Chapter 251 - Chapter 251 Chapter 251 The Desiccated Male Corpse
Chapter 251: Chapter 251: The Desiccated Male Corpse Chapter 251: Chapter 251: The Desiccated Male Corpse “I’m not available right now, but when will I be?”
Roger felt like he had deciphered the meaning behind the redhead girl’s words.
“Does it mean that I should wait a bit longer?”
With that question in mind, he drifted off to sleep.
When he woke up the next morning, Amanda had already left, leaving behind a note on the table with a smiley face drawn on it.
After breakfast, Roger drove straight to the University of Bordeaux. He had already explained the purpose of his visit, and as soon as he entered the room, Dickinson handed him a piece of paper.
“Here are some tasks that are more suited for you.”
“I’ve asked around, and the difficulty of the tasks isn’t too high. With your abilities, you should be able to complete them easily.”
Roger flipped through them one by one, until his eyes suddenly fixed on one particular task.
Withered male corpses.
On the outskirts of New Moon City, male corpses drained of Essence Blood were frequently discovered, but what was eerie was that these men seemed not to have suffered before death, with satisfied expressions on their faces.
At the back of the information, there were several photos of the men just before death, their mouths curled into a faint smile, their eyes wide open, as if every muscle was filled with pleasure.
This manner of death reminded Roger of some things Henrik had once told him.
“Has anyone taken on this task?”
Roger inquired.
Dickinson took the materials from Roger’s hands, glanced through them, and said, “To be honest, I wouldn’t recommend you take this task.”
He pointed at the task location mentioned above.
“Although this village is marked on the outskirts of New Moon City, in reality, it has already fallen outside of New Moon City’s control.”
“Maybe you’re not aware, only the areas around New Moon City are relatively safe; once you leave New Moon City, you could encounter deadly monsters at any moment!”
“What level of enemies might appear?”
“Full Moon Witch level?”
Roger asked.
“How could that be?”
“In the vicinity of New Moon City, the combat power of a Full Moon level has almost reached the peak; it’s not something one would come across easily. Such a monster’s movements would attract special attention.”
“As long as it’s not at the Full Moon level, it’s okay.”
Roger breathed a sigh of relief. If it was only New Moon level enemies, even if he couldn’t defeat them, he was fairly confident that he could escape.
“It seems like I’ve found a powerful ally.”
Dickinson smiled; the stronger Roger grew, the safer he would be.
He thought to himself that it might be wise to place a few more bets on Roger.
“Let’s go with this task.”
Roger made his decision, “Additionally, as per the rules, during the course of completing this task, I hope to have the support of the Hunters Guild.”
“Assign me an assistant.”
“Henrik.”
“No problem.” Dickinson noted it down with a pen.
“Since there are so many dangers around the periphery of New Moon City, why hasn’t the Hunters Guild tried to clear these dangers?”
Roger voiced the doubt in his heart.
“Firstly, it’s not possible; secondly, there’s no need,” Dickinson laughed. “I think you must have noticed an issue–that the combat power around New Moon City is confined to a specific range.”
Roger nodded; it was something he had only learned recently.
“The Cursed Land is like a malignant tumor existing in this world, and like any tumor, it grows. Many years ago, New Moon City was just an ordinary part of the Cursed Land.”
“But because of some accidents that led to a large-scale monster outbreak, the guild had no choice but to send high-level fighters to cleanse it.”
“Although they temporarily contained the spread of the monsters, it wasn’t long before the whole area seemed stimulated and began to crazily expand outward, birthing even stronger monsters.”
Dickinson made an analogy.
“Ever seen a virus?”
“Those that don’t kill it only make it stronger.”
“Without ending the world synchronization, we cannot completely close this place, and the hidden danger will always exist.”
“We are like the oddities among humans, and the Cursed Land is the oddity within the world.”
“Go and get ready. That place is in urgent need of Transcendent-level combat power. I think it won’t be long before your application gets approved.”
He glanced at Roger, “Once you complete the mission, the timing should be just right, and I’ll introduce you to some new friends.”
Dickinson seemed to be hinting at something, and Roger knew that his so-called new friends were Otherworldly Souls like themselves.
“Regarding what you said about Soul Transfer…”
Roger asked tentatively.
“Now is not the time. I need to find a suitable body, and you’re not strong enough yet.”
“What do I need to do?”
“Wait patiently, my friend.”
Roger could tell that Dickinson was hiding something, but he didn’t ask further. Everything would have to wait until after he completed his mission.
Leaving the University of Bordeaux, Roger returned to his house and diligently worked on increasing his strength. Although the rate of growth of his spiritual power had slowed down somewhat, it was still acceptable.
In just a few days, the newly formed spiritual power was quite substantial, enough to form a weak Mental Circle.
When this mass of spiritual power grew to its limit, Roger should be able to attempt to solidify a new Dharma Seal model.
A few more days passed, and both he and Henrik received a message. They got ready and headed to the Hunters Sub-guild.
Compared to the last time, there were significantly fewer people in the hall this time. It seemed that the terrifying casualty rate had scared away the vast majority of people.
After putting on the Hunters Guild’s badge, they rode the elevator down deep into the underground.
The elevator doors opened, revealing a massive iron door about 10 meters high in front of them. Besides themselves, there were also some Demon Hunters waiting around.
“This is your new equipment.”
Someone handed Roger two sets of clothing, tight-fitting shirts and pants, made from an unknown animal’s leather that looked soft but was extremely tough.
The overall color of the clothing was dark, with little decoration and tailored very fittingly–all serving the purpose of combat.
After changing into the clothes, Roger tied his slightly long hair at the back of his head, and the original urban youth disappeared. The person reflected in the mirror was a resolute-looking Demon Hunter.
“I have to admit, that outfit suits you well.”
Henrik was rare in his seriousness.
“Click!”
Fixing the Steel Sword into the slot on the back of his leather belt, Roger was also very satisfied with his current appearance.
“Welcome to New Moon City.”
The iron door opened a crack, and everyone filed in one after another. A flash of white light passed by, and as their sight returned to normal, they saw Gothic-style blue stone buildings in front of them.
Dong, dong, dong!
From behind the towering city walls came the faint tolling of bells.
“Another one has died.”
A voice came through. Roger followed the sound and saw a young man in tight clothing speaking with a companion nearby. The young man noticed Roger’s gaze, and a flash of contempt passed through his eyes.
“Be careful. Next time, those bells might be tolling for you!”
