Chapter 93: Divine language

That it was watching him.

The golden bug’s wings fluttered once.

A faint golden glow pulsed from its body, spreading through the air.

And in that moment—

Liam felt something.

A strange, fleeting presence.

A feeling that—

For just a split second—

He was standing before something far greater than himself.

His breath hitched.

Then, just as quickly as it came, the feeling disappeared.

The room was silent.

No one else seemed to notice anything unusual.

Lela and Cynthia were still lost in admiration.

Emma simply stroked the bug’s back gently, a soft smile on her lips.

Liam, however, couldn’t ignore what had just happened.

He exhaled slowly, calming himself.

’...I need to be careful with this one.’ He mumbled inwardly.

He now understood why Lilith said Emma was powerful.

The bug might appear cute and harmless, but it was far more dangerous than that.

And for the first time in a long while—

Liam wasn’t sure if he was strong enough to deal with it.

’Divine beings, I’m still quite weak compared to these creatures.’ He thought.

[Yes, you sure are.]

Lilith coldly said, adding more salt to his injuries.

’You didn’t have to put it like that.’ He mumbled inwardly, clicking its tongue.

[I don’t know much about divine creatures, but I know they exist in another world, or realm as some liked to call it.]

[They are similar to demons, except that they serve the gods, and all possess divinity.]

’Yeah, they wouldn’t be called ’divine’ for nothing.’ Liam thought, narrowing his eyes at the golden bug.

Liam narrowed his eyes at the golden bug.

It was still hovering around Emma, moving in slow, elegant circles.

From the way it shimmered with divine light, there was no doubt it was a creature of great significance.

Lilith’s voice returned, a thoughtful hum in her tone.

[The one Emma can summon seems to belong to the light element.]

Liam raised an eyebrow.

"Light element?" he muttered under his breath.

For some reason, he had assumed all divine creatures were the same.

But hearing Lilith mention an elemental affiliation made him curious.

"Are there divine creatures of other elements?" He asked mentally.

[Of course,] Lilith replied as if it was obvious.

’That’s good to know.’ Liam thought, a strange glint flashing across his eyes.

Though he had knew about other elements, such as fire, and even lightning, he had never actually seen one in action.

According to the holy church, the element of light was the only ’divine’ element, and all the others came secondary.

Since Seraphina, the goddess of light, was the first to offer her blessings to the humans of this world, her name was more widely spread and respected.

It was also why Lumeria was the biggest kingdom in the human world, and also the one with the highest strength.

This same notion was shared by the people of Lumeria, and they started seeing themselves as somewhat superior to the other kingdoms.

However, they all shared one thing in common, and that was their hate for demons and the element of darkness.

[Any being that resides in the same world as a god is considered a divine creature.]

Liam frowned slightly.

A world where gods resided?

It wasn’t a surprise that such a thing existed, but still—he had never considered it.

Lilith continued.

[Divine creatures are influenced by the overflowing energy of the god they live near.]

[That energy causes them to evolve and attain divinity.]

Liam absorbed the information carefully.

"So, divine creatures aren’t born, but made?"

[It depends,] Lilith replied smoothly. [Some creatures are born divine, but most evolve into one.]

[How powerful they become depends on two factors—how close they are to their god, and how strong they were before evolution.]

Liam tapped his fingers against his thigh.

"So if a weak creature gains divinity, it won’t necessarily become that strong?"

[Exactly,] Lilith confirmed.

[But there’s another way.]

Liam glanced at the golden bug again, watching as it left a faint trail of shimmering dust in the air.

"What way?"

[A god can directly channel their power into a creature, granting it divinity.]

Liam’s eyes flickered with interest.

"So a god can just... create a divine creature whenever they want?"

[Not that simple,] Lilith said. [It requires a significant amount of divine power. But yes, a god can bestow divinity upon a being of their choosing.]

Liam exhaled, turning back to the bug.

It was still flying around Emma, while the noble girl simply let it do as it pleased.

Her face was calm, serene—almost as if she was used to this sight.

Meanwhile, Lela and Cynthia were staring at the golden creature with visible jealousy.

Their eyes followed its every movement, entranced by the beautiful dust particles it left behind.

