Chapter 68: one small favor

"Yes love, I am here." The relief in Valerion’s voice was palpable as he held onto Eamon’s hand.

"I feel so weak, what happened?" Eamon asked as his eyes slowly fluttered, opening to look at Valerion whose ashen grey eyes swirled with a mix concern and relief.

"I will tell you everything later. Could you sit up and take some water? Valerion requested and Eamon slowly sat up, his hand trembling slightly as he reached out for the glass that Valerion was holding.

"Careful, I am going to help you hold it, okay?" Valerion’s voice was gentle as he brought the glass to Eamon’s lips.

The cool liquid was refreshing and Eamon finished the first glass and asked for a second which Valerion readily provided.

Once he was hydrated, he felt a little better but he was famished and still so weak to get out of bed.

"Wait here, I will get you something to eat." Eamon watched Valerion walk out as he tried to recall his last memory.

He remembered dancing with Tia and Eros and taking a short break to drink a little wine.

He also remembered getting quickly intoxicated and making his way to Valerion but everything after that was a blur.

His mate returned shortly afterwards, carrying a tray with a bowl of steaming soup.

"That’s a lot." Eamon noted as he looked at the large bowl he doubted he could finish.

"I know love but your doctor said this could help you regain your strength much faster." Valerion explained as he sat beside him, taking a spoonful of soup and blowing on it before putting it before Eamon’s lips.

"Are you going to feed me?" Eamon blushed and Valerion smirked.

"You don’t want me to?" Valerion asked and Eamon opened his lips, taking the soup.

"I don’t mind it but it makes me feel like a baby." Eamon admitted as he accepted another spoonful.

"Then, you are my baby to spoil." Valerion chuckled, his eyes filled with a warmth that warmed Eamon’s chest as he let his mate feed him.

He felt pampered and he loved it.

Eamon took more soup than he had expected and once he was done, his eyes lit up as Valerion joined him in bed, wrapping his arms around him as the lay together in a brief silence.

"Tell me what happened." Eamon requested as he lay his head on Valerion’s chest.

Valerion told him about the attack and of Ezekiel’s findings, telling him all he knew about the red dragon that was out for revenge.

"Thank you for protecting me." Eamon whispered once Valerion was done and the dragon tightened his arms around him.

"You’re welcome. I will always protect you. I know you could have done the same for me." Valerion’s voice was affectionate as he kissed the top of Eamon’s head.

"A red dragon?" Eamon mused, certain that he had never seen or heard of one. Dragons came in different shades and the closest shade to red he had seen was a dull crimson that was nearing to brown.

"I have never seen one myself. I have only heard of them in stories. They are quite powerful." Valerion admitted as he gently caressed Eamon’s hair.

"Val...I have a friend whose birthday is in three weeks. He is under a hex and might not live past his birthday. Can I go and see him?" Eamon spoke after a while, remembering his best friend who had just started the most terrifying month of his life.

He missed Damon and he wanted to be there for him.

"Is this friend prince Damon?" Valerion asked, remembering the human prince that had seemed to dislike him greatly.

He had heard the rumors of his curse and it had not concerned him as much but his mate clearly cared for the man and besides, they could not have been together if the prince had not asked his father to release Valerion.

In some twisted way, Damon was the reason Valerion had got to experience love again and the dragon felt like he owed him one small favor.

"Yes, it’s Damon." Eamon admitted and Valerion sighed softly.

"Alright you can go and see your friend but on one condition. I get to come along." Valerion agreed, still prioritizing his mate’s safety and even though the human kingdom was fairly safe, the dragon didn’t want to take his chances.

"I wasn’t planning on leaving without you." Eamon kissed Valerion’s cheek and the dragon was immensely pleased.

"I want to make sure that you are back to your peak health before we travel so we will live in four days. Is that okay?" Valerion asked.

"Yes, it is. I should send a letter to inform Damon that we will be arriving soon." Eamon said as he tried to get out of bed to go and pen the letter but Valerion couldn’t let him leave.

"Can you do that later? You have just come back to me and I want to hold you for a while." Valerion requested and Eamon let himself fall back into the dragon’s arms with a soft chuckle.

Pleasing his mate was his top priority and everything else could wait a while longer.

Tia and Eros stopped by in the afternoon after shooing Valerion away with the promise that Eamon was going to be safe with the six guards that were posted outside the house since the incident.

Valerion had reluctantly left his mate and headed to the royal house to help Ezekiel out with the on going search for the red dragon that had all the royals on edge.

"I am glad to see that you are looking much better Eamon." Tia smiled as she served tea and Eros got the biscuits from the oven.

"She came by every afternoon to check on you." Eros snitched on Tia as they sat on a small round table that was close to the sitting room.

"I appreciate both of you regularly checking up on me." Eamon smiled as he took a biscuit, glad to be eating chewable food again.

"If Valerion hadn’t given you his mark, you could have woken up two days from now. He did most of the work." Eros admitted once he caught Eamon’s eyes lingering on the fading bite mark on his wrist.

"Valerion told me about the mark. It’s going to disappear within the next two days." Eamon admitted, feeling a little sad that he couldn’t be able to sense what Valerion was feeling once the mark faded away.

Eamon felt connected to him in a way that was very intimate and he didn’t want that new connection to go away.

At the moment, his mate was heavily focused on something which Eamon guessed was finding the red dragon.

"I am guessing he didn’t tell you about the urge to renew the mark." Tia noted and Eros’ brow quirked up slightly in question.
