Destroy My Life In You -
Chapter 42: Broken Souls
Chapter 42: Broken Souls
It was after twilight and was now back in my room, having insisted on being discharged from the hospital, which Alaric took long to consent.
My mind was still occupied with everything that had happened today. It was supposed to be a joyous occasion when I regained my memory but after what that stranger had said to me, fear gripped me but most of all, my heart was in pain and fighting a battle. I didn’t want to hide anything from Alaric, but if everything I was told was true, I didn’t know what he would do to me. From all the things I loved, my life mattered to me most and would not let anyone snatch it away from me.
I groaned, pulling my hair, feeling mixed feelings creeping in, driving me to the edge of losing it. I stood up from the bed and started pacing up and down, thinking what to do next. Run away? Tell the truth? The latter was out of question, for I feared for my life.
I took an abrupt stop when I thought of something, or rather someone. The person I had been waiting for to arrive. He had a solution to almost every problem, and I was sure he would not fail me. Even if I told him who I really was, the person would never abandon me considering how much we had gone through together. Maybe he would freak out at first, but I knew the man would always be there for me as we had promised each other.
I made a decision to meet the person the next day so I would get out of this mess as soon as possible before things got worse.
"Miss Ravenna," Luke’s voice startled me, but I regained my composure instantly. I did not answer immediately, thinking whether I should open the door or not. I didn’t want to meet anyone at that moment. Whenever I looked at them, especially Alaric, I felt guilty and vulnerable as if they could see through my lie.
"Miss Ravenna," Luke called again, and I gulped before deciding to hear what he had to say.
"Do you need something?" I asked plainly, looking away from his eyes.
There was no answer for some seconds, and I turned my gaze at him. I could detect surprise and something else in his eyes but cared less at that moment. I didn’t want to be near anyone. I could also guess that Luke was one of them because there was no way Alaric would have him as the only servant in his mansion and be human. He had to be a vampire, too.
Fear gripped my heart, and I almost wanted to slam the door at his face, but that would be too suspicious. "Am not feeling fine and would like to rest a bit more." I added to shun him away, and I saw his expression turned blank, and he nodded in understanding, then left.
I leaned behind the door after closing it, exhaling deeply. I felt like crying and shouting, but I knew that would attract their attention with their heightened hearing ability, so I held back.
My head was aching, my heart was aching too and my soul was shattered. I didn’t know why, but the thought of leaving from here was killing me inside. It was as if I could not even breathe if Alaric was not by my side. The connection, love, and flash of the memories we shared, I didn’t want to lose it. If this was obsession, then so be it. I was obsessed with him in a span of three weeks since I knew him.
This instance passion, it wasn’t normal, and now, with my supernatural knowledge, I could already guess why it happened. I had heard and witnessed that falling in love with someone this fast and so deeply only happened when one found their... mate.
This only meant that Alaric was my destined mate. Even if I had no wolf, I was still an Alpha’s daughter, and his blood was running in my veins. I did have some abilities like I could still hear from a far, smell scents from a far, and now did I understand I was also able to feel the mate bond. It pulled me towards Alaric even if I had recollection of who I was and made me connected to him so deeply.
Tears welled in my eyes as I slid down on the door, cursing my unfortunate fate. How was this even possible? First, it was ousted from my pack, and now I discovered that the man I had grown to love was a vampire and also my mate? If it was only love as I knew it, it would have been possible to forget him, but now, it involved the mate bond, which could not be broken. Not that easily.
I was in shock. A wave of emotions rushed in me - confusion, disbelief, and fear - as my brain tried to catch up with reality. My head was spinning, and I felt like falling into a deep slumber where I could not wake up. What a day it was, filled with shocking revelations that I wished they had been kept buried in their graves. Maybe I had wronged someone greatly in my past life, and I was paying for it.
"This is not possible. It can’t be possible... Am just dreaming and will wake up soon... Yes, that’s it. Ravenna, just stay calm and lay down before you run mad... What do I do now! I hate life." I was still in denial u able to discern what was true and what was a lie. I reigned curses on my bad luck and slammed my body on the bed.
