his eyes were golden rather than red, which meant what Alaric said was true. But weren’t vampires and werewolf enemies for centuries now? How was this possible; them living together?

"Stop thinking too much. The three are very old wolves. Maybe four centuries now. That was when I met them, a time when vampires and wolves weren’t very hostile to each other."

Ravenna took a long breath, processing the information. Now, it explained everything. Why Zeke got so pissed off when she called him a pup, but actually he was quite... very old.

Though she was shocked, imagining what a great great great grandfather Zeke was excited her. Now, she wanted to see him burn with fury as she teased him with that. He should have known better than to badmouth her behind her back.

"Hey, you witch. Are you doing your magic on Alaric? Let me tell you, I am here now, and I won’t let your evil plan succeed. You better leave on your own. I already have a perfect match for Alaric, and she’s the only one fit to be my sister-in-law." Zeke’s brother said in a deep warning voice.

"You never told me about that." Zeke complained with a frown when he heard about the ’perfect match’.

"Trust me, bro. My mentor is the only one fit to be my sister-in-law. I told you about her, right?"

Zeke nodded his head. "If you say so, then I’ll leave it to you." Smiling evilly, he turned towards Ravenna, feeling he had finally got the chance to teach the noisy woman a lesson.

"Why are you hiding behind, Ala... Rrrr... Raven!... Rrr... What are you doing here?" The man stammered in shock and fear when he saw the full view or Ravenna in her full glory.

Ravenna, though she was shocked as well, walked towards the man glaring at him. She had already discerned the voice of the person after he gave his monologue. She had experienced a series of revelations, and now discovering her long-awaited friend was a part of this family, she could handle it. She had met him in the camp and they became friends but she never thought he was connected to them. He only used to complain about his family who were mean to him, and one of them was superior in the camp, but she never thought it to be Zander.

"To kill you. You dare badmouth me behind my back with your old brother? You are supposed to be my ace, Seth. My minister of love and evil affairs, right?"

Seth, Zeke and Luke’s younger brother, stepped back, laughing nervously. "Raven... I didn’t..."

"Shut up!" Ravenna warned before turning to Zeke, who was standing in front of Seth. "And you old man, has your brain rotten to this extent? Aren’t you supposed to be advising people like me rather than arguing foolishly with your great great great-grandchildren? What a failure! Hmph!" Ravenna pushed him out of the way before she launched an attack on Seth, who was already on guard, and started running away shouting for help.

"Raven, I swear I didn’t know it was you."

"I don’t care!"

"Why are you even here?"

"To kill you!"

Alaric watched in awe at the two and shook his head, understanding why their behaviours were so alike. They probably knew each other very well.

There was nothing that could break his woman that easily. Surprisingly, she had recovered from all the emotional turmoil and was here about to murder people. She never failed to amaze him. One time, she becomes a hot pan, the other a cry baby, then a woman in love and sometimes a child. He just hoped nothing would cut short this moment of happiness.

If only he knew.
