Diana’s voice was soft but Alice’s face fell when she heard those words, ’’I disgust you?" Alice pointed a finger at herself as she laughed, ’’Your own mother disgusts you? And not that bastard and his bitch of a mother who come to your life again and again regardless of how I send them away?"

It was as if Alice’s words had a resounding echo that seemed to be reverberating in the living room.

Diana’s heart dropped, her stomach churning with an uneasiness that had her clenching her fingers, ’’What... What do you mean? What do you mean you sent them away?’’

’’That bastard wanted to study in the same school that you opted for. I got his admission cancelled,’’ Alice coldly said, ’’To make sure he doesn’t come back looking for you, I got his mother fired from her job to keep them occupied.’’

’’But look at them... Such leeches. They ended up finding you again to bother you and now they have even tricked you into believing that they are being nice to you. What’s worse is that you are thoroughly tricked by them.’’

When Diana listened to Alice’s words, her entire existence seemed to have shaken up within an instant.

Warm tears rolled down her cheeks.

’’Diana...’’ Helian Chen approached her.

Diana shook off his hand before he could hold her, glancing at her mother indignantly.

’’Why?" Diana approached the woman and held her shoulders, ’’Out of everything you could have done, why this?"

As Alice looked at Diana’s teary face, there was a subtle shift in her reaction but when she heard the way her daughter was still defending some random man over her biological mother, her face hardened, ’’I did it to protect you from bad people.’’

’’Bad people?" Diana wiped her tears with the back of her hand, a self-loathing smile crept up her lips as she shook her head, ’’Did you ever look into yourself and wonder that all along, you might be the bad person here?"

’’Diana!"

’’You want to defend her?" Diana’s attention snapped to her father, ’’When I wanted to see you together just like every child wishes to, you both pretended to hate each other but now that she has destroyed every bit of happiness that I had built in my life, you want to defend her?"

Diana did not give them a chance to speak before she walked past Alice and ran upstairs.

After a few minutes, she came down with a backpack.

’’Did you think you will keep me here my doing this?" Diana glanced at Alice who still stood there, stunned yet unmoved, ’’You can no longer manipulate me the way you did.’’

Alice’s narrowed her eyes, ’’Guards, lock all the doors and gates,’’ she glanced at Diana and said, ’’I’ll see how you leave this place and with what conscience you meet the person whose life you destroyed?"

Diana stilled.

’’What? Are you trying to deny it? If not for you, what does Maxim Warner have to do with me? Why would I make things difficult for him or his mother? In the end, you are the one to blame for blending with people you should keep your distance from.’’

Diana did not respond to the woman as she walked towards the main door.

Several guards approached to lock the doors but Helian Chen shot them a cold glare, freezing the men in their spots.

’’What do you want?" Alice frowned.

’’That you stop here today. You have already pushed her far away from us. What more do you want?" As Helian Chen spoke, his gaze shifted to her dress which clung to her skin with her blood. The woman had undoubtedly reopened her wound again amidst all agitated fits.

’’I... You people, go stop her... ahh...’’

Before Alice could continue speaking, she was picked up and thrown above Helian Chen’s shoulder as the man shot the guards a scathing look, ’’Follow Diana discreetly and ensure her safety. At any cost, do not step out to meddle with her life or be prepared to face the consequences for that.’’

’’These are my people. Who do you think you are threatening?" Alice punched his back, struggling to get down from his arms.

’’I pay them, and they call me Master. What I say, goes,’’ Helian Chen tugged her closer when she attempted to bite his shoulder to free herself, ’’There are people around. Won’t you fake your poise now?"

It was like a sudden realization to Alice who noticed the servants gathering around.

She became motionless in the man’s arms almost immediately, not resisting his actions anymore.

Unbeknownst to her, a flicker of disappointment passed through the man’s eyes the moment she did so.

Once they reached the Master Bedroom, Helian Chen placed Alice on the King-sized-bed, his gaze still as solemn.

Alice was about to speak when she noticed something.

She was not brought to her room. It was the Master Bedroom and she did not remember the last time she had stepped inside the man’s room.

’’Why did you bring me here? What do you want?" she defensively crossed her arms in front of her chest, her gaze venomous, ’’I am telling you... don’t you dare try anything with me even if you are on the verge of death. You have women outside. Go to them if you have needs. Keep your filthy eyes off me and get lost.’’

The expression on the man’s face did not flicker in the slightest when he heard her accusations. He pulled out his phone and called his secretary, ’’Send the doctor over to the mansion within 15 minutes. Tell him that if he can’t stitch a wound properly, he can resign.’’

All the while as he spoke, his gaze did not leave Alice’s face which transformed from sheer hatred to anger to the realization of what just happened.

Her brows scrunched ever so slightly as she cautiously lowered her head and glanced at the blood that had seeped through her dress, her beautiful face morphing into an expression of shock as two pink clouds covered her cheeks behind the curtain of her blonde hair.
