Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 311: With marriage in mind

Chapter 311: With marriage in mind

After freshening up, Diana stood in front of the mirror as she fixed her hair.

Maxim walked up to Diana and hugged her from the back, ’’I have ordered the breakfast.’’

’’So sweet of you," Diana teased, looking at their reflections in the mirror.

He met her gaze, ’’I will go get some coffee for you in the meantime.’’

She raised an eyebrow and turned around, wrapping her arms around his neck, ’’Aren’t you being a bit too sweet, Mr. Warner?"

’’I have my motives,’’ he shrugged a shoulder.

She was amused, ’’Motives? What motives?"

’’To get my Mrs. Warner.’’

Diana was stunned. After a few seconds, her face turned red, ’’You... What makes you think that I will marry you?"

’’The fact that little Diana had her eyes set on me since the first day she saw me.’’

’’Little Diana was delusional,’’ Diana’s face turned into a deeper shade of red, ’’She did not know what she wanted.’’

She thought she had a crush on him but then they became friends, and then she believed that she just liked him as a person. Her younger self had to be the most confused child ever.

Maxim chuckled.

Diana lowered her head for a moment before she tilted it and looked into his eyes, ’’There is something that I haven’t told you.’’

’’Hmm?"

’’I... Yesterday...’’ Diana looked to the side.

Maxim held her palms, stroking them gently as he spoke, ’’If there is something on your mind, you don’t have to think twice before telling me. You know that, right?"

She inhaled a deep breath before she opened her mouth to speak, ’’When you only mean the best for someone but then you realize that you are reasons for all their worsts, how would you feel?"

Maxim patiently waited for her to continue speaking, giving her the tie she needed

’’You failed to get admission here. Hazel lost her job. All those bad things happened with you not because you were down on luck but because I was your bad luck. I got to know that it was my mother all along who did it to keep you away from me,’’ her eyes turned red, a drop of tear rolling down her cheeks as she whispered, ’’I am the reason you suffered all along. And I did not know how to stay with you after knowing this fact. I did not know how to look you in the eyes and not drown myself in self-blame and guilt for the things that you went through. And I did not know how to tell you about this without making you hate me. So, I thought... I thought I should just stay away from you but I can’t even do that. I...’’

’’I knew,’’ Maxim cut her off, releasing her palms.

Her eyes widened.

He raised his hand and wiped her tears, ’’When I came to Beijing back then, I had overheard the conversation between the authorities saying that I must have offended someone for them to take such measures against me. I overheard the surname and I had the guess in my mind.’’

Diana blinked.

’’So, you see Ana. It doesn’t matter. I am where I was supposed to be and so are you. We are here, right with each other. The past never bothers me when I know that you are my present and the future. And I don’t know what makes you think anything in this world would ever make me hate you. I am incapable of that and I thought you should know that."

’’But...’’

’’Shh,’’ Maxim pressed a finger on her lips, ’’What others do is never your fault. It doesn’t matter even if they are your parents. You are all that matters to me.’’

Before she could say anything or before she could even overthink, he cupped her face and kissed her forehead, ’’I will go get coffee for you.’’

The warmth of that kiss seemed to have spread to her chest as she stood there, looking at his retreating back.

The moment Maxim opened the door, he was greeted by two unfamiliarly familiar faces. But it did not take him long to figure out their identities when he saw the striking resemblances of the man and woman to Daisy and Diana.

Alice, who had raised her hand to knock on the placed it down when the door opened from inside. Her face turned ashen at the sight of Maxim.

’’What happened? Why have you not left yet...’’ Diana trailed off when she saw her parents, the pleasant expressions on her face doing a subtle shift as she frowned.

...

The four people sat in the restaurant area of the hotel, looking out of the glass walls as the waiter served them breakfast.

While both the men looked stable in their seats, the ladies however seemed to have a lot of things in their mind.

Helian Chen was the one who broke the ice, ’’So, what’s the nature of your relationship with my daughter?" he questioned Maxim, his finger tapping on a tissue on the table as he observed Diana’s expressions before looking back at Maxim.

Maxim paused, as he placed the fork down and lifted his head to meet the man’s gaze, ’’We are dating.’’

Alice was enraged when she heard that, ’’You...’’

’’...with marriage is mind,’’ Maxim finished, his gaze flying to Diana just in time to see the redness creeping up her cheeks.

Content with what he saw, he turned to look back at her father who had his eyebrow raised as if he did not see that response coming.

’Clang’

Alice pushed the plates away from her and the spoons dropped on the floor with a loud sounded, attracting the attention of the rest of the people around them.

’’You think you can marry her? Who do you think you are?" Alice laughed, utter mockery visible in her eyes, ’’Even someone like you has the audacity to dream. Just how foolish can a person be?’’
