Chapter 77: You are wrong with me

’’I don’t know,’’ Diana closed her eyes. Heavens, pick her up.

’’Diana.’’

Diana did not respond to him.

"Diana," Maxim grabbed her wrist and twirled her towards himself such that she was facing him, ’’What is wrong with you?"

’’You!’’ Diana’s eyes snapped open, ’’You are wrong with me,’’ she panted.

A shred of confusion appeared in his eyes at her sudden outburst. What... did he do?

Diana was flustered immediately after she said that.

Diana pressed her hands on his chest and tried to push him away, ’’Just drop it.’’

But he held her other wrist and pulled her even closer, concern apparent in his eyes, ’’I am not dropping anything until you tell me what is wrong with you.’’

Diana looked at him helplessly, ’’I already did.’’

The corner of his lips twitched, ’’Elaborate.’’

Her eyes narrowed at his commanding voice, ’’What if I don’t?"

He raised a brow, ’’Then let’s sit here all night. Or for as long as you can before you decide to do it.’’

’’Fine with me,’’ Diana shrugged and even moved into a more comfortable position.

Maxim’s expression did not change as he continued, ’’I hope Angel doesn’t miss you much.’’

’’You...’’ Diana was about to vomit a mouthful of blood. This sly man... wasn’t he a doctor? Why did he have to act like a cunning businessman?

’’What’s wrong? Is there something bothering you?" There was a slight undertone of concern in his voice this time.

’’You.’’

’’Did I do something?" A rush of panic went through his head when he heard her words. Was she upset at him?

He ran through their recent interactions with each other but he could not come up with what he did to offend her.

Diana bit her bottom lips for a moment before she released them and whispered, ’’Lean towards me.’’

He was still holding her hands and keeping her in place to forbid her from moving.

Maxim leaned towards her without hesitation.

’’Look towards the backseat and close your eyes,’’ Diana softly said.

He looked at her questioningly but under her nonchalant gaze, he just turned his face to the side and closed his eyes.

Suddenly, he felt her warm breath tickling his neck and he stiffened at the sensation of her soft body gently grazing against his chest when she inched closer to him.

’’Remember the times when I said that I don’t see you as a man?" her fingers curled into fists just at the same time when she felt his grip tightening around her wrists.

’’Well, jokes on me, Warner because I have now started seeing you as a man,’’ Diana whispered next to his ear.

Her chest rose and fell by the end of the confession she made.

’Silence’

The longer the silence inside the car stretched, the faster Diana felt her heart beating.

The organ kept thudding against her ribcage as if it was ready to sprout outside and throw a pity party for her stupidity.

Maxim’s eyes fluttered open. And Diana felt like she was watching a tweaked version of sleeping beauty waking up after the magical kiss. IN SLOW MOTION.

She gulped.

She had almost pressed herself against him earlier so the moment he turned his face towards her, the tips of their noses almost grazed.

He did not back an inch and neither did she as she waited for his response.

His dark eyes looked at her quietly.

At this moment, a weird sound interrupted the silence in the car.

Diana followed the source of the noise and glanced at her stomach.

As if on cue, her stomach growled again. Her face flushed.

’’You are hungry,’’ Maxim released her wrists after a moment and leaned back into the driver’s seat.

His expressions gave nothing away.

Her face dropped slightly as a tingle of disappointment sprouted inside her heart.

What was she expecting for him to reply to her words?

’Oh, you see me as a man now? It’s my honor.’

’The whole female population seeing me as a man was obviously not enough at all. I was just waiting for you to do that.’

"I’m famished,’’ Diana leaned back on the passenger’s seat as she gazed out of the window.

She ate her breakfast decently then she skipped lunch and now here they were.

It would be surprising if she was not hungry but what came as a surprise was that suddenly, she had lost her appetite.

’’You want to dine out?"

"No.’’

Maxim nodded, ’’I will get Ivy to prepare food...’’

’’No, I can eat instant noodles,’’ she softly said.

Maxim pursed his lips, ’’Not good for health.’’

’’Just like you,’’ Diana mumbled in a barely audible voice.

It was unknown whether Maxim heard her words or not until he spoke up, ’’Are you flirting with me?"

Diana gasped, ’’No...I...’’

’’How was work?" Maxim switched the topic calmly as he shifted his attention to the road.

Diana felt like she was a small cat suddenly experiencing the highs and lows of life.

’’It was a new experience,’’ she said softly, ’’Not bad.’’

’’You are not going to ask me about anything?"

’’What am I supposed to ask you?" she glanced at him.

’’Near the elevator...’’

Good lord. He did see her there when she was eavesdropping on his conversation with his ex-girlfriend, ’’Look, it was an accident,’’ she had caused herself enough embarrassment for the day. No more now, ’’I was passing by and I saw you two together so I was just retreating quietly to not make it awkward. I am not curious about anything and as I told you before, your private life has nothing to do with me.’’

But she did not notice the way Maxim’s grip on the steering wheel tightened, ’’That’s right,’’ he said.

She pursed her lips and turned her face to the side.
