Destroy My Life In You -
Chapter 46: Leave Him For Good
Chapter 46: Leave Him For Good
Days had gone by and nothing untoward happened. As each day passed, Alaric’s possessiveness was growing greatily and he wouldn’t let me out of his sight even for a moment. I never imagined him to be the jealous type considering how cold he was at the beginning but now, the Alaric I knew was a totally different man. Though my fear of him had vanished, I still never dared to offend him like before because I never knew when he would erupt and pour his anger on me. I was wary of everything I did and until he initiated anything, conversations, kisses, I never did.
Sitting in the office, I didn’t realize I was too lost in thoughts and didn’t see the man approaching. It was until he held my shoulder from behind my desk did I snap out in surprise.
"What is it?" His voice alone was intimidating but I had grown used to it. Though he was still cold as before, he had become touchy and wouldn’t let an opportunity slide if he could touch me, but he never went all the way. He would stop after making me feel pleasure countless times. It was frustrating being left that way but I never complained.
"It’s nothing to worry about," I replied when I felt him squeezing my shoulders.
The man went silent before he placed his chin on my shoulder, then whispered, "I still want to know."
And there he went again. He always wished to know what was on my mind, what I was up to, everything I wanted to do. I was not allowed to spend time outside or with any other person. Not even Seth who was sent away to hell knows where, a day after he arrived. I had tried to ask him but as usual, I never received an answer.
"I just want to go home," I replied feeling overwhelmed and pained at the same time.
"Alright, let’s go."
I held hand his hand over my shoulder still not looking at him, "What about work? It’s fine I can go by myself."
I already knew what his answer would be but I still went ahead.
"No." I felt my chest tighten and was unable to breath. "I’ll take you myself and come back."
I sighed inwardly wondering if things would have been better if I never regained my memory. At least I was independent, free of pain and never bound to someone this greatily. I missed my old self and just wanted to pretend as if nothing happened or maybe forget everything again.
This version of Alaric was becoming a hindrance and choking my space that I couldn’t do anything privately. I hated it. I wanted to run and stay away from him even if it was for a moment. If it was possible, I just wanted to erase the fact that I was his enemy’s daughter and just be with him. No fear, no restrictions, just us. Maybe it could change his attitude towards because I was sure that was the reason he had become too mindful and controlling.
We left the company immediately and I sat near the window, immersed in my thoughts. I needed a solution out of this as soon as possible. Even if Alaric was my mate, he had no right to control me the way he wanted just because he didn’t trust me or whatever reason he had.
"Will you tell me what’s on your mind today? You’ve been absent-minded since morning." I heard him talk behind me but I was too annoyed to reply.
I knew the consequences of doing so and instantly, he grabbed my arm aggressively pulling me towards him.
"You are hurting me," I complained in a low tone, but didn’t try to struggle because I knew it would only get worse.
"Then answer my question," if I didn’t know better, I would have thought I was at fault with the low, soft voice he used as he brushed my hair behind my ear.
I nodded and looked at him calmly then asked, "Do you love me, Alaric?" That was a question I had also asked several times but he always avoided it, or either changed the topic. If not so, he would distract me by a kiss or even deeper.
As usual, he retreated and sat upright then I heard him say, "That’s not what I asked."
The rest of the journey was silent as I dived into another world, trying to erase the discomfort in my heart, while taking a silent vow. I would do anything to escape this hell that I was fated to. Even if I had to experience the most excruciating pain of a wolf in order to be free, I would do it.
The car stopped and without a word, I opened the door ready to leave.
"Ven," but he stopped me when I stepped out. Ven. How I wished it was some weeks earlier he had called me that. When I was that fearless, happy and a free girl. I would have been over to the moon but now, all I felt was an attempt to cage me in his obsessive feelings. I wasn’t sure anymore if he even had any romantic feelings for me or it was just the mate bond that held him tied to me. Sometimes I just wanted to tell him to reject me and get ourselves out of this misery but I wasn’t sure if I could handle that pain. The love I had for him had grown too deep rooted to the extent of not willing to give up too easily and hoped he would change if I showed him I had no connection to my past. A past that was clearly the problem, because I knew he still suspected me, even if it was just slightly.
"Wait for me." I matched away after he said that without looking back.
The car sped off and I got into the mansion. The place was empty with no Luke nor Zeke whom I was used to seeing every time we got back from the office.
I was about to head to the lift when I heard someone crashing utensils in the kitchen. I could already guess who that person could be.
"Hello, Zeke," I greeted with a half smile, leaning on the kitchen entrance.
I almost laughed when he almost dropped the pan in his hand on his bare leg. Though I knew he didn’t feel pain due to such a little thing, his shocked reaction brought me down to earth with happiness.
"You! When did you come?" I could sense the surprise in his voice though his angry expression suggested otherwise. "It’s... only 1pm. Did you get fired?"
If it were before, I would have gotten pissed off and maybe even argued with him but something inside seemed to have matured. As if I knew there was no time for me here, my days were numbered and I wouldn’t want to form enmity on my last days.
"I think we started on the wrong foot," I spoke instead of replying to his question
"Yes, that’s why my foot got hurt too. What do you want? I have no time for your petty quarrels as am trying to cook here. So, if you have nothing..."
"Let’s go out for lunch." That came out sudden but I was sure of what I said. "Let’s clear the bad blood between us and start over."
As expected, Zeke froze before taking steps closer towards me. "Did you hit your head or have you completely lost it? Which is which?"
I chuckled lightly at his words wondering how I could ever hate this stupid guy. Yes, he did make me angry, but truthfully, I never had any ill intentions for him.
"If you agree then, I’ll leave Alaric for good. Isn’t that what you want?"
