Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 66: Familiar face

Chapter 66: Familiar face

Daisy swung Diana’s hand around her shoulder, clearly noticing how her little sister stiffened at the mention of her ex-Prince Charming.

’’I know you did not end up on good terms,’’ Daisy said, her voice hardening at the sight of a drop of blood trickling down her forehead.

’’I am just trying out new things. But if I do meet him there, I can maybe try to talk to him or whatever,’’ Diana shrugged casually.

Daisy smiled, ’’Let me clean your wounds. Also, you are coming with me to my place. It is not as grand as this castle but chairs don’t fly around there.’’

Diana glared at her.

Daisy laughed but her voice had no mirth. The sight of that half-wrecked chair had sent chills down her spine.

If parents were supposed to be like this, then they were better off being orphans.

The cold war between her and Daisy gradually disappeared as they started leaving together.

Her mother had left her countless texts but Diana did not check them. She loved the woman and she pitied her too.

But at this point in her life, she would have ended up pitying herself if she did not seek space.

...

It was her first day in medical school today.

And somehow, her anticipation for this new experience was high.

While part of it was a lie that she told others but she truly did want to experience this. It has been some time since she dropped the novel she was writing.

Maybe her passion did not lie there and she would find it here?

With many hopes in her heart, the first thing she did was look for Maxim. He had promised her that he will come to Beijing’s greatest medical school after graduation.

And she knew he stuck to his words.

But it was not until hours later did Diana realize how much of a fool she had been to believe words that were spoken on impulse.

No registers had his name recorded.

Maxim was not here in Beijing after graduating.

And she had been too naive to have expectations from that friendship that had broken a year ago.

*Flashback ends*

Artemis Hospital and Research Center.

Diana glanced at the tall building in front of her as she removed the shades from her eyes.

She had received a mail from this hospital yesterday.

And it had astounded her. Nobody knew about her qualifications. At least, not in the US. And this was no small hospital.

In Beijing, the incident of the great Helian Chen’s daughter announcing her change of career track was pretty famous back in the elite circle. But it was not that chaotic because her father had suppressed that news.

While the reason why she joined medical school was not there, but she still finished her studies with utmost seriousness.

As long as Diana was serious about something, she gave it her whole. And medical school was one of those things. Except, she did not finish her residency years.

Diana raised her right hand and glanced at the small tattoo on the corner of her wrist. It was a small heart, but not a pretty tattoo with delicate lines. It was a heart scribbled in messy lines.

That day was her last effort to reach out to Maxim. Over the years, she did miss him but she had believed that he did not want her in his life anymore.

And she decided to not badger him anymore. If he came back, she would still accept him with open arms and they would go back to being good friends. She had thought.

He never came back. She never looked for him.

But she did see the articles about his first successful research, one of his complicated surgeries that had attracted a lot of attention. Knowing that he was in a better place in life, gave her peace. She felt like she had erased herself into their broken friendship.

It was until that night that she saw him again. Unable to control herself, she ruffled his hair just like she had done the first time they met.

If she was not holding Angel in her arms, she would have pounced on him. Lucky for her that she didn’t do that.

Because when he treated her like a stranger... it hurt more than she had expected.

Diana sighed as she glanced at the hospital in front of her eyes again.

After taking a deep breath, she stepped inside.

’’Are you sure you were supposed to bring me here?" Diana asked the receptionist who had left her desk to escort her to the Director’s room.

’’Yes,’’ the girl nodded before she turned around and left.

After she left, Diana glanced at the Director’s room.

What kind of interview was this? She was even being given special treatment?

There is no way her identity has been revealed, right?

But if not, why would she be treated this way? Did the director need her to do illegal business here?

Was that why he was hiring his doctors so mysteriously?

Drugs? Mafia?

Would she find a hot man sitting on a throne chair who might confess that he fell in love with her at first sight?

Or would she find an old lady telling her that there were secrets in this hospital that needed her attention?

Diana pursed her lips. The creativity of her mind gave her nothing other than anxiety.

She knocked on the door twice.

’’Come in, Miss Chen.’’

An old voice came from inside.

Diana froze. How did they...? She did not register her full name on the job hunting website and the email address she had dropped there only had her first name so how did they know their full name?

Were her parents involved in this...?

Diana gulped.

She pushed open the door and stepped inside, only to be greeted by the sight of a familiar face.

There was an old man sitting on the swivel chair as he focused on the laptop on the desk.

She checked his nameplate to make sure that she was not seeing things.

Qin Xifeng.

Her lips parted.

Her family was one of the most prominent families on the mainland. Her father was a famous Chinese businessman who came from a political background, her mother was an American heiress to a prestigious military family. Their marriage was a high-profile business deal under the guise of a fairytale romance.

...

*Note—For anyone wondering, the tattoo she has is similar to the BTS heart tattoo. Irregular arcs but you can make out the heart shape.
