Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 219: Admonishments

Chapter 219: Admonishments

’’Sugar,’’ Maxim raised the bowl in his hand.

Diana blinked. Just sugar? A hint of disappointment sprouted in her chest but she ignored the strange feeling and grabbed the bowl from his hand, ’’Then I will clean this and get it for you. Do you want to come in?" she asked while dragging Daisy inside.

Maxim’s eyes narrowed as he eyed Diana’s unruly hand before he met her inviting gaze, ’’No need,’’ he tilted his head to the side.

Although he was looking indifferent, his face was screaming ’Coax me, cajole me’ no matter how Diana looked.

Just what was he thinking?

After a few minutes, she came back with the bowl of sugar and handed it to him as she opened her mouth to speak, ’’Is everything al...’’ right?

Her words were yet to finish when he turned around and walked towards the elevator.

Diana opened her mouth to call out to him but seeing that he was not in the mood to talk, she decided to talk to him later.

With that thought, she locked the door and walked into the house, not noticing the way Maxim’s face darkened even further.

Maxim pulled his phone out and called Ryle. The call was answered on the third ring. ’’Get your people out of here,’’ he gritted his teeth. The more he thought about that man living at Diana’s place, the more he had the urge to act on impulse and beat the hell out of him.

Maxim never believed that he was a violent person but his recent endeavors where he was teetering on the border of his morals made him reevaluate his character.

"What people?" Ryle sounded highly miffed but his tone had a hint of innocence.

Having been revolted against by his secretary early in the morning, he had no idea why Maxim was out to get him too. He felt like he had done nothing to deserve any of this crap these ruthless people were giving him.

’’Your secretary is still living here,’’ Maxim said as the elevator opened. He walked straight to the kitchen and pushed the bowl of sugar to the kitchen counter before grabbing another bowl randomly.

’’Living here? Where?" When Maxim remained silent, Ryle asked curiously, ’’At Silver Regency?"

’’Take a guess?"

’’At Diana’s place...?" Ryle was speechless when Maxim remained silent, ’’I thought he was going to her place for one night or two. How would I know he would settle down at your woman’s abode?"

Maxim remained silent.

But to Ryle, that silence screamed a few resounding words.

Get-him-the-hell-out-of-here.

Heaving a deep sigh, Ryle spoke up again, ’’Tell me. Are you and Diana dating?"

Another moment of silence.

’’I will take your silence as a yes,’’ Ryle said just as Maxim got back inside the elevator, ’’And as disheartened as I am, with a very heavy heart, I offer my condolences to you.’’

Maxim’s lips thinned, a hint of annoyance in his eyes, ’’Your point?"

’’My point is that you have every right to be jealous when your woman is paying attention to another man or another man is paying attention to her. But when it comes to your situation, you can’t be jealous. It is beyond cure when your woman is so blatantly cuckolding you because it’s pretty apparent that you are not the holder of her interest any more,’’ Another deep sigh came from Ryle followed by his next mournful words, ’’If I go according to your girlfriend’s... soon to be ex-girlfriend’s culture, I say I will get a custom-made green suit and green hat made for you. It fits with the current situation.’’

(Note: In China "wearing a green hat" (dài lǜ mào zǐ) is an expression that the Chinese use when a woman cheats on her husband or boyfriend because the phrase sounds similar to the word for a cuckold.)

After hearing the blow-by-blow account of the whole situation from Ryle, Maxim’s expression did not get any better but it only looked worse.

The elevator door opened and Maxim stepped out but he did not make any move to approach Diana’s apartment immediately.

Seeing that Maxim was still silent, Ryle assumed that he must be heartbroken so he continued speaking, ’’So what was I saying? Instead of getting dumped by her, you should dump her first instead. I’m telling you that girl just did not sit right with me since the first time I met her. She screamed trouble but you were so bewitched that I refrained from saying anything. The only advantage she comes with is that adorable niece of hers. As for her, she is no less than a vixen. Now that I know about her family background, my gut feeling is stronger. Not only is she high maintenance and has princess syndrome, but she is also rather sly, I am telling you. It is good that you saw through her foxy nature in time..."

After a brief pause, Ryle continued in a benign tone, ’’When Dexter was dumped by his ex-girlfriend, who was an heiress of the Si Family who found a new love in one of my employees, I asked him to get himself a new woman to get over the old one. But I did not expect him to set his sights on your woman. Now that Diana is no longer yours, it’s better if you retract your paws and get yourself a new woman to get over her...’’

His sage-like tone was cut off when Maxim interrupted him, ’’You are the vixen,’’ With those words, he hung up without wasting another moment. Who did he think he was calling vixen and foxy? If Diana was high-maintenance, then he would be the one happily doing all the maintenance. What had it got to do with others?

"_" Ryle’s face was blank on the other side. For no good reason, he believed that out of all the nice things that he said, Maxim had only been fixated on those words where he admonished Diana. And the rest of his meaningful bits of advice were filtered out with ease.
