Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 305: He left
Chapter 305: He left
And in that particular moment, Maxim knew that it was probably that time to wake up from the dream.
If parting from him was what she wanted, then so be it.
As long as she was not hurting in any way.
He would rather she hate him than hurt herself.
’’Does it matter why I did what I did?’’ He repeated, shaking his head as he turned around and walked towards his car.
Tears threatened to roll down her cheeks. ’’Are you leaving?" her chin wobbled and her voice cracked as she asked out loud to the man who had already walked away from her.
’’I have no reason to stay.’’
Diana nodded to herself before she turned around and rushed inside the building.
The moment she entered the place, warm tears rolled down her cheeks as she pressed the back of her palm on her mouth, muffling her sobs as she cried hard.
Sudden, a haziness crossed her vision. The world around her seemed to be spinning. She could see a faint darkness as her legs lost their strength.
Diana did not know what was happening to her but all she could see was Daisy’s concerned face before her vision faded, turning her world black.
...
A familiar scent lingered around her. Diana moved closer to the source of that scent, inhaling more of it as she leaned into it.
But the moment she moved, the coat that was snugly draped over her slipped down, exposing her to the scent of the blankets over it.
She opened her eyes and glanced at the ceiling, covering her eyes with the back of her hand.
As her eyes adjusted to the blinding lights, Diana looked down.
The light in her eyes dimmed when she noticed Maxim’s jacket that had slipped down her shoulder at some point. She was draped in layers till she could feel a weight on her body.
’’Awake?" Daisy’s voice had her had turning towards the door.
Daisy entered the room with a tray in her hand. Placing the food tray on the bedside table, she eyed Diana who was sitting on the bed with a blank expression on her face.
Her face was flushed red because of the layers that Daisy had tucked her in.
’’Nice place,’’ Diana attempted to lighten the atmosphere as she raised her head and looked around at the glamorous condominium that her sister owned. It was minimalistic and beautiful yet not a single nerve in her body was focused on that.
Daisy narrowed her eyes and approached her before placing the back of her hand on her forehead, ’’You were burning earlier. What caused it?"
’’What...?" Before Diana could finish speaking, Daisy walked to the coffee table and came back with an iPad that she threw on the bed.
Diana picked it up hesitatingly.
’’Now I want you to be honest and tell me if they are fucking with you,’’ Daisy’s voice was cold yet determined, ’’They can care for their family’s reputation all they want but I would not appreciate it if they are doing it at our expense.’’
Diana looked at the pictures and articles that were displayed on the iPad. All of them had similar headlines that summed down to the younger daughter of Chen family being involved with a mysterious man and abandoning her rich date for him.
Without even thinking twice, Diana knew that Daisy was referring to their parents when she said those words.
When the silence between them stretched, Daisy frowned, ’’What is it?"
’’How did you get rid of Ryle?" Diana placed the ipad aside as Daisy brought the bowl of soup and sat beside her, ’’He seemed to be clinging to you earlier.’’
As Daisy brought a spoonful of the soup closer to her mouth, she answered, ’’It was not that hard. He brought me here to track Daisy Chen down while we are in Beijing. With Maxim saying that he does not need to find her anymore, he was already almost convinced... except that his male ego was not satiated initially.’’
For a person like Ryle being unable to track a heiress down was like a slap on his face.
And Daisy knew that with his resources, it would not have been hard for him to track her down. But the only reason he could not do it was because she was right in his vicinity, knowing his every move before he even executed it.
’’I convinced him that it’s a waste of time,’’ Daisy shook her head. As reluctant as she was, she continued speaking, ’’Still, I think I would need to thank Maxim for this. Speaking of him, where is he? Why were you alone out there and that too, in that condition where you fainted?"
The amount of words that Daisy was uttering was enough to tell anyone how worried she was.
Diana stilled at the mention of Maxim. The soup in her mouth suddenly seemed to have become difficult to gulp.
She was quiet for a moment before she gulped the soup and spoke softly, ’’He left.’’
Left? Why?
Diana expected those follow up questions but Daisy surprised her by asking none of those.
Instead, she nodded in understanding, ’’From what I gathered, he dropped all his work to fly here and he had barely slept or eaten in the past few days so it is better for him to deal with his things first. We can go back together.’’
Daisy did not realize the way her tone softened at the mention of Maxim.
But that did not escape Diana’s eyes, ’’I thought you did not like him much,’’ she held the bowl of soup from Daisy’s hand.
Daisy blinked as the realization of that statement sunk on her.
A few days ago, she still detested the idea of seeing her little sister with that annoying crafty man.
But now, out of nowhere, the idea of it did not seem to be that bad.
"Maybe it is the way he prioritizes you over everything,’’ Daisy whispered, seemingly more to herself than to Diana as she looked out of the window, ’’People in our lives have always put us after something, never before everything.’’
Diana froze.
Daisy looked at her, ’’Are you not feeling well again?"
