Chapter 347: The Young Master’s Joyful Chinese New Year’s Eve
Chapter 347: Chapter 347: The Young Master’s Joyful Chinese New Year’s Eve
The Yan family’s Chinese New Year’s Eve this year is more lively and festive than ever before.
The reason, of course, is that the family has grown, and most importantly, among the new members, there’s a lively and frolicsome little boy.
With Chen Jing, the super chief, in the house, the Yan family’s own chiefs have no opportunity to show their skills today. Chen Jing got up early and started preparing for the New Year’s Eve dinner, and Zhu Qianying stopped her work to help Chen Jing in the kitchen.
Last night, the little boy heard Uncle Hai say that all the new flower pots and vases of New Year’s trees and New Year’s Oranges in their house should be adorned with auspicious red stickers with phrases like "Blooming Fortune" and "Great Luck". He patted his chest and volunteered to take up the task.
Seeing the little boy so enthusiastic, Yan Bo and his wife, as well as the Eldest Young Master of the Yan family, who seldom partake in such little matters, rolled up their sleeves to help after breakfast.
As a result, the servants didn’t have to fuss about these small things and went for a thorough cleaning. Every single person in the household, except for Star, the dog who now has the privilege to freely roam the house, was busily bustling about quite industriously, wagging its tail leisurely and pretending to be cute behind the little boy.
"Grandma, what kind of flower is this?" the little boy asked while busy and learning.
The old lady Yan quickly called for help from Yan Bo. You have to know, in the last few decades, the Yan family had never put so much effort into celebrating a Spring Festival, so she didn’t know what kind of flower it was either.
"That’s a chime..." Yan Bo quickly replied.
The little boy nodded understandingly then pointed at a pot of beautiful purple flowers that looked like butterflies and proudly said, "I know this one, it’s a moth orchid!"
"Impressive!" Yan Bo nodded approvingly.
The eldest young master asked the little boy while applying paste, "Baby, how about we set off fireworks in the garden after the reunion dinner?"
The little boy immediately turned around, his eyes wide open, and asked excitedly, "Can we?"
Seeing his reaction, Young Master Yan knew he’d hit the nail on the head again, "Of course we can! Do you want to set off firecrackers or fireworks, baby?"
The little boy tilted his head and carefully considered, then cautiously glanced at Mr. and Mrs. Yan Bo and Young Master Yan, then asked, "Can we... set off both?"
Of course, the eldest young master wouldn’t refuse, but he certainly wouldn’t pass up this great opportunity to seek some benefits!
So he frowned in feigned distress, and only when he saw the little boy start to look anxiously did he leisurely say, "It’s not impossible... You just need to give Daddy a kiss..."
The little boy’s face immediately brightened, without any hesitation, he put down the red sticker in his hand, ran quickly to Young Master Yan, and gave him a peck on the face.
Young Master Yan was not satisfied this time, pointing to his pouting lips. The boy did not hesitate at all, he tiptoed and gave the Eldest Young Master a kiss on the lips.
Young Master Yan was thrilled, he didn’t care about anything else, he picked up the little boy and started spinning around on the spot.
The little boy clearly loved this thrilling game, after spinning around he started to giggle, eventually, he automatically put one arm around Young Master Yan’s neck and opened the other hand, enjoying the happiness brought by the spinning.
The two grandpas spun around in the living room like fools, not knowing how many turns they made until the little boy shouted, "I’m so dizzy... I’m so dizzy..."
The Eldest Young Master stopped and collapsed onto the sofa with the little boy in his arms, both of them dizzy but hugging each other and giggling.
The old Mrs. Yan had taken out her mobile phone at some point and secretly recorded the lovely interaction between the two grandpas. When she saw the big and small ones nestled in the sofa rubbing against each other, Old Mrs. Yan’s eyes unknowingly started to moisten.
Yan Bo heard his wife sniffle heavily and knew she was moved by the scene in front of her. He silently handed her a tissue to wipe her eyes.
The two grandpas, who had rested on the sofa for a while, finally got over their dizziness.
Young Master Yan recovered a bit faster than the little boy, but since it was rare for the little boy to nestle in his arms so quietly when he was awake, Young Master Yan pretended to be dizzy and continued to laze on the sofa.
After catching his breath, the little boy saw Elder Young Master Yan’s smiling face. He seemed to have just registered it, slightly startled, and then, nonchalantly crawled out of his arms, jumped onto the floor with a thud and ran barefoot towards Yan Bo.
"Grandpa, I want to prepare red envelopes..." he said.
New Year’s trees and New Year’s Oranges, apart from being decorated with lucky red stickers on the pots/vases, also have to be adorned with several red envelopes. The envelopes look similar to the ones the little boy received, however, they have much less money inside.
Usually, one or two one-yuan bills or coins are placed inside these red envelopes, which are then tied with a small string and hung on New Year’s trees. Usually, for small pots, one envelope is enough.
For larger plants like peach trees and New Year’s Oranges, the number of red envelopes you hang depends on personal preference, with lucky numbers like "6", "8", "12", "18" being very popular.
"Go to Uncle Hai to get the red envelope covers and coins..." Yan Bo ordered, patting the little boy’s head.
A moment later, the little boy, who had popped up out of nowhere, was carrying a bowl that contained several bundles of red envelope covers and half a bowl of coins.
"Ay, I’m exhausted!" he exclaimed.
Perhaps the half a bowl of coins was too heavy, the little boy ran to the middle of the living room, couldn’t help but sit on the carpet, panting and shaking his little arms.
Yan Bo, his wife, and the eldest young master, seeing him like this, couldn’t help laughing.
The little boy was laughing at by everyone but seemed not to mind. He simply let himself fall back, the whole person spread out on the carpet like a big letter. When Star saw him, he squatted beside the little boy in a protective pose and kept silent.
Young Master Yan looked at his son for a few moments, then turned around and ordered someone to go out and prepare firecrackers and fireworks.
The little boy recovered quickly, and after lying on the carpet for about ten seconds, he popped right up, like a carp flipping in the air. This time, he didn’t bother to move, and sat cross-legged on the carpet, beginning to stuff coins into red envelopes.
Following Uncle Hai’s instructions, he put two coins in each red envelope. As the pile coins in the bowl gradually decreased, a small hill of red envelopes started growing around him.
As he was packing, the little boy got playful and put ten coins into one envelope and handed it over to Star.
"Star, here’s your red envelope!"
