Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 63: Last exam

Chapter 63: Last exam

On her way back home, Diana’s head kept wandering off to her family affairs, to her mother’s recent kindness, to Maxim’s words, to the upcoming exams and the anxiety kept bubbling in her heart.

She barely ate anything yet the food threatened to rip her throat and make a reappearance.

She felt like throwing up the more she thought about everything.

She massaged her fingers, taking out her phone to call Daisy.

But the call was automatically disconnected.

Oh, how did she forget? Everyone liked to block her these days.

It was like she was a bother to them.

She closed her eyes and leaned back on the car seat, a bitter smile making its way onto her face.

The consequent days went on no matter how much she wanted the time to stop so that she would not have to drag her depressed ass out of the bed.

But wishes like those were so surreal. She was not Cinderella and she had no fairy godmother to fulfill her wishes.

All she had was herself. She needed to give her a pep talk, do her usual classy makeup, expensive outfit, and perfect stilettos, and there it goes... Diana Chen was ready to take over the world.

Or at least pretend.

Or worse, cancel all that makeup dress-up shit because she did not feel like it.

It was the day of the last exam when Diana steeled her heart to go and talk it out with Maxim.

Whatever it was, if he was angry, he would have to say it to her face instead of talking behind her back.

She would let him slap her. Then, she would slap him back and they can call it even then.

She was sick of this hide-and-seek and ignoring games that they have been playing over the course of the past month.

Or has it been more than a month already? God knows.

She was already thankful enough that she could still differentiate between day and night.

She sighed softly.

It was his last exam too. He was graduating early and there was no way Diana wanted to leave this fight unresolved.

’’Hey, have you seen Warner?" she stopped near a girl, who was apparently the leader of Maxim’s Fanclub.

And this girl generally had all updates about Maxim. She knew which color water bottle Maxim drank water from after playing football, she knew how much meat Maxim put on her plate when they ate together, and she knew the number of times Maxim smiled or spoke. She literally knew everything Maxim did inside the campus. And she was the person responsible for relaying all these important informations to the remaining plebs who worshiped His Majesty.

Yes, Maxim’s fame in this university was nothing less than that of celebrities. He was the broody, mysterious, gorgeous as sin senior of all these little princesses who were waiting for him to walk up to them and choke one of their lucky throats before saying, ’You. Belong. to. Me’. And in return, they want to respond with a, ’Only you. I belong to only you.’

Diana was not exaggerating it. She had literally read all those posts that they had made about Maxim. They even wrote fan fiction for him over the years.

There were other famous guys at this university. Some rich young masters, sports stars, cute studs but Maxim... well, was in another league.

The thought of it made her want to roll her eyes at other times but at this moment, her eyes felt too stiff to be able to roll. A few tears might leak from here and there so she stayed put.

The girl looked at her in confusion, ’’Diana?" she asked after some time.

Diana blinked. She looked pathetic. She knew it but she did not know that she had reached a level where her face was unrecognizable.

She was wearing an oversized black hoodie paired with baggy jeans that reached her ankle. Her outfit hid all her curves decently and she looked like a high school student probably. Her usual heels were replaced by converse shoes with laces that were not even properly tied.

Her mid-length blond hair was dry, and rough and have not been washed for weeks, hence, quietly sitting in a messy bun. And her face, well, sleep deprived, smile deprived, happiness deprived, and deprived of every bit of sunshine which left the pallor on her skin.

She was not even wearing her precious babies. All her diamond accessories were sitting at home.

If her mom saw her current appearance, the woman might go back on her word of trying to be a good mother and hang her upside down right this instant.

Diana smiled bitterly, ’’Are my dark circles so prominent that you cannot even recognize me?"

’’No, you...’’ the girl looked embarrassed, ’’I was just caught off guard,’’ Although she said that, but her eyes were screaming ’you are not in your socialite butterfly getup. It is hard to recognize you’.

Diana smiled, ’’It is okay. Where is Warner... I mean Maxim...? Have you seen him by any chance?"

’’Oh, he is in the library,’’ the girl’s brows tugged together as if she thought about something distasteful, which Diana was certain could never be Maxim. The girl’s consequent words proved her assumptions to be right, ’’He is there with our bitchy campus belle...’’

The girl’s words were yet to be over when Diana rushed in the direction of the library.

Diana had a mild argument with that campus belle during her initial university years.

Her classmates told her that the campus belle was jealous of her wealthy background and branded clothes and she was afraid that Diana would snatch her position. But Diana had no intentions of participating in any such beauty pageants here.

Moreover, things looked beautiful from afar. When zoomed in, all the flaws would show up. So, she never believed someone would be jealous of her for anything. Her life was far from the perfect image she projected.

Diana forgot about those clashes but that girl took it upon her ego and threw jabs at her every time they crossed paths.

She seemed to hate Maxim too because he hung out with her most of the time. With what plan is she approaching him right now?
