Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 221: Preponed
Chapter 221: Preponed
Finding it rather strange, she closed the door and went back to the couch and she felt even stranger when she saw her sister’s ’all is well’ face.
Diana’s lips started to twitch as she braced herself before speaking, ’’He asked you to do all those things unreasonably and you really did them?"
’’Yes,’’ Daisy was kind enough to speak a word instead of gracing her with just a nod this time.
But Diana was not feeling touched in any way, ’’Did you even eat, sleep, shower?"
That company, under the guise of a company, was more like a lavish secret lair. Daisy did not go into details about it, considering Diana’s safety so she just nodded once.
Diana was relieved but she still felt rather indignant, ’’Why would you be cornered like that?"
’’Not cornered,’’ Daisy stood up and stretched her arms, ’’I burnt them all.’’
’’B-Burnt what?"
’’The documents he asked me to memorize.’’

Seeing the expression on Diana’s face, Daisy paused for a moment and wondered if she came off as unreasonable. She mumbled under her breath, ’’That fucker had it coming," her words sounded rather poisonous to Diana’s ears.
"_"
Diana watched blankly as Daisy went to the Master bedroom and smothered Angel with kisses before walking off to the guest room while stretching her arms.
A confused sleep deprived Ivy looked around in confusion at the noise before she slumped on the bed again.
Diana was rather shaken. She thought she was enough of an oddball. Why were the people around her even more maniacal?
Just as she was calming herself, the doorbell rang again.
"_"
Speechlessly, Diana went to open the door and before Maxim could speak, she opened her mouth to ask, ’’What now? Flour? Milk? Fruits...?" the lack of bowl in his hand made her trail off.
"You,’’ he wrapped an arm around her bottom and swung her above his shoulder like a potato sack before walking off to the elevator.
That was the scene that Daisy was greeted with when she came to ask Diana if she would sleep some more before going to work. She wanted to snatch her sister back from a certain someone’s clutches but she lacked the energy to do that. Moreover, Diana did not look all that reluctant as she was ’abducted’ so Daisy just locked the door and went back to the room, thinking how all cabbages are eventually stolen by some fucking immoral dogs.
Diana was speechless being handled like that but she did not protest against his grip despite her face gradually turning red, ’’Are you drunk, Maxim?"
’’Not on alcohol.’’
’’What does that even mean? Where are you taking me?" she protested a bit. She did not want to be seen being carried like this out in the streets. Although it was not an out-of-ordinary kind of view in LA but having been raised in a strict household in Beijing, she was rather thin-skinned in a few aspects or so she believed a few weeks ago.
’’My place. What would you like to eat, Ana?" Maxim’s voice was incredibly gentle.
Hearing the mention of food, Diana stopped struggling further, ’’Um... Anything you can make.’’
’’I can make a lot of things,’’ his voice sounded suspiciously hoarse but Diana could not see his face.
As promised, Diana was taken to Maxim’s place where she waited on the dining table while he prepared a lavish breakfast in less than 30 minutes.
And Maxim fed Diana with his own hands till she felt that her stomach was bulging a bit. In the end, she had no more energy to talk or walk around. Like a pig, Diana slumped in Maxim’s bed and scooted in his arms as she slept soundly.
Satisfied with the outcome of his ’efforts’, Maxim hugged her tighter as he joined her in for a nap.
Compared to the peaceful atmosphere at their place, the situation was a little different at the hospital.
’’Dr. Rick, why has my surgery been preponed?" Louis was sitting in front of his current doctor with a frown on his face. His surgery was scheduled a few days later but for some reason, it had been moved to today and he had just been made aware of that when a nurse informed him about it. For someone extremely conscious about his health, it made him panic and he immediately sought his doctor for answers.
Dr. Rick seemed to be a man in his late 20s and his face look rather gentle and approachable, making it easier for patients to be comfortable around him.
But at this moment, there was a mild annoyance in his eyes as he glanced at the patient who had barged inside his office casually like it was a garden. But his annoyance was not expressed as he spoke in a calm tone, ’’Mr. Louis, as I have told you before, your health condition is nowhere as serious as you think. You just have a non-cancerous tumor and there is nothing you should be panicking about.’’
Those words seemed to have a calming effect as Louis’ face relaxed slightly, seemingly comforted.
Seeing that the situation was under control, Dr. Rick adjusted his glasses and continued speaking, ’’As for the reason I preponed it... I am leaving to attend a seminar in Vegas and I will be away for almost two weeks. You are the only patient that I have taken up for this month under special circumstances so I don’t see a point in delaying your surgery. I will be around to monitor you for about a week post-surgery before I leave,’’ he explained patiently despite the frustration in his heart.
He had to take up this patient because the request was made by Veronica a few days ago. And Veronica was the assistant of the director’s grandson, Alex Qin. So, he could not turn the request down. And leaving a good impression on Alex would only lead to a better future in the hospital.
