Chapter 222: Salty Old Master Qin
Chapter 222: Salty Old Master Qin
Dr. Rick had always admired Maxim’s capabilities in their field and envied him for being rather close to the director, but in certain aspects, he felt like he was much smarter than Maxim.
He had heard about the recent scuffle between Alex and Maxim where they beat up each other and it was something he frowned at.
In his opinion, regardless of how skilled Maxim was in the medical field, he lacked insight and his actions were rather foolish no matter how one looked at it. Director Qin was old and his position would eventually fall in the hands of his grandson in a few years. Moreover, the Qin Family’s influence was not just limited to this hospital but they were a renowned aristocratic family in Beijing and this hospital was just the tip of the iceberg of what they owned. Otherwise, Dr. Rick would not have chosen this place despite being sought by many other famous hospitals.
So, in Dr. Rick’s opinion, what Maxim was messing with was not just Alex Qin, but his own future prospects.
Dr. Rick sneered at Maxim’s foolishness but he could not be more content with the current circumstances. How he wished that they could fight more and more and he would be the one reaping profits.
After all, one man’s loss was another’s gain.
Clueless about his Doctor’s elaborate calculations, Louis felt rather comforted by his words and he nodded, ’’That’s better then,’’ he stood up, ’’I will take my leave now.’’
Dr. Rick nodded.
With that, Louis left the office without lingering further since he still had to go through pre-operative testing, imaging, and other tests which he had dropped out of his rush to get an explanation from his doctor.
Little did he know what kind of dreadful ordeal awaited him.
After the procedures were over, Louis was pushed over to the operation theatre on a stretcher. He momentarily closed his eyes, heart racing in anxiety. He clenched his fists.
It would be over. He told himself repeatedly. He had to live. He did not want to die. There were many regrets in his heart that he had left unattended for years. He had to find his son. He also had to look for... her and talk to her.
With that thought, he opened his eyes but he was startled for a moment when his gaze met a pair of aloof eyes. The person was standing in a dark spot and Louis could barely see half of his face from the shadows but the pair of detached eyes swept over him emotionlessly and for some reason, Louis felt his heart tremble.
He moved on the stretcher, trying to catch another glimpse of the person only to fall back as the hospital doors closed.
At the suburban mansion of the Qins.
After Alex left to attend to an emergency patient in the middle of the night, only the father and son were left in the huge mansion, along with the servants who could feel the tension in the air.
Qin Zehan had just come downstairs after finishing a phone call with his secretary when he saw his father looking up from the dining table.
Old Master Qin’s eyes widened and the bread in his hand almost dropped when he saw his son, ’’Why are you even here in the first place?"
’’Good morning to you too,’’ Qin Zehan took the seat on the chair next to the main seat as he looked at his father a little bit speechlessly, ’’You called me over since Alex upset you,’’ he said in a gentle reminder and picked up his spoon.
Old Master Qin lowered his head, trying to mask his guilty conscience. He did call him over to tame that wild brat but who could tell him why his son had to bump into Hazel the moment he came here? After he checked the CCTV, he naturally discovered everything that transpired in the hallway in front of his office and he saw how Hazel dashed away from there as if her life was hanging by a thread.
He could not help but regret calling his son over impulsively. This brat did not give him a moment of peace. He could not wait to shoo him away already.
What in the world were gods thinking when they gave this brat to him as his son and did not bless him with Hazel as his daughter?
Noticing his father’s extended period of silence, Qin Zehan looked up from his plate only to see that aggrieved look on the old man’s face. His father had been acting out of sorts since they left the hospital yesterday and as much as he wanted to pass off as not something serious but his instincts told him that something was amiss.
’’You... When are you leaving already?" Old Master Qin harrumphed to mask his thoughts when he felt his son’s probing gaze. This brat was as sly as a fox so he could not give himself away.
Qin Zehan narrowed his eyes for a moment but in the next moment, his lips quirked up in a docile smile as if he was the most harmless creature ever, ’’Father, you called me over in a rush and I have postponed all my meetings in this month, rescheduled the rest of the urgent projects just so I could come here to accompany you. I have missed you quite a lot over the years so I can’t bear to leave you yet,’’ his smile however did not reach his eyes that were cold as they tried to probe under the old man’s mask of pretense.
