Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 68: Moronic son

Chapter 68: Moronic son

’’I am dead serious, Maxim Warner. My daughter-in-law is finally here with you. It is fate. If you don’t know how to grab the opportunity then let mommy do it for you.’’

Maxim placed the file down as he grabbed his phone with a shred of annoyance growing on his face, ’’Don’t meddle, Mom. There is nothing between us and she has a situation.’’

’’I know everything,’’ Maxim’s brows tugged together as the woman continued speaking, ’’I was doubtful about all of it so I made Logan and Ivy spill everything. Ivy has a loose mouth when her video games are involved and Logan, well, everytime his lips twitched at Ivy’s words, it was just like a non-verbal confirmation that it was all the truth.’’

Maxim was not even shocked. The people around him were more like blood-sucking mosquitoes. More harm, less help.

’’So, baby, Mommy did you a favor here. For the sake of my future grandchildren, I abandoned my pride and asked your grumpy director to hand her a job that she was looking for. The old man said I will have to play chess with him 30 times in exchange. It is too much of my shopping time but little Ana is worth it all...’’

’’Mom, what did you do again?" Maxim cut her off as soon as he came back to his senses.

There was a pause on the other side before Hazel said, ’’Ivy told me that she needed a job so I made these arrangements. It will help her and your progress both—’’

"Mom,’’ Maxim cut her off, sounding exasperated this time, ’’There is no progress between her and me. She needed help and I was there. We progressed and became friends again....’’

’’You will progress further and roll in bed and make babies,’’ Hazel nonchalantly said, ’’Baby, which colored dress should I wear on your wedding day? Will you go with the fairytale theme?"

Maxim choked on air, ’’No,’’ he massaged his forehead, ’’We are friends. That’s where it stops. You should stop watching those dramas. And you didn’t have to do that.’’

There was another pause on the other side before Hazel spoke up, ’’Do what? I just wanted to help Little Ana find a job—’’

Maxim interrupted her, ’’Do you think she is any less capable than me? Do you think she needs you to find a job for her or do her a favor?" When his mother did not speak, he continued, ’’She has always been an outstanding person, mom. Put her educational qualifications aside. Even if she was not well educated, she would still go to the top just based on her wits and instincts. She needs no one.’’

’’I know how good she is. You don’t have to show off your wife in front of me,’’ Hazel grumbled.

Maxim was speechless. There was no point arguing with her over his relationship dynamics with Diana so he focused on the main point, ’’Since you know everything, you should know the reason why she is having trouble finding a decent job. With a baby, she can’t go out on a daily basis.’’

’’But...’’

’’Mom, even if she had to go out, do you think she would come to work at a hospital? She is not a medical student and this is the largest hospital in LA where even the receptionist... Hell, they would corner her and even if the director is doing you a favor, he would still not be happy with giving this job, whatever job it is, to Diana. She would be targeted by everyone!" Maxim raked his fingers through his hair as he let out a soft sigh.

’’But Max...’’

Maxim interrupted her again, ’’Even if we ignore all that, do you think Diana will ever work here? In between the rush, crowd, blood, patients, the hospital, and the emergencies of life and death... she will be suffocated. She is a princess, mom. Do you know the last job she chose for herself? She wanted to work at a library, a place full of peace, doing things she loved, in between books.’’

’’I heard from Ivy but...’’

’’But you still don’t get it? She is sheltered and adored princess who is used to wearing nice dresses and maybe walking on flowers. Hell, I even feel like the sun shines more when it looks her way,’’ Maxim dragged a palm down his face, not knowing what crap he was spouting, ’’I don’t know how she ended up here in these circumstances. But I have been looking for a job that would provide her with the most comfort. She would never work—’’

’’Let me speak, you unfilial son!’’ Hazel snapped, ’’It seems like I am not the one who doesn’t know Little Ana well. It’s you. You don’t know her at all. If she is really like what you are describing her to be, then why is she sitting in the Director’s office as we speak? I just received the text before I called you. What a moron you are!" she hung up.

"_" Maxim quietly glanced at his phone.

Till now, it was his mother who always managed to rile him up but it looks like he was getting on her lately.

The words she said resounded in his mind again and again and again and before he knew it, he turned around and walked out of his office.

Given the director’s nature, he will be annoyed with Diana for using connections to land this job.

But it was not even her fault. She was clueless about the whole fiasco.

’’Just hang in there, Ana...’’ he mumbled unconsciously as he slipped his phone into his pockets, not even realizing the old nickname that rolled off his tongue.

Once he reached there, Maxim did not bother to knock on the door as he pushed it open and stepped inside.

’’Bwahahaha...’’ the sound of loud laughter greeted his ears.

He froze.

He was expecting a scene of the old man chastising Diana terribly about using connections to get a job.
