Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 217: Pulling wool
Chapter 217: Pulling wool
Ryle’s face was shrouded in a layer of frost. Even the usually noisy parrot was obediently cocooned in his arms, seemingly sensing its owner’s fluctuating mood.
It had not even lived properly yet.
It had not even met its hen yet. It did not want to die childless.
(Note: Female parrots are known as female parrots or hens)
At this time, there was a knock on the door.
’’Come in.’’
The head of the IT department stepped inside, his face showing a trace of shock when he saw the condition the office was in. He had been cooped up in the IT department, seeking a breakthrough in the task that was handed to him so he had no idea what transpired here.
But he did not have the guts to get his curiosity quelled by their boss. Gulping softly, he realized that he might have bought his pessimistic news at the wrong time.
Alas, it was too late to retreat from the battlefield that he had willingly stepped into. So, he braced himself for it, ’’Boss, we are unable to trace Daisy Chen.’’
’’Oh?" Ryle’s voice was languid as he turned around.
But that one look from Ryle scared the man shitless, ’’B-Boss, we have been looking for her for days now. When we initially tried to hack her phone, we encountered a barrier and I thought it would be fine after we crack it. But we... we... can’t get through it at all without alerting the person on the other side.’’
’’You can’t even handle a pampered socialite who hasn’t seen enough of the world?"
The man gulped, ’’There seems to be an expert on her side given the intricate layers of security inducted in her phone. If I am to proceed with it, I might alert them,’’ And knowing that Daisy Chen was not an ordinary passerby who can be offended without fearing retaliation, he did not dare to decide on his own. After all, they had collaborated with the Chens a few years ago and they were not someone to be provoked without rhyme or reason. So he had come to drop the hot potato back to his Boss.
Ryle looked at the man before narrowing his eyes, ’’Get lost.’’
The man scrambled out of the office with his tail tucked between his legs.
Ryle pulled out his phone and dialed Maxim’s number without wasting another second.
...
Maxim had just stepped out of the gym as he sat on the couch with his phone in his hand, contemplating a myriad of excuses he should come up with to spend some time with Diana before work.
She was probably sleeping. If he woke her up without a valid reason, she would be grumpy throughout the day. And if he joined her in sleep, then things will probably escalate and it would not be the right domain for little Angel. If he dragged her to his place, she might be reluctant to leave Angel behind in case the girl was bored. If he let her lug Angel with her, then he would not be able to get his claws on Diana.
All in all, Maxim felt like medical science was way easier than dating.
He wondered if he should get a pet for little Angel to play with.
His brows tugged together as he visualized the pros and cons. First, she was too small for a pet. And with the traits she had picked from her ’mama’, she would either munch on the pet or get eaten by it.
Probably, he should get a pet for himself and invite Angel and Diana to move in with him to help him take care of it because he was ’busy’?
Maxim quickly rejected the idea. Under their integrated laziness, the pet would not survive past a week. Even with Ivy around, he did not have faith that they would be able to raise a cat or dog.
All in all, he was back to square one, looking at his phone in wonder. Just what excuse he should come up with?
As he was wondering, his phone started ringing.
Maxim looked at the caller ID and his brows tugged together.
’’What is it?" Maxim asked as soon as he answered the call. Putting the phone on speaker, he shoved it to the coffee table and supported his forehead on his fingers, elbow propped up on the arm of the couch as he considered what excuse he should come up with to cling to Diana.
"Apologies, I am unable to locate your sister-in-law. Do it yourself,’’ Ryle’s voice sounded like he had eaten gunpowder.
Maxim raised a brow, ’’Oh.’’
’’Oh? That’s it? Aren’t you going to plead with me to try harder to look for her... Wait, did you just not protest when I referred to her as your sister-in-law?"
Maxim’s lips tugged up slightly. He did not respond to the additional question as he spoke, ’’Daisy is not someone you can deal with. I was just trying to see if you have dumb luck on your side,’’ his words and tone could not be more provoking.
’’You...’’ Ryle, who had been holding his temper for so long almost snarled from the other side of the phone, ’’I haven’t even tried properly yet. There is nothing and no one in this world that I cannot handle,’’ With that said, he hung up, not realizing that a certain ’sheep’ had pulled ’wool’ over his eyes by intently provoking and demeaning him.
Regardless of anything, Daisy Chen was still the heiress of the Chen Family. And being the elder daughter, she was inevitably going to inherit her father’s position sooner or later if things did not go south for her. It was not that Ryle could not afford to offend them but he did not have a decent cause to make enemies out of Chens. Moreover, even if they became enemies, then his methods to deal with the Chens would not be bloodless and that would lead to more trouble.
