Chapter 348: Starving Old Rogue
Chapter 348: Chapter 348: Starving Old Rogue
Star seemed to understand what he was saying and held the envelope in his mouth, humming vaguely as if to thank the little boy. Then, he ran off with the envelope between his teeth. It wasn’t until he reached the small corner by the shoe cabinet that he finally put it down.
In this corner, besides this freshly placed envelope, there was an orange ping pong ball, a small yellow duck, and a small piece of wood. These were all gifts that his father had given to him over the past couple of days, which he had stashed away here.
Zhu Qianying, who was helping out in the kitchen, occasionally checked on her son. Seeing that her son was getting along well with the Yan’s family brought her some relief.
Even though she constantly felt uncomfortable since moving in here, at least her son was happy, which was what mattered the most.
"Ying’er, what are you planning to do after the Spring Festival?"
It was clear to Chen Jing that her daughter was looking for various reasons and excuses to make herself more comfortable about staying here.
Others might not notice, but with the deeper understanding that Chen Jing had acquired of her daughter over the years, she could somewhat feel that ever since her daughter returned here, all her happiness was short-lived and superficial. The truth was, living here was extremely distressing for her, it was like living in a cage.
Even though, on the surface, her daughter was still keeping her routine, eating and sleeping as usual, Chen Jing realized that her daughter was experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions these days.
Indeed, it wasn’t hard to understand.
Chen Jing herself had also been through the same and if she were to be thrown back into Zhu family, even without any lingering feelings for Zhu Zhizhou, being in a familiar environment would naturally stir up memories of the past, whether good or bad, which would become a source of agony for her.
And her daughter’s situation was, clearly, similar.
Although she didn’t know which specific memories her daughter still held in this house, she was certain that these memories were a mix of joy and sorrow.
She understood better than anyone else that her daughter was easily pleased; small things could make her extremely happy. Perhaps because her upbringing within the Zhu family, with her parents, had offered her little happiness, she cultivated a personality that was easily satisfied and optimistic.
As for the sorrow she mentioned, it was likely related to Young Master Yan.
Because, if Young Master Yan hadn’t hurt her so deeply, she wouldn’t have left so resolutely five years ago.
"Mom, let’s talk after the Spring Festival..."
Watching her son so blissful and carefree, Zhu Qianying felt that the agony she suffered by staying here was insignificant in comparison.
"Actually, we can move to R City, or even W Province would be great..."
She didn’t sell the house she still had in W Province because she had planned that when her mother got older, or no longer wanted to stay abroad, she would send her there to retire.
"Mom, that’s too far, it’s inconvenient!"
When she initially bought the house, her main intent was to get as far away from the Zhu family as possible. The further away, the better, preferably to somewhere out of their reach.
But under the current circumstances, that house probably only retained its investment value and is no longer suitable for living.
Seeing her son becoming happier by the day, how could Zhu Qianying have the heart to once again strip him of the opportunity to experience a father’s love and love from other elders?
"Ying’er, I understand that everything you do is for the best of our baby boy. But have you considered that you’re going to be suffering more and more living like this?"
Over the years, as Chen Jing reflected more on her life in the Zhu family, she felt more and more remorse for not being good to her daughters, especially to her elder daughter.
The older daughter had endured much hardship for many years of her life, trying to accommodate everyone in Zhu family. Now, all Chen Jing wanted was for her daughter to be happy and enjoy her life, just like how her daughter wanted her baby boy to be happy.
"Mom, I’m fine! After the Spring Festival, when things calm down at Zhu family, there’s no need for us to continue living here."
These words of Zhu Qianying were meant for both herself and her mother, but were clearly overheard by Young Master Yan, who had suddenly become an extraordinarily doting daddy, and who was about to get some fruit for their little boy.
Not only had he heard the response from Zhu Qianying, but he also heard Chen Jing’s question.
He stood at the kitchen door, frozen for a while, unsure whether to go in or leave.
The past couple of days, he had been in such a state of bliss that he was blinded. He had been under the beautiful illusion that his wife and son both had returned and they were about to enjoy a big, joyful family reunion during the Spring Festival.
However, he didn’t take into account that staying in the house, which had once deeply hurt her, could be worse than death for Zhu Qianying.
In the end, he was still too selfish!
He was just concerned about his own happiness and the happiness of his parents, while completely ignoring Zhu Qianying’s feelings.
Yougn Master Yan was lost for a moment. He then retreated a few steps back and pretended to just have arrived at the kitchen door. He then called out loudly to Zhu Qianying inside.
"Ying’er, the little one wants to eat cherries. Can you check if there are any in the fridge?"
Zhu Qianying in the kitchen didn’t read much into it. She responded and turned to check the fridge, "Yes, I also can wash them and take them out."
Young Master Yan tactfully vacated the kitchen and saw that in the living room, the little boy was on tiptoes trying to hang the lucky money on the higher branches of the orange tree. But even when he tiptoed, he still couldn’t reach it.
After trying a few times, the little boy started to jump towards the branches. Although he could now reach them, he still couldn’t successfully hang it on the tree. He gave up on jumping, turned around, and started to look for a stool or something similar to stand on.
Young Master Yan strode towards him before he could find any substitute. Without uttering a word, he lifted the little boy up from under his arms.
The little boy didn’t say anything either. He just hung multiple lucky money envelopes on the branches he could now easily reach.
After hanging one envelope, Young Master Yan shifted over a little, carrying the little boy as they moved slowly round the orange tree.
When Zhu Qianying came out with the washed cherries, the grandfather-grandson duo was on the verge of hanging the biggest "good fortune" envelope on the topmost branch of the orange tree.
Zhu Qianying didn’t want to disturb their interaction, so she just stood aside silently for a while, then put the plate of cherries on the coffee table.
"Baby boy, the cherries are washed. They’re here, wash your hands before eating!"
"Okay... Thank you, Mommy!"
Although the little boy was busy, he still remembered to thank Zhu Qianying.
Zhu Qianying had intended not to disturb their smooth cooperation and warm interaction, but the voice of her son was so soft and tender, she couldn’t resist going over and giving him a big kiss on his chubby little cheek.
She then turned only to meet the wide eyes of Young Master Yan, who was looking straight at her, unblinkingly staring at her lips!
Damn it! He really was a thirsty old pervert!