Those sweet filial words were poison to Old Master Qin’s ears because he understood that this guy had gotten suspicious, ’’What do you mean by postponed by a month? Are you staying here for a month?" Didn’t that mean he could not meet or gossip or idle his time away with Little Hazel during this month? And not only that, he would not even have the spare time to push Maxim and Diana together to continue matchmaking them...
His easygoing life was going to descend into chaos just like that.
Old Master Qin had never felt such regret before. Why did he invite this little devil here to discipline his son? He regretted it so much that his intestines turned green yet he could not do anything at all.
’’Of course,’’ Qin Zehan nodded calmly as if there was nothing out of the ordinary about what he said.
’’No way!" Old Master Qin snapped, ’’You... get lost right this instant. Do you think I could bear to look at that ugly face of yours for another moment without blinding my eyes?"
The female servants who heard that felt their hearts twisting in indignation as they glanced at their Old Master who was being grumpy before looking at their Master who was sitting there like an unbothered deity. Ugly?
He was their house idol. Despite the generation gap, all these young ladies passionately labeled their Master as their idol during their gossip time. How could they have thought that he would be called ugly like this? What ugly? His handsomeness was obviously blinding them.
The butler speechlessly looked at the innocent young girls who had their thoughts written all over their faces.
’’I have some work here and I want to spend some time with you. Not leaving yet,’’ Qin Zehan calmly stated as if his father was not on the verge of vomiting blood.
’’What work? Don’t tell me you are still thinking of investigating....’’ Old Master Qin’s words trailed off when he realized that he had said something he should not have said in a fluster. He composed himself immediately, ’’Hmph! Troublemaker.’’
Qin Zehan acted like there was nothing out of the ordinary but inwardly, he was thinking that his guess was right. The reason his father was acting so strange lately had more or less something to do with that mysterious lady who had run away when he called out to her, leaving her shopping bags behind.
He had initially dropped his intentions to investigate but now he was having second thoughts.
The only clue that led to that lady was the name on the bill.
Logan Parker.
While his father was absentminded, Qin Zehan pulled out his phone and dropped a text to his secretary.
’Investigate Logan Parker’
Meanwhile, the secretary looked at the series of texts on his phone: ’Investigate Logan Qin’, ’Don’t’, ’Investigate Logan Parker’.
"_" President, what in the world do you want me to do???
The servants were also somewhat dumbstruck by the father-son duo’s unique interaction that they were witnessing after quite a long period.
The three generations of the Qin family were in great disharmony over the years with Old Master Qin being fed up with the pair of father and son that Qin Zehan and Alex were.
Some of the servants were young and new ones and they kept treading carefully around, afraid of offending one for the sake of another even though they could not understand why Old Master Qin was so salty.
What was more shocking was that although Old Master Qin was salty towards his troublesome grandson who caused turmoil every other day, the old man still doted on him quite a lot. But as for his capable son who never committed a single mistake, the old man seemed to be holding an irreversible grudge. They could not understand the cause behind this anomaly at all.
But the butler who had served the Qin family for decades was not as clueless. He merely shook his head when he noticed the servants’ confusion. He had been by the Old Master’s side since both of them were kids so he naturally knew every little reason behind his actions and decisions.
Their Master had never disrespected the Old Master in the slightest. Qin Zehan was what they would describe as an ideal son and not only that, he was blessed with the best genes from his parents, making him a genius since he was very young but a pity that the Old Master did not get along with Qin Zehan since the time he was born.
When the baby Qin Zehan had yet to be born, he made the Old Madam suffer quite a lot, taking his own sweet time to come out to see the light of the day. Old Master Qin being the wife-doting hubby that he was, held a grudge over the unborn child for making his wife suffer to that extent.
Then, when the child was born, Old Master Qin felt like his wife had suffered a lot and he wanted to kiss her to comfort her and thank her for giving birth to his child but before he had even finished his speech and moved closer to his wife, the newborn Qin Zehan had plastered himself to his mother’s face unconsciously, snatching the Old Madam’s attention. Naturally, a certain someone was petty enough to feel jealous of his own son.
And if that was not enough, one new grudge was added to Old Master’s list in recent years. That was Qin Zehan’s ’incompetence’ in Old Master Qin’s words...
Coming to think of that, the Butler’s eyes flashed as he looked at Qin Zehan, a hint of complicated emotions in his eyes.
Qin Zehan happened to raise his head at that moment and as his eyes met the Butler’s, he frowned slightly.
The butler quickly lowered his head.
