Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 310: Intimacy
Chapter 310: Intimacy
The chaos, all the unrest in her heart seemed to have halted all of a sudden.
I do love you.
But that’s not all that I feel for you.
You have consumed me.
I belong to you.
Only the remnant of his words lingered around her filling her with a bliss and peace that she had never felt before and with the sense of security that she had never had with someone other than him.
Diana wanted to do so much more. To say something and to respond to him yet she knew her words will fail her in that moment.
Hence, she did what she could manage.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and captured his lips, conveying words that were left unsaid.
Maxim took in a deep breath as their lips touched. He raked his fingers through her hair and dove in deeper into the kiss.
His other hand wrapped around her waist as he hoisted her up in his arms and stood up before he walked towards the bed.
He placed her on the bed.
As their lips parted, both of them were panting softly.
But before things could escalate between them, Maxim paused and reached out to turn off the lights.
She never wanted the lights. The last time they did it with their lights on in that very same hotel but they were fully clothed.
Before he could turn off the lights however, Diana grabbed his hand.
As he looked at her, she lowered her head, not looking at him.
After a moment, she raised her head and met his gaze before she started unbuttoning the shirt she was wearing.
And the moment the shirt slipped down her shoulder, Maxim’s world seemed to have come to a stop.
He glanced at the long scar that stretched down her abdomen.
Diana stood up from the bed and turned around, he saw that scar stretching all the way to her back where there were a number of big and small scars mangled all over. All of them had faded but still the remnants of them were garish enough to make him feel the pain.
Diana turned around and looked at him but the look of self-accusation, the guilt, the pain in his eyes took her aback. The corner of his eyes had turned red at some point.
"I am sorry,’’ a whisper escaped his mouth, ’’I...’’ his gaze shifted from those scars to her face.
The rest of the words were left unsaid as Diana walked into his arms, without giving him the chance to contemplate further. He did not have to complete his words for her to understand what he wanted to say.
Maxim’s fingers trembled as he raised a hand and wrapped it around her waist.
I am sorry.
For misunderstanding you.
For not knowing you better.
For not knowing the pain you went through.
And for putting you through more pain.
Maxim had read her diary entry. He had read the incident about her being hit but never in his wildest dreams did he assume that Diana was abused.
All those wounds, days off from school when she would come back with scars and bruises and tell him that she fell, that it was the neighbour’s dog, that it was her mistake as she was careless, suddenly started making sense as he held her tighter in his arms.
The rage in his heart grew along with the regret, the helplessness at the realization that he was not there. He was not there when she was suffering.
Diana buried her face in his chest, ’’I am sorry,’’ for not telling you the truth earlier.
She had always believed that intimacy was sex, that there was nothing more intimate that having someone so physically close.
But in that moment, it dawned on her that it was not the sex, it was the truth that was intimate.
The realization that you can tell someone your truth, you can stand bare in front of them, exposing all your insecurities and they just hold you in a way that tells you that you are safe with them—that’s intimacy.
...
The next day.
Diana rolled closer into Maxim’s arms, inhaling the familiar scent of his body.
Yesterday both of them were so tired that they ended up falling asleep the moment they landed on bed.
Diana raised her hand to touch Maxim’s face.
’’If you touch me, I will take it as your desire to stay in this room for the whole day,’’ the man spoke up without opening his eyes.
Diana pouted and retracted her hand, ’’Mean.’’
Maxim opened his eyes, flipped her around and pinned her to the bed before climbing between her legs, ’’Am I?" he nibbled on her chin when she nodded, ’’The kind of mean that you love?"
Diana blushed, ’’Shut up.’’
Maxim licked the spot he just bit on her chin, ’’Make me.’’
Diana poked his chest.
He smiled, rolled on to the other side of the bed and pulled her into his arms.
’’Where did you go yesterday?" Diana asked him, ’’I thought you must have left but when I came here, I got to know that you haven’t checked out. I was happy,’’ she confessed, blushing slightly.
He was amused, ’’I was looking for you. Daisy told me that you were sick and she could not find you. You left her place, all alone.’’
Diana pulled back from his arms to look at him, ’’But I talked to Daisy before I left her place. I saw that picture you had sent me and I did not feel like staying there anymore, without talking to you. I knew I had to meet you,’’ The urge to see him and talk to him was so desperate that she could not bother to wait for a night or even take a rest. She just told Daisy and left.
She had felt the panic inside her chest but it faded the moment she reached the hotel and realized that he had not checked out. And the familiar room, the warmth of his shirt set her heart more at ease.
But at the end of the day, the point was Daisy knew where Diana was going.
As their gazes met, it did not take them time to figure out what exactly transpired behind the scenes. Daisy must have wanted to trouble Maxim.
Diana lowered her gaze guiltily.
Maxim sighed helplessly.
