Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 91: Fond of you
Chapter 91: Fond of you
In the end, Diana ended up facetiming Ivy and chatting with her and Angel to let Maxim drive in peace.
30 minutes later, Maxim opened the door for her after parking the car and a stretch of darkness greeted her vision.
The sound of crashing waves made her tilt her head to the side.
Sea?
’’Are we here for a walk on the beach?" she started pestering the man who closed the door and crossed the paved path as he walked on the seashore.
’’No.’’
She chased after the man, feeling the cold wind grazing on her skin.
Luckily, she was wearing a coat. She hugged it tighter, ’’Then? What are you being so mysterious for?’’ she grumbled.
Maxim did not bother responding.
Diana rolled her eyes, ’’So stingy,’’ Can’t he tell her what he was up to? ’’Atleast, give me a hint ah—’’
Diana grabbed Maxim’s elbow as her heels dug into the sand.
’’What’s wrong?" he held her shoulders and supported her.
Diana felt like her skin was electrocuted when his hands touched her.
Maybe it was the cold.
It had to be cold.
She staggered back from him, ’’N-Nothing,’’ she laughed awkwardly, ’’Nothing is wrong.’’
Maxim noticed her expression and he was more unconvinced, ’’Not feeling well?"
When he took a step towards her, she took three steps back as she exaggeratedly waved her hands, ’’How can I not? I am well. Absolutely well. I can’t tell you how well I feel....’’ Realizing the crap she was spouting, she promptly pursed her lips.
Ivy was such a bad influence, ’’It’s these heels...’’ Diana threw the complete blame on the original culprits as she took them off and held the straps in her hand, ’’They kept digging inside the sand so I lost balance earlier,’’ her toes curled as her bare feet touched the cold sand.
It sounded more unconvincing this time but Maxim looked at her for a long time.
’’And it’s your fault too. You kept walking so fast that I could not catch up...’’ Diana grumbled as they walked side to side this time with Maxim slowing his pace when he heard her words.
’’My bad,’’ the man said.
Diana stole a glance in his direction. It was dark but in the pale glow of moonlight, she could make out his features.
She was not short but without her heels, she barely seemed to reach his shoulder.
It took her back to the time when they met for the first time, ’’You were like a bunny back then...’’
’’Hmm?" he tilted his head down to meet her eyes.
’’When we first met,’’ Diana smiled, ’’You were so detached and defensive. Shorter than me. Adorable. The prettiest guy I had ever seen. Everything about you reminded me of a bunny so I got used to patting your hair...’’ her voice trailed off when his expression changed.
His face still looked the same and others could not spot anything. But she could see it in the way his jaws clenched slightly.
’’If you were that fond of bunnies, then you should have gotten yourself a real one.’’
Diana did not know if she was imagining it. His words felt frostier than the weather. But unlike her initial days, she no longer felt wary around him.
Maybe it was the open sky or the sound of waves that made her slightly courageous.
She stood up on her tiptoes and ruffled his hair without restraints.
Her random actions stunned the both.
Diana quickly retracted her hand, ’’It’s not bunnies I was fond of. It’s you,’’ she tucked the loose strands of her hair behind her ear.
’Thump’
Maxim’s gaze deepened. The chill in his heart was replaced with something so warm, ’’Is it?" he took a step towards her, towering over her body.
But she did not seem to have noticed his fluctuating emotions. She never did.
The girl looked at him with such trusting eyes as she nodded... it was as if he was the most harmless creature.
’Sneeze’
Diana rubbed the tip of her nose as she turned her face to the side.
Maxim’s expressions changed. He glanced at her bare feet and without continuing the conversation, he placed a hand around her shoulder and wrapped the other on the back of her knees before he picked her up in a princess carry.
Diana gasped, ’’What are you doing?" she struggled in his arms.
Maxim looked at her like she lacked common sense. His eyes seemed to tell her ’Duh. Carrying you, what else?’
Diana was speechless, ’’I am not a baby!" she screamed in frustration.
’’I am not a bunny,’’ he retorted calmly.
’’Oh but you are,’’ Diana stuck out her tongue but another gasp slipped her mouth when he bounced her up in his embrace, her arms wrapped around his neck as she hugged him tightly, ’’Don’t you dare throw me.’’
The man did not say anything.
Diana started probing again, ’’Where are we going?"
No response.
’’Atleast give me a hint.’’
No response.
’’Warner? Hello, you there?"
No response.
’’Maxim Bunny Warner, respond to me!’’
’’Shut up.’’
Diana smirked. Finally, a response, ’’Where are you taking me?"
No response.
Diana slumped in his arms like a wilted flower, ’’You are not going to feed me to sharks, are you?"
No response.
’’Tell Angel that I love her,’’ Diana said with a drawled-out sad sigh, ’’If you find Daisy, tell her that Angel said her first ’Ma... Ma’ to me so technically, I am her half-mother. And also...’’
’’Diana.’’
Hearing the warning in his voice, Diana stopped being dramatic as she stayed put obediently in his arms.
When Maxim’s footsteps came to a halt, Diana looked around quickly.
Even though she was being melodramatic earlier, she was genuinely curious about what he was being so mysterious about.
It took them a few minutes walk and yet, all she saw was darkness.
There were a few buildings in the distance and other than their silhouettes, there was nothing much.
