Chapter 306: Harassing blondes
’’I am fine,’’ Diana shook her head,
’’Sleep some more and I will wake you up before dinner,’’ Daisy stood up.
Diana nodded, ’’Where are Ivy and Angel?"
’’In the other room, worried about you. I forbid them from disturbing you.’’
Diana forced a smile on her face but somehow the smile did not reach her eyes.
Once Daisy left the room, she closed the door behind her and pulled her phone out before dialling Maxim’s number.
But his number was unreachable.
She tried calling him again but the call went off to voicemail.
Daisy frowned before she typed a text and sent it to him.
’Regardless of what happened between you both, I want you to know that I would track you down and beat you up for making my sister sad.’
Once the text was sent, Daisy raised her head and glanced at the closed door for a moment before she walked away.
Inside the room, Diana placed the soup aside.
Her gaze accidentally landed on the black box that sat beside her pillow. It was the very same phone that Maxim had given her earlier when she had left Chen Mansion.
She unboxed the phone before switching it on, still in a daze.
The words that Daisy said seemed to be reverberating in her mind.
When the phone was turned on, a series of texts popped up on the screen but Diana’s gaze stuck to the ’49 texts’ that remained the oldest.
She clicked on Maxim’s name and opened the chat in a daze.
Most of them were texts from the day after they had parted in the elevator. She had come to Beijing under the specific circumstances and he had been clueless about that when he went to work.
’Ana, did you sleep well?’
’What are you doing?’
’You must be unused to not coming to work. Do you want to go and explore bookstores tonight?’
’Or would you like dinner?’
’I am not used to not having you around. It’s strange without the colourful pastel sticky notes popping from my desk...’
While Diana was scrolling through the texts, her fingers paused when a picture appeared on the screen.
She could recognize Maxim’s hand as he held a photo frame in his hand. And in the frame, it was a picture of her younger self that he had clicked years ago. She could remember just with a glimpse at the picture.
Diana’s eyes widened. She immediately zoomed the picture and noticed the background of Maxim’s office desk.
It was the very same photo frame that she had seen at his office desk, but it had always been white, blank and she thought it was empty.
Diana’s heart trembled as she felt the warmth of her tears rolling down her cheeks.
...
’’My head is spinning already. Can you stop?" Ryle rolled the empty bottle of champagne to the side and it almost fell off the counter if not the bartender catching it and flashing a ’I got this’ smile at Ryle.
Ryle’s brows twitched.
He grabbed Maxim’s shoulder and tried to shake him awake but the man pressed his head on the counter, downing another shot of vodka.
’’That’s enough. You will die if you keep drinking like this,’’ Ryle picked him up by his collar, only to be kicked away by Maxim.
Ryle stretched his neck, feeling the mild throbbing ache building in his head. He could see two of almost everything with how blurry his vision was. Accompanied with the noisy environment of the nightclub, he could barely feel anything.
He pulled a strip of hangover pills from his pocket and popped one in his mouth before downing it with a small sip of vodka from Maxim’s glass. Good grace that he took some precautions before he came to join Maxim.
He did not have a bad alcohol tolerance but his tolerance was not that good as well. In his profession, it was essential for him to remain conscious all the time so even in business meetings, he would barely take one glass and let it linger in his hand till the very end.
But during his friend’s heartbreak, Ryle found it very improper to do that hence leading to his current circumstances.
And undoubtedly, just by observing at Maxim’s condition where he did not speak a single word and continued drinking like a drunkard, he had it worse than him.
Ryle popped two more pills in his hand but just as he had taken a step towards Maxim, he froze.
Maxim, who initially had his head pressed down the counter had disappeared from his sight.
As Ryle scanned the place, he spotted his friend stepping on the dance floor.
Despite his confusion, he rushed towards Maxim, an ominous feeling rising in his chest.
Ryle’s heart dropped to his stomach when Maxim approached a woman who was on the dance floor and it did not need him to take a second look to know why the lady was approached by his aloof and drunk friend.
The blonde hair.
’’Ana...?" Maxim blinked as he eyed the blonde hair with a dazed look in his eyes, ’’Can you....’’ not leave me?
Before the woman could turn around, Maxim was grabbed by the collar by Ryle who took him out of the nightclub without a second thought.
’’What...’’
’’Shut up!" Ryle stuffed two hangover pills in Maxim’s mouth and forced his jaw close, ’’You are going to harass every blonde on earth just because one broke your heart?"
Ryle did not pity the man even while he choked on the pills. Instead, taking advantage of Maxim’s drunkenness, he threw two punches in his chest, helping him gulp the pills smoothly.
’’This is what happens when you choose hoes over bros. What did I tell you about living a hassle free life and staying away from women?" Ryle crossed his arms in front of his chest, a look of leisure ghosting over his face as he eyed his friend.
