Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 69: She is not working here

Chapter 69: She is not working here

The old man was close to his mother and he treated her like a daughter. He would not think twice before doing her a favor but that did not mean he will not chastise Diana.

But the scene that he was expecting was entirely different from the scene that he witnessed.

The old man was laughing like there was a live comedy show.

Maxim’s gaze drifted to Diana. Although she was not laughing or giggling, he could sense the genuine happiness emanating around her.

Diana was dressed in a simple green blouse which was paired with a white pencil skirt. Her long hair was tied in a high ponytail.

He remembered her words during breakfast today.

’I am going to go shopping before I attend the interview,’ she had told Ivy who had looked excited.

He had wanted to ask her to let him tag along to her interview just in case there was a repetition of last time’s situation.

That pair of grandson-grandmother did not dare to escalate the issue after Logan laid out all their cards and the old woman sent her grandson abroad to let him cultivate his morals.

Maxim could not bother to care about any of them as long as they were not a threat to Diana.

He could not stop worrying about her so he asked Logan to be there to protect her just in case she needed help. And the man had been extra quiet.

Earlier, it had not made sense why Ivy would be so excited about Diana’s job. But now, everything made sense after he talked to his mother. They were all in cahoots.

Diana had been ignoring him since their last encounter yesterday. Not ignoring. But she was keeping her words brief and tone clipped. It bothered him.

And the fact that it bothered him was bothering him even more.

Maxim was certain that he was playing by the rules then why the heck was she even upset? It’s fine if she was upset but what’s up with her dry ’Hello. Good Morning. Have a nice day’ and that super dazzling polite smile paired with it?

Did she think he was Angel Part 2 who needed to be cooed with the wide smile she plastered even when she did not feel like smiling?

Maxim snapped out of his reverie when silence reigned in the Director’s room.

’’Boy, usually, I made appointments to get you here but you stood me up. What happened now? Why are you barging here without an invitation?" Old Master Qin clicked his tongue in disdain, ’’And you look like you were being chased by ghosts," he added suspiciously.

Diana had heard the door being pushed and she knew that someone had barged inside the director’s room.

Yet since the old man was laughing in a carefree manner, she believed there were no issues.

But his words made her curious now.

She tilted her head to the side and from the corner of her eyes, she saw Maxim standing there quietly. He was wearing a black shirt paired with grey trousers and while the shirt was buttoned up fully, the sleeves were folded giving her a glimpse of his veined forearm and Rolex watch—

’Pak’

Diana threw a tight slap across her face. MENTALLY.

She was losing her sanity. OFFICIALLY.

Shaking her head, she glanced at him and this time, he looked at her.

Their eyes met.

And suddenly the air around her was charged with electricity.

She hurriedly averted her gaze and briefly nodded at him before turning her back towards him.

While the credit for Maxim’s success went to his skills and knowledge but the reason he was strangely popular in his field and even got interviewed in the past was because of some of his rare research and successful surgeries.

Diana had come across them and the name of the hospital he was at was obviously mentioned.

But it was not this hospital so when she came here, she never doubted that she would cross paths with him nor did she think that the job offer had anything to do with Maxim or his mother. That bizarre thought had not even crossed her mind until Old Master Qin told her who asked for this favor.

But now that the situation turned out like this, she decided to play it cool and act as strangers here.

It was after all his workplace. The more formal, the better.

It would be better if no one knew that they knew each other.

’’Boy, I am talking to you,’’ Old Master Qin let out a frustrated sigh as he leaned back on the chair. The woes of the younger generation.

Hallelujah!

Nobody knew what these people thought.

’’She is not working here,’’ were the first words that came out of Maxim’s mouth. Those were followed by, ’’It was a miscommunication on my mom’s part.’’

Diana stiffened in her seat. Didn’t he get her clue? Why wasn’t he pretending to be a stranger?

And why would she not work here?

While Diana did not know why or on what basis Maxim’s mother recommended her this job. But she was thankful.

After Old Master Qin told her about it, she felt like wanting to give that lady more hugs when she met her.

And surprisingly, after he discovered her identity, the old man was more than willing to give her this job so that she could gain experience and learn things over time.

But the initial words he said when he did not recognize her were still imprinted in her mind. She did not want a job relying on anyone’s favors hence she asked him to do a generic interview.

The old man was stunned but he followed her wishes.

Half an hour later, here they were. He was shocked when she answered his basic questions and he increased the difficulty.

Then finally, she revealed her qualifications to him. He was so surprised that he burst into laughter and even indulged in self-mockery for lecturing her earlier.