They weren’t even thinking about Rex anymore.

The urgency of the situation had completely faded from their minds.

Liam noticed this but said nothing.

His gaze flickered back to the bug, analyzing it carefully.

’It doesn’t look like a creature built for combat...’

It had no sharp claws, no fangs, no dangerous aura.

It was small and fragile-looking—the kind of creature someone might admire, not fear.

But before he could voice that thought—

[Don’t judge based on appearances,] Lilith warned.

Liam turned his attention back to her voice.

[Divine creatures are unpredictable. More so than demons.]

More than demons?

That was... an interesting statement.

Liam didn’t comment, but he kept her words in mind.

He could already tell that the golden bug was more than it appeared, especially after it detected him using [Eye of Truth].

He exhaled through his nose.

’It still pains me Eye of Truth doesn’t work on it, I could have at least seen its stats.’ He thought.

His fingers twitched slightly, still bothered by that fact.

For the first time in a while, he had encountered something beyond his detection abilities.

It left an uncomfortable feeling in his chest.

Suddenly—

Emma stretched out her hand.

The golden bug stopped midair, then gracefully descended onto her palm.

As it landed, tiny golden dust particles fell along with it.

The dust settled on Emma’s smooth skin, glowing softly before fading into nothingness.

She didn’t seem to mind.

Instead—

She closed her eyes.

A strange silence fell over the room.

Then, she opened them again—

And muttered softly:

"Help me, Uti."

Her voice was different.

It was deeper, almost like an echo of itself.

Liam’s eyes narrowed.

’Uti?’

Was that the bug’s name?

The second he thought that, he noticed something—

Cynthia and Lela’s expressions had shifted.

They were staring at Emma, their faces twisted in confusion.

Lela glanced at Cynthia.

Cynthia glanced back at Lela.

Then, both of them turned toward Emma again.

Their eyes were wide with confusion, their brows furrowed deeply.

It was as if they were trying to process something, but their minds couldn’t grasp it.

The sight was almost comical.

Liam raised an eyebrow.

’What’s wrong with them?’

Lilith’s voice returned, a hint of amusement lacing her tone.

[They can’t hear the divine language.]

Liam’s brows furrowed.

’Divine language?’

[Yes. Right now, Emma is speaking in an otherworldly language. One that only those with divinity can understand.]

Liam’s gaze sharpened.

A language that only divine beings could comprehend?

No wonder Cynthia and Lela looked so lost.

[To them, it just sounds like meaningless jargons,] Lilith explained.

Liam watched Cynthia and Lela’s expressions closely.

Their eyes flickered with frustration—not because they didn’t understand, but because...

Something about the words seemed to affect them.

Liam’s focus sharpened.

Even though they couldn’t comprehend the words—

They were still reacting to them.

[The divine language is special,] Lilith continued.

[Even if someone can’t understand it, their soul still feels its weight.]

Liam slowly processed her words.

A language that reached past comprehension—

And instead, directly touched the soul.

As Cynthia and Lela listened to Emma’s "meaningless" words, their bodies trembled slightly.

Their hands twitched.

Their expressions wavered.

The sound of the language made their souls quiver.

It was beautiful.

Yet at the same time—

It was terrifying.

Liam’s eyes flickered with intrigue.

’Divinity... divine gods... divine creatures... and now divine language.’ He mumbled inwardly, narrowing his eyes at Emma.

If she could summon creature from a divine realm, and even converse in their language, she surely couldn’t be classified as a normal human girl anymore.

For her to be able to awaken a power like that, she had already attained a sort of divinity.

And if Liam were to guess, it would be from birth, due to her being a descendant of the knight king.

Suddenly, the strange bug, floated back into the air.

Its body hovered in the air for a few seconds, and an even more powerful wave of divine energy washed all over the room.

Cynthia and Lela shivered, instantly falling to their knees.

’What the hell?’ Lela thought, gnashing her teeth.

She tried getting back up, but it felt like a mountain was pressed against her back, and her knees remained stuck on the ground.

The same thing was happening to Cynthia, who simply accepted her fate.

The only one who still remained standing, was Liam.
