Chapter 76: Get in

She locked the door.

Diana’s footsteps slowed down when she reached the elevator.

Her palm flew to cover her mouth and she immediately pressed herself behind the wall.

In front of the elevator, Maxim was standing with a woman.

Diana recognized the woman in an instant.

She was the ex-girlfriend with whom Maxim went to the cafe where Diana bumped into him.

Her long black hair was tied in a high ponytail today and much to Diana’s surprise, the woman was wearing the doctor’s coat.

Diana immediately thrust herself back to the wall as she closed her eyes instinctively.

’’You...’’ Diana was about to snap at the driver who kept honking but the profanities lodged back into her throat the moment she saw who it was.

Her face flushed slightly as she looked around, ’’What are you doing? Someone will spot us." People would find him crazy if they saw him acting this way.

Maxim quirked a brow, ’’We are not secretly married.’’

He followed her and leaned closer to her.

Maxim tilted his chin towards the passenger seat as he placed his hand on the roof.

Diana gulped before she stepped inside the car, chastising herself for being over-sensitive.

After a few torturously quiet minutes, the man who liked silence decided that he could not take it anymore, ’’Diana.’’

Diana stiffened when something warm drawled down her body in a gentle caress.

The car had reached an empty road.

Maxim opened his mouth but then closed it.

She did not say anything either.

The woman did not even bother to ask him why he called her.

Maxim’s eyes narrowed, ’’Why are you avoiding me?"

’’I am not...’’ Diana started defensively as she turned to look at him but she trailed off under his scrutinizing gaze.

’’You proposed that we become friends again so do explain what your hot and cold attitude means,’’ Maxim coldly said.

I proposed to you before my hormones short-circuited and decided to go haywire around you.

She curled up in the passenger seat quietly, ’’Aren’t you the same?’’ she mumbled.

Maxim stepped on the brakes as he turned towards her, putting all his attention on the woman who kept avoiding his gaze, ’’How am I the same?"
