Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 260: I was jealous

Chapter 260: I was jealous

She punched his chest, ’’Forget it. Since you are such an easy boyfriend, I can just treat you to a meal later. What would you have?" the words casually slipped off her mouth.

But for Maxim, that random ’boyfriend’ rang pleasant bells in his heart and mind, ’’Can I have you for the full course meal?"

Diana’s eyes widened when he did not waste a second and proceeded to move her from the passenger seat towards him.

’’Wait...’’

’’You said you will treat me to food," his fingers stroked her curves, "You are my favorite meal. No negotiations," those deep charming eyes gazed straight through her soul, immersing her in them.

’’I am on my period,’’ she blurted when his fingers started wandering.

His movements halted.

She closed her eyes, realizing that she terribly killed the mood perhaps.

Letting out a deep sigh, he buried his face in her neck, ’’Are you feeling okay?" he asked after calming himself down, Do you need rest? A day off? Good food?"

Her heart seemed to be expanding bit by bit as she heard his words and a lump formed in her throat.

Diana inhaled a breath and ruffled his hair wordlessly.

When he looked at her questioningly, she reached towards him and kissed his forehead before slipping back into the passenger seat, ’’You are cute,’’ she quickly fastened the seatbelt around herself, ’’But we are getting late.’’

Maxim could still feel the tingling sensation on his forehead.

’’Oh, wait!" Diana was suddenly reminded of something crucial, ’’Does Ryle have some enmity with my sister?"

Maxim was confused, ’’With her alibi, you mean?"

’’No, not Dexter. Daisy. I thought about it but I cannot recall any such remarkable incident where they crossed paths when Daisy was not disguised. If such a thing happened, Daisy would have told me,’’ Diana found this incident peculiar. Moreover, she wanted to bang Ryle’s head open and check inside his head. He was a CEO, he had a company to run. Why was he idle enough to badger his secretary all the time?

"What happened?" Maxim asked, noticing the weird look on her face.

Diana sighed, ’’Ryle wants Daisy to find Daisy,’’ When his face turned blank, she got worried that he did not get her point so she began explaining further, ’’Not Daisy to find Daisy. I mean he wants Dexter to find Daisy. But Dexter is Daisy and how can Daisy find Daisy...? God, I am a mess. You know what I am trying to say...’’ her words trailed off when she felt a warmth on her head.

Maxim stroked her hair as he looked at her smilingly, ’’I get your point.’’ Even if she was a mess, she was his mess. The most beautiful mess.

His inner voice was rather quick to add the monologue dangerously.

’’You do?" she looked at him with sparkling eyes.

’’Not only that, I think I might be responsible for that,’’ Maxim confessed, watching Diana’s eyes widen.

’’What? How?" she was surprised and baffled at the same time.

’’I thought Dexter was not the right kind of man to be kept around,’’ I was jealous of your sister who was disguised as a man.

’’But I could not say it to you without making you feel that I am controlling your choices and all since we were dating,’’ And also, I did not want you to think that I was being childish or petty.

’’So, I thought it would be better to have Daisy around. She can be there for you in case anything goes wrong and I am not there,’’ And she could keep you miles away from men who have designs on you.

Maxim felt like he twisted his words rather well, and stated his objectives properly without giving away his real intentions.

But Diana glanced at him silently for a few seconds. Her lips parted slightly.

Such a small movement yet his gaze dropped to her lips, increasing the tension in the car.

’’Were you... jealous?" Diana mumbled the question after a long time, almost to herself in a soft voice.

When Maxim looked into her eyes, all he could see was anxiety. A nervousness. Did she want him to be? Or did she not?

When the silence in the car stretched longer, Diana broke eye contact first, ’’Forget it. I understand...’’

’’I was,’’ Maxim confessed, almost immediately. Like he was scared if such a situation arose in the future again, he would have to start from the square to tell her how he wanted her for himself. Only himself, ’’I was jealous," I was so fucking jealous that I found it hard to breathe.

’Thump’ ’Thump’ ’Thump’

Diana licked her bottom lips, flexing her fingers that dug themselves in the fabric of her dress, ’’Okay,’’ What okay, dammit? You have a better vocabulary than that. Say something. Come up with something better.

Thanks for being jealous.

I feel giddy to know you were jealous?

My heart is unable to calm down after knowing that you were jealous?

When she opened her mouth, her words were cleanly translated to, ’’In the future, you don’t have to look for Daisy.’’

’’Hmm?" Maxim raised an eyebrow, not wanting to miss any one of the myriads of emotions crossing her face as he took in every detail on her face.

’’The next time, you can tell me about it. I will...’’

’’You will?" Maxim cut her off with a chuckle. He grabbed the back of her head and leaned closer to her, ’’If I tell you I don’t like some male, you will cut them off of your life?" his whisper fell on the nape of her neck, the warmth of his breath stroking her skin.

’’I... can draw lines.’’

’’Draw all the fucking lines you can, Ana and I will still feel the same. If anyone steals a glance at your smile, I will feel irrational. If they stare at you, if they hear your voice, I will still feel unreasonable. It’s incurable, sweetheart. The condition you have landed me in is incurable,’’ he pressed his forehead on her neck, his voice laced with a hint of helplessness, ’’The thought of someone having eyes for you is disastrous.’’

’’And what if... I only have eyes for you?" the words escaped her mouth in a soft whisper.

Maxim stiffened. He shifted his position and kissed her neck softly at first, and then with an intensity that marked her skin, ’’Mine,’’ he kissed the spot again before wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her into his arms.

Diana lifted her hands slowly and hugged him back, only to feel him tightening his grip around her.

In the hospital.

The moment Diana and Maxim reached the hospital, even before Maxim could go to his office, they were stopped by Mary on the way.

Looking at Mary’s panicked face, Diana knew that it was not some anxiety from happiness kind of thing.

’Bad news’ was written all over her face.

’’We were about to call you just now. The patient...’’ Mary was flustered and hence unable to form a single word.

"Louis?" Maxim tried to fill in the blank for the mentioned unnamed ’patient’.