I shut my eyes, ready to fall into darkness, but before I could dk that, I heard the door to my room open. I stood up abruptly and in fear, wondering who it could be, then I saw Alaric.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, taking a step back but colliding on the bed, I ended up falling on it in a sitting position.
"Are you fine? Should we go to the hospital?" I heard him ask in a low caring voice that he had not used before, which made me want to blurt everything out but decided against it.
"Am okay. Just a slight headache, I’ll be fine." I replied, fixating on my restless fingers.
There was silence, which almost killed me for a moment, and then I heard him close the door behind him and motioned towards me. I looked up immediately, and he was there squatting in front of me. This time, I was not amazed how he had moved fast but felt scared under his watchful gaze. I couldn’t breathe properly and decided to just hold my breath.
I bit my lip chanting inwardly for him to leave, because if he didn’t, then I would be discovered due to my restlessness, and I didn’t know what I would say if he asked me. I was not that good when it came to lying.
"Are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital?"
I nodded immediately, my mind filled with what I should do to drive him away. And I came up with one thought, actually, it was a bad one but at that moment, I had no choice.
"Alaric," I called his name, feeling my body heat up with agitation.
"Hmm," he hummed his eyes fixated on mine, then he placed his hands on mine that were shivering. Not from cold but fear of his reaction because of what I was going to say next.
"Let’s break up." I closed my eyes and said, though that statement broke every part of me into pieces."I don’t love you anymore."
I waited and waited but there was nothing. All I felt was the withdrawal of his hands and then the slamming of the door. My eyes went open and Alaric was nowhere in the room. He had left. I bit my lip to restrain a painful cry but I couldn’t do it anymore. I dropped to the ground leaning my back on the bed and burst into silent cries.
There was no one to blame. I was the one at fault with a foul destiny to be fated to my family’s enemy, who was also supposed to be my enemy. But I didn’t care about that or whatsoever grudges the wolves and vampires had. What broke me was the thought of Alaric being the one to end my life. I could handle anything but not that. My soul would be in eternal agony if that ever happened.
"Why me? Why us?" I buried my faces on my knees sobbing in torment that I was sure to experience for the rest of my life, because the following day, I would leave the place. Every plan to even seek assistance was swept away. It was good that Alaric could not feel the mate bond and was not deeply in love with me so he could get over it easily. The way he had walked away without a word cleared my every doubt.
***************
The lift opened and Alaric came out, his eyes blazing red. He walked towards the wine cellar bar where Finn and Zander were seated, and filled a glass before drinking it one gulp, then slammed the cup on the table.
Finn and Zander stared at each other knowingly then shifted to Alaric.
"So?" Finn went first and asked.
Alaric clenched the glass on his hand then replied, "As I thought, she remembers." The glass broke on his hand cutting him but healed immediately.
"Did she tell you that?" Zander asked his eyes portraying nothing.
"No, but I could tell. She was overly nervous and even scared. Which only means she knows who we are." Alaric explained before grabbing a bottle of whiskey and drank from it.
"How?" Finn narrowed his eyes curiously, waiting for an answer just like Zander.
"Someone told her." Alaric replied firmly and his eyes turned from red to golden, burning with fire. Zander and Finn looked at him both shocked. "When I went back to the hospital, I could perceive three unfamiliar scents in the room and she also looked scared when she saw me. It wasn’t the nurses because she said no doctor had come to see her since I left, which only means someone else was there and told her things she wasn’t supposed to know."
Alaric sounded angry, very angry that Finn flinched when he saw him drink the entire bottle of whiskey and threw away the bottle.
"We will find the person you don’t have to get overworked," Zander said and stood up, preparing to leave.
Before he could take a step, Alaric moved in a flash and held him by the color before saying with gritted teeth. "You better do before I turn your lady luck into my new source of fun. You know what I mean?" He threw Zander away, flying to the couch and luckikg landed there. "The nerve of that woman to say that we should break up. What does she take me for? She’s my fucking my mate and I won’t let her leave me too!"
Alaric cleared up the table breaking the glasses of wine in a fit of anger. He was burning when her words echoed in his mind continuously.
