Chapter 67: Hook up

The old man sitting in front of her should be the head of the Qin Family. Unlike her family, the Qins were more low-key and mysterious. It was not an everyday occurrence that they gave interviews or became the trending topic on the internet.

’’Everyone here in this hospital is qualified enough for their jobs and this is the first time I am accepting a business student in this hospital. I will not beat around the bush. Look, girl, I am doing this as a favor to someone,’’ the old man’s voice was laced with displeasure as he spoke.

’’Grandpa Qin,’’ Diana blinked, slowly recovering her senses.

The man raised his head when he heard that. He adjusted his glasses and glanced at her with hawk-like eyes, clearly surprised by the way she addressed him, ’’You know me?"

’’You can’t recognize me?" Diana stepped forward, pointing her fingers at her face as she glanced at the old man who used to visit their mansion when she was younger.

He was a close friend of her late paternal grandfather.

’’Girl, are you trying to churn benefits from me by acting like family? Look, giving you this job despite you not fitting the criteria is the most I can do. This is a hospital where everyone is mainly focused on saving lives but still, there will be employees who will try to corner you in their idle time,’’ the old man put a finger forward, swaying it from left to right, ’’And I am not going to do anything about that. Deal with that on your own.’’

’’Umm... I am Diana,’’ Diana speechlessly said.

’’I know. I called your name.’’

’’My father is Helian Chen. You used to visit our mansion with candies for me and my sister, Daisy when we were younger,’’ she decided to give him a long intro this time.

The old man froze for a moment as he squinted his eyes to look at her properly, ’’How could it be...?" he mumbled as if he was in doubt. Although the familiar name had a ring to it...’’Old Chen’s granddaughter? You were still tiny the last time I saw you,’’ he did not seem to believe her.

"_" It has been years since then. Was I supposed to stay the same?

’’It has been years after all,’’ Diana bowed to the man as she watched the recognition sinking on his face, ’’It is nice to meet you.’’

’’You... Come here. Girl, sit sit,’’ the old man excitedly waved his hand as the gears in his head started turning.

The person who asked him for this favor... was thinking the same thing as him? Aiyoo, his old mind took ages to function decently.

Although they had a lot of catching up to do, the first thing that Diana told the old man was, ’’My parents do not know that I am here in the US,’’ Her and her elder sister were always close to her paternal grandparents and their friends but after they passed away, their friends barely visited.

Her father did not have time for his own family so it was a farfetched idea for him to invite these elders over. But, given how much her father loved profits, she believed that he must have kept in touch with them because speaking from her father’s perspective, all these people were influential and can be a good asset in times of need.

’’Don’t worry. I am not in touch with that raccoon father of yours,’’ the old man waved his hand. Although he looked curious but he did not ask why she was there.

Diana’s lips twitched. Must be the first time someone called her father a raccoon.

’’Can you tell me who asked for the favor?" Diana asked him after a moment of hesitation.

Looking at the girl’s expectant face, the old man’s heart softened. He did not have a granddaughter but he had always seen his friend’s granddaughters as his own.

After his friend and his wife passed away in an unfortunate accident, he never visited these children because he was heartbroken by his friend’s death, and looking at them reminded him of the loss.

Over time, he got caught up in his own work and family and he drifted away from the Chen family.

The old man snapped out of his daze when Diana called out to him, ’’I can tell you,’’ he smiled at her like a fox.

Diana felt like she was sitting on thorns, ’’Uh... do you want something in return?" That foxy smile made goosebumps spread on her skin.

’’Hmm, nothing much,’’ the old man stroked his beard, ’’What can I possibly want? Just don’t tell the person that I told you.’’

Diana glanced at him suspiciously but she still nodded in the end.

’’Mom, stop it,’’ Maxim massaged his forehead as he entered his office.

’’What did you take me for, a fool?" Hazel’s annoyed voice rang from the other side of the phone, ’’You will tell me that you and little Ana are together and I will buy it?"

’’Mom, there was a situation,’’ Maxim said, putting his phone between his ear and shoulder as he picked up the file of the patient he was going to operate on later this day.

’’Of course, I knew it right then. I pretended along with you because I could see that Little Ana wanted me to believe that. I did not want to scare her away. Ugh! With your capabilities, do you think you can have that sweet girl for yourself? The highest goal you can make is those cake-faced models whose bones nearly cut my eyes and the doctors who look like they are about to go on a fashion show. My angelic Ana is way out of your league.’’

’’We are friends,’’ Maxim flipped the page calmly.

’’Yes yes, look at that attitude. You think she would ever hook up with you if you keep that attitude.’’

A vein on his forehead throbbed. Which mother would tell their son about how a girl would hook up with them? "I am serious.’’
