Chapter 67: fury
Chapter 67: fury
"We still have to tell our families." Damon breathed as he let Alexander kiss his neck, air escaping his lips in small shallow puffs.
"Mmmh, we will do that later because right now... right now I am going to ravish you." The hunger in Alexander’s voice made Damon tremble from desire as he gave in and together, they made love beneath the stars.
"Love?" Alexander’s voice was deep yet soft as he gently ran his fingers through Damon’s hair an hour later, his eyes looking up at the brightly lit evening sky.
If only he could stay in Damon’s arms forever.
"Yes." Damon answered, his voice a bit sleepy.
"Could we do our wedding when I return from my quest. I have to leave in two days and I don’t want it to be rushed." Alexander spoke what was on his mind and Damon was silent for a while, his mind buzzing with numerous thoughts.
Alexander had already made up his mind on the chances of him surviving and that gave Damon more hope.
Looking forward to their wedding while Alexander was gone was surely going to keep him busy with preparations which was a good thing.
It could help to distract him from worrying too much and Damon sighed softly as his arms tightened around his fiance.
He didn’t want Alexander to leave so soon.
"Alright, we will wait but we should have an engagement party. Something small and intimate with only a few friends and family." Damon suggested.
"A party sounds nice." Alexander agreed as he kissed the top of Damon’s head.
"I love you." Alexander whispered as he closed his eyes, focusing on his heart that was beating right along with Damon’s.
Strong, steady and in love.
"I love you too." Damon smiled.
They headed back inside after a while, cuddling and falling asleep shortly afterwards in Damon’s bed.
.....
It was now two days since Eamon had lost consciousness and Valerion was getting more concerned as he lay beside his mate that night and cuddled him gently.
"Please wake up Eamon." His voice was a soft plea as he closed his eyes and tried to get some sleep.
He had gone through the several reports Ezekiel had sent him the previous day and so far, his search for the dragon responsible for the attack had not yielded any serious results but they had a clue on where to start.
They were dealing with an ancient dragon that was from a strong line of magic weilders.
The magic harnessed by this particular dragon was so strong that it managed to worry the most calm person he knew. Ezekiel was worried they were dealing with a dragon whose bloodline had been thought extinct for a while.
The dragon kingdom had not seen a ’fury’ as they were nicknamed in over five hundred years. The last one had reportedly died before Valerion or Ezekiel were born and all they knew about these dragons was from stories.
Having hides of a vibrant red, these dragons had been the most powerful bloodline after the royals and were notorious for their unparalleled strength in wilding their inner magic.
The previous king, Valerion’s uncle and Ezekiel’s father had viewed them as a threat and forced majority of them to mate and have offspring with lesser dragon breeds to reduce the amount of power they held.
It had been a reign of terror and the bloodline of the furies had slowly become less pure with every century, giving rise to the healers who could still weild magic but not as strongly as their ancestors.
Ezekiel was a refreshing change and he had tried to reverse the damage done by removing the restricting laws his father had put in place but it was already too late.
The bloodline was already so thin that it couldn’t be revived and that was how insecurity had nearly wiped out an entire dragon clan.
Valerion guessed that the new fury whose existence they had not known about until recently was out to get revenge for the crimes done against his people and Valerion knew if he had witnessed something similar, he could have wanted revenge as well.
He had not yet seen the dragon and only heard stories of his existence from Ezekiel and Eros who were actively carrying out the investigation as he stayed at home to take care of his mate.
The entire plot to torture members of the royal family all made sense now but even though Valerion could understand the reason as to why the dragon was attacking his family, he was still going to protect them.
They were all innocent and caught in the middle of a generational feud.
Valerion and his family didn’t deserve to pay for the crimes committed by their ancestors.
It just wasn’t fair.
Valerion eventually drifted off to sleep and the next morning, he dutifully gave Eamon a sponge bath and sat beside him for a while like he had done for the previous morning.
Now that he was temporarily bonded to Eamon, Valerion reluctantly left the house and went out to pick flowers nearby.
He had been told the scent helped to speed up recovery and even though he was a bit skeptical, Valerion knew it was worth a try.
He could do anything to have Eamon conscious again.
The bond could alert him of the slightest changes in Eamon’s emotions and at the moment, his mate seemed determined to wake up.
He was fighting to come back to him and Valerion was touched, his lips curling up into the faintest smile as he placed the wild flowers he had picked in a vase beside Eamon’s bed.
He headed to the kitchen to make himself breakfast and midway through his meal, Valerion’s body froze once his ears picked up on the smallest whisper of his name.
Eamon was calling him and the second call had him running to his mate.
"Val.... Valerion?" Eamon’s voice was hoarse and his throat felt terribly dry as he tried to open his eyelids that were a bit too heavy.
