Chapter 64: Where is my mate?
Chapter 64: Where is my mate?
"The strong and mighty Valerion on his knees is surely a rare sight. I will leave your fragile human mate alone if you beg." The dragon that held the knife dangerously close to Eamon’s throat drawled and Valerion glared at him, memorizing the face of the first person he intended to hunt down and destroy if he survived the night.
"I am going to kill you." Valerion threatened instead and the dragon smiled maliciously, disregarding the threat.
"Probably in your next life because once we’re done with your precious little mate, we are going to kill you as well." He threatened as he pressed the knife closer to Eamon’s neck, making a small cut along his throat and Valerion lost it once he saw Eamon’s blood.
Somehow, he got the strength to break free from the dragons that held him and in a blink, he had his hands around the neck of the dragon that had hurt his mate.
"One step closer and I am going to snap his neck." Valerion hissed as his eyes closely watched the other four dragons.
His grip tightened when one of them stepped closer, chocking the dragon in his grip with a strength that threatened the rest.
His eyes were now a frightening shade of red from blood thirst and that managed to keep his attackers still for a while as they contemplated their next move.
Valerion was on edge but he tossed the lifeless body in his grip aside once he saw Ezekiel and Eros’ dragons flying towards the scene.
He dropped to his knees, kneeling beside Eamon’s body as the adrenaline that was rushing through his veins slowly wore off now that his mate was now safe.
The cut along Eamon’s neck was much deeper than he had thought and Valerion worried his mate had lost a large amount of blood as he felt his pulse that was a little too faint but Valerion was certain he was going to live.
After confirming that his mate was out of immediate danger, Valerion’s body that was severely wounded gave in and he held onto Eamon’s hand tightly as he slowly lost consciousness.
He had fought and protected his mate and that kept his heart beating within his chest.
Eamon was going to live and so was he.
Eros carefully carried Eamon into the house before flying to the nearest human settlement to get his friend a human doctor that could treat him.
Ezekiel had the remaining four dragons detained and once he was certain that his cousin was safely inside his house and his wounds were cleaned and dressed, he left to investigate what had happened.
Dragons attacking other dragons was a rare occurrence and usually signified a serious underlying issue that could have been overlooked.
It was a cause for concern and if Eros hadn’t noticed the bright orange flames from where they were at the party, Ezekiel hated to imagine what could have happened to Valerion and his mate if they hadn’t arrived on time.
....
Hours later, Valerion gasped as his eyes flew open and blankly looked at the familiar ceiling of his bedroom.
It was still dark and his body ached everywhere but all he could think about was Eamon.
"Valerion?" Eros’ familiar voice reached his ears as he struggled to sit up.
"Where is my mate?" Valerion asked as he stumbled out of bed, frustrated with the weakness in his legs as he leaned against a wall to keep himself from falling.
He strained his senses and his body seemed to relax when his nostrils picked up Eamon’s faint scent.
His mate was close by and all he knew was that he needed to find him.
"Eamon is in the next room." Eros replied as he moved to support the man that could barely walk.
"What time is it?" Valerion asked as he accepted his nephew’s support and together, they walked of the door.
"It’s 4am." Eros replied and Valerion grimaced slightly as he recalled the events that had occurred the previous day. He must have been severely injured to have passed out for five hours.
"Is Eamon okay?" He asked and his mood darkened when Eros took a while to reply.
"Has something happened to my mate?" Valerion’s voice was shaky as his eyes met Eros’ in a steady gaze.
"The human doctor I brought to check on him said he might need a blood transfusion to gain consciousness much faster but.... Eamon’s blood type is very rare and they cannot seem to find a donor." Eros explained and Valerion struggled to breath as his mind processed the news.
"In how many days could he regain consciousness if he receives a blood transfusion?" Valerion asked.
"Anywhere between a day to three. If he doesn’t receive blood, he might take five days or more to wake up." Eros explained and Valerion felt his world momentarily spin off it’s axis as he raked his mind for another solution.
There must be something he could do to heal his mate faster.
He increased his pace and once he was at Eamon’s bedside, Valerion delicately brushed the hair away from Eamon’s brow, not pleased with his completion that was much paler than was normal.
Eros stood at a distance, his heart arching for his uncle who was so clearly wrecked by pain as he held onto Eamon’s hand.
The idea of caring so deeply about someone else scared him and Eros hated the slight relief that flooded his entire being as he remembered he didn’t have a mate yet.
"I am going to mark him." Valerion’s low yet certain voice caught Eros off guard and his eyes widened a little as they met Valerion’s.
A mating mark was a sacred and deeply respected symbol that was only meant to be given if both partners consented. Eamon was unconscious and Eros hoped Valerion didn’t do anything that he could later regret.
"Don’t worry, I am not giving him the permanent mark." Valerion explained and the question was clear in Eros’ eyes.
What do you mean?
"There is an ancient way of temporarily connecting a dragon to another being in order to share things like faster healing or heightened senses. All I have to do is bite Eamon anywhere on his body as long as it’s not on his neck." Valerion explained and Eros was impressed with how fast his uncle thought.
He had heard of something similar being performed on dragons that were severely injured during battle and he hoped it could work on Eamon as well. The one thing that worried him was that he had never heard of the procedure being performed on a human.
"He is human." Eros gently pointed out and Valerion sighed softly, taking the statement into consideration. He could never do anything that could put Eamon in danger.
