Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 92: I... am Mrs. Warner

Chapter 92: I... am Mrs. Warner

’’Are we here already?"

’’Yes,’’ he replied.

Diana glanced at him helplessly, ’’What is it really about?"

’’You don’t trust me?" he raised a brow at her doubtful voice.

’’I trust you more than myself but that doesn’t mean that horror movies can’t happen in real life. Worse, what if we encounter bad guys? What if they are jealous of your beauty and try to ruin it? Or even worse, what if they fall in love with me and develop bad bad bad intentions for me and they take me away? My sister can get together with some man for baby making then anything is possible. You never know...’’ she blurted out her concerns without holding back but she stopped speaking when she realized that he was in a daze.

Maxim, who was still recovering from her casual ’I trust you more than myself’ cleared his throat when he felt her gaze on him, ’’Neither ghosts nor humans. I am not letting anyone take you away.’’

Diana’s face grew warm. She sneakily rubbed her palm on her chest. Those were her words but when he replied to them, why did they feel so... deep?

She bit her bottom lips. Mommy, I am officially losing it!

’’Then...’’ Her words were yet to finish when something sparkled in her eyes.

A small light lit up in the middle of the beach.

Diana turned her head towards it and her heart skipped a beat as a trail of lights lit up from the ground, making their way up until they formed the structure of what seemed like a gazebo. In the middle of the structure, there was a round table with beautiful flowers in the middle and two chairs on either side.

’’This is....’’

Maxim glanced at her widened eyes as she took in the sight of the place and the corner of his lips unconsciously tugged up.

He pulled her up in his arms as he walked towards the table before he placed her down.

Diana, who was still stunned, came back to her senses when Maxim squatted in front of her.

He took her heels from her hand and helped her put them.

Diana’s toes curled every time his fingers grazed on her skin.

She clutched the hem of her skirt, ’’Who initiates the breakup?"

’’What?" Maxim pushed himself to his feet as he glanced at her questioningly.

Diana closed her mouth.

She almost wanted to change the topic and say something else.

But when she looked at him again, she blurted, ’’I mean... I heard you have a lot of ex-girlfriends...’’ he quirked a brow and she hurriedly explained, ’’I am not being judgmental or gossipy or anything, I swear. I was just asking...I get such special treatment as a friend,’’ she shrugged a shoulder as she continued, ’’Then, they must be getting even better treatment. So, how does the ’ex’ part come into the picture...? I... As in... who initiates the breakup? After all, I... I can’t imagine...’’ any girl leaving you out of her own will.

When he looked at her flustered expression, Maxim chuckled.

Diana tilted her head to look at him. His dimples.

He lowered his head to look straight into her eyes, ’’Curious about my private life?"

"I was just stating the obvious, Boss,’’ Diana stuck out her tongue playfully before she continued marveling at the sight of the place, ’’Why are we here?"

’’What do you think?" Maxim pulled out a chair for her.

Diana took a seat as she rolled her eyes, ’’I get it. We are here for dinner.’’

’’Smart,’’ Maxim ruffled her hair and walked towards the other chair.

’’Hey, you can’t touch my hair...’’ Diana stroked her hair with the tips of her finger as she glared at him.

’’You started it.’’

’’You are a man. I am not. You don’t get to mess with a woman’s hair.’’

Maxim nodded as if the realization just dawned on him, ’’Of course, it slipped off my mind that you see me as a man now.’’

Diana: "_" Dear tongue, why did you not hold yourself back? Dear brain, were you dead when you said those words?

She wanted to pretend that she had amnesia and she forgot everything that happened yesterday but then, he was a doctor so it won’t end well.

While she was being nervous and fidgeting about it, Maxim did not think much about her words.

It was true that those were the same words that left him sleepless yesterday.

But then, Diana had always been like that. She could say the most romantic things in the most platonic way.

She could flirt without even knowing that she was flirting.

And while he was overthinking about it, those words might mean nothing to her.

He told himself that.

’’Mr. Warner,’’ A gruff voice snatched Diana’s attention.

She glanced towards the source of the voice and found a man in his late 40s standing there as he greeted Maxim. Behind him were a row of waiters and waitresses but her attention was back to the man leading them once again.

He...

Diana blinked a few times. She was not hallucinating, was she?

There was no way that he was...

’’Miss Chen?" When the man’s eyes met hers, there was a hint of confusion and recognition in them.

Diana’s lips parted, ’’I...’’ she grabbed Maxim’s hand without hesitation, ’’I am Mrs. Warner.’’

’’Cough...’’ Maxim, who had just taken a gulp of water from the glass choked on it, ’’Cough cough...’’

’’Baby, what happened?" she pinched his fingers.

’’Nothing,’’ Maxim was quick to nod at the chef who was standing in front of him, ’’My wife,’’ he said.

The man seemed surprised, ’’My bad. These old eyes...’’ he sighed, ’’You just looked familiar.’’

’’Very common face,’’ Diana pointed a finger at her face, ’’I have a very common face. You know you will find tens of people like me in the streets of Los Angeles,’’ she awkwardly waved her hand.
