Chapter 78: Beauty sleep gone
The moment Diana and Maxim entered the mansion, they saw an excited Ivy hopping out of Diana’s room followed by an expressionless Logan.
’’Dee, you are back,’’ Ivy pounced on Diana.
Maxim’s lips twitched.
After treating Diana as a human teddy for another long minute, Ivy stepped back from her and grabbed her shoulders as she drawled, ’’Guess what...?"
Maybe she was infected by Ivy’s excitement but Diana’s mood lightened up too.
She momentarily forgot about her strange encounter with Maxim back in the car, and everything else that put her in a complicated mood throughout the day.
’’What is it?" She could not contain her laughter as she looked at Ivy who seemed to hold herself back from dancing.
Ivy did a beautiful twirl on her toes, ’’Guess~?"
Diana was surprised when she saw that beautiful arc-like movement. She had taken dance classes since she was 4 so she realized that Ivy’s movement was like that of a professional.
But her thoughts were interrupted by the girl’s question, ’’If I knew, why would I ask you?" Diana pouted.
Maxim glanced at Logan questioningly but Logan was looking at Ivy like she was a questionable creature.
’’Our Angel....’’ Two hearts popped in Ivy’s eyes as she said, ’’...flipped her body and crawled for the first time today!"
Diana gasped, ’’Oh my god,’’ To think Angel did it the very same day she left for work.
Diana felt like she missed a lot of things today.
As she rushed towards her room, Ivy followed her as well, ’’She just dozed off after she exhausted herself. But I have recorded it for you.’’
Look at their retreating backs, a frown formed between Logan’s brows, ’’Is it that much of a big deal?"
Maxim was quiet for a moment before he uttered a ’’Yes.’’
’’How?" Logan turned to look at his current employer and friend, ’’Which child in the world does not crawl?" He would have appreciated their excitement had they realized that Angel was born with superpowers or something.
Maxim shrugged a shoulder, ’’It depends,’’ When it comes to people you care for, every small lift of their finger matters to you.
But he kept his thoughts to himself. Logan might be an intelligent man but his EQ worked in reverse. So, talking to him about emotional things would only backfire on him. Maxim looked at the half-ajar door of Diana’s room for a moment before he walked upstairs.
’Jokes on me, Warner because I have now started seeing you as a man’ those words echoed in his head as he unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt before sitting on the couch.
’’Dee, Dee, what do you want to eat? Dee! Dee!"
Maxim turned to gaze at the parrot who had changed his accent from ’Lewd Master’ to ’Ivy’s chatter’ lately.
’What is wrong with you?’
’You are wrong with me’ Diana’s words intruded his mind again and he raked his fingers through his hair, letting out a tired sigh.
Maxim tilted his head to look at the ceiling. At the count of 1 to 10, he pushed himself to his feet and walked towards the bathroom, looking like a man who was totally unbothered by the chaos that a certain someone brought with her when she crashed into his life yet again.
...
The four of them had dinner together.
As usual, Logan was like a wood that was accidentally carved into a human being.
Maxim barely spoke unless he was spoken to.
And given her recent encounters with Maxim, Diana was also not her usual cheery self.
So, the dinner could have gone wrong.
Catch—Could have.
But it did not go wrong because of Ivy.
Ivy was such a chatterbox that even if the remaining three people were quiet, she could easily carry on a conversation by herself.
And that loosened Diana’s nerves so she chatted a bit as well.
After dinner, Ivy grabbed Diana’s hand and sneakily pulled her away from the men as she said, ’’Dee, are you angry? It slipped off my mind because I was excited about Angel baby but now, I remember...’’ she trailed off.
Diana knew what Ivy was talking about.
Ivy had known all about Hazel’s plans and she had collaborated with Maxim’s mother so that Diana would agree to the job.
Diana did not understand why Maxim’s mother put so much efforts to help her. But then again, she was a sweet lady and she had always loved her so her actions were not that surprising.
’’It’s okay, Ivy. I am not angry,’’ she patted her back.
Diana could have overreacted because of the way they tricked her but at the end of the day, she felt warm that someone in this world would put so much efforts just to help her.
People usually do not bother to appreciate such small yet sweet gestures and take them for granted but for someone like Diana who had craved care and warm attention since she was young, it was another novel experience.
Just like her first job.
She patted Ivy’s head when the girl looked like she was about to cry, ’’Just don’t lie to me in the future.’’
’’Bohooo... Dee, you are the best,’’ Ivy pounced on Diana as she exclaimed, ’’If I liked women or if I was a man, I would have married you right this instant.’’
Diana did not know whether to laugh or cry.
’Crash’
Both the women turned towards the source of the noise as they glanced at the two men who were standing at a little distance from them.
A shattered glass remained on the floor. It was unknown who dropped it.
Maxim glanced at Logan, ’’You should have handled it carefully,’’ he said in a nonchalant tone before he turned around and left.
Logan stood there looking at Maxim’s retreating back with narrowed eyes.
...
The clothes Diana brought today were all delivered to the mansion so she grabbed a silk nightgown and got changed into it.
By the time her head hit the pillow, Diana knew that she was going to slump like a dead body. She did not even have the patience for her daily night reading habits.
But her dreams of beauty sleep were flushed down the drain when Angel started bawling around midnight.
