Chapter 197: Things you put a label on
But Angel seemed to not have understood a single thing that Diana was trying to tell with her eyes. The little girl pouted and buried her round face in Daisy’s neck and continued yawning.
Usually, she would play along with Maxim to bully her. Now, she was teaming up with Daisy.
Feeling somewhat betrayed, Diana looked at the sky to complain to god, only to be greeted by the sight of the ceiling.

Daisy walked to the kitchen and passed Angel to Ivy.
Ivy gradually recovered from the shock and staggered back to her room. As Angel looked at her with wide eyes, Ivy could not help but whisper in the little girl’s ear, ’’They are going to talk about your potential future uncle.’’
Angel blinked some more, ’’Vi... Vi..’’
A beautiful smile blossomed on Ivy’s face when she heard that and the fresh gossip she overheard outside flew to the back of her head. She had been teaching Angel to call her name for so long and the girl finally made some progress.
On the other side, Daisy leaned back on the kitchen counter and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
Diana did not dare to interrupt her and stood there like a guilty child.
In fact, as Daisy pondered about it, she realized that Diana and Maxim were even closer to each other when they were young. But, she was not defensive back then because she saw how they treated each other.
Daisy had believed that sooner or later, they would end up dating. But things did not proceed as she had expected.
As for now, she did not know what Maxim was thinking. She was still in disguise so it was inconvenient for her to have a proper talk with him.
Since he was out to steal her baby sister, she was naturally concerned about where he stood in this whole thing. She did not want Diana to be wronged in the slightest.
Diana had recently gotten out of their parents’ wings and if she got into a relationship that turned out to be bad, it would probably traumatize her to some extent, especially if the other person in the relationship is Maxim.
"Daisy...?’’ Diana called out meekly when she saw Daisy standing quietly after a long time.
Daisy glanced at Diana as she thought further about it.
Coming to think of it, maybe Maxim was not that bad. At least, he would not hurt Diana on purpose. Comparatively, if Diana ended up with some other man, Daisy would not be so reassured.
If the cabbage was bound to be stolen anyway, then it was better to let the slightly trustable dog steal it.
When she looked at it that way, Daisy was relieved instead of being worried like before.
’’So, now that you both are finally dating, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Just take care of your image and don’t just go around clinging to him. Forget it, cling to him if you like,’’ Daisy waved her hand, ’’I will handle whoever badmouths you. Also, don’t get pregnant before marriage...’’ she paused for a moment before adding, ’’My situation is different so don’t shove that on my face. Since you both are dating, it’s better if you get pregnant after a long period of observation lest he turned out to be a jerk...’’
Daisy paused, feeling like something was amiss with her words. In the end, she sighed softly and corrected herself, ’’Forget it. Get pregnant if you wish to. It’s not bad for Angel to have someone to play with. If he turned out to be a jerk, I will fix him up for you...’’ she trailed off when she noticed the dumbfounded look on Diana’s face.
It was rare for her to speak so much but she was worried about Diana. Yet, Diana was standing there like she was thunderstruck.
Daisy felt something was amiss, ’’What’s wrong?" she asked hesitatingly.
’Silence’
’’Umm... Daisy, who is spreading rumors about me?" Diana’s voice was so light that it would have floated away in the wind if not for Daisy’s keen hearing.
Daisy did not have a good feeling about where this was going, ’’What... rumors?"
"That.. uh, I am dating W... Maxim,’’ Diana corrected herself when she recalled how he wanted her to call his name. Initially, she felt like she would not get used to it but his name rolled off her tongue rather naturally. And the mention of him made her smile a bit.

’’You just said you slept with him,’’ Daisy pointed a shaking finger at Diana, ’’You said... sleeping with him was your lifelong dream...’’
Diana walked towards her and comforted her by patting her back, ’’Um, you slept with Angel’s father too. Did you marry him?"
"That’s different,’’ Daisy was rather an old school in certain aspects but she felt like it was a relief that she hadn’t gotten entangled with Angel’s father in any way. It would have made her life troublesome.
"How is it different? Good stuff always comes out of unexpected situations,’’ As Daisy looked at her questioningly, Diana leaned back on the kitchen counter right next to her and patiently explained as if she was the elder sister, ’’Like you got blessed with Angel in this situation.’’
Daisy nodded. After thinking for a moment, she felt like she got the gist of it, ’’So, you got together with him but you both are not in a relationship?"
Diana nodded happily seeing that her sister got her point.
’’So, you did that because you want a child?" Daisy blinked.
"_"
Diana was stunned for a moment, ’’You misunderstood me. That’s not the point.’’
Daisy was bewildered.
’’Look, I will explain it properly this time,’’ Diana cleared her throat before she spoke, ’’Boyfriends and girlfriends eventually break up. Husbands and wives eventually divorce or worse, torment each other by staying together. In my opinion, things you put a label on are bound to not last long.’’
Weirdly enough, this time Daisy felt like Diana was not talking gibberish. To some extent, she made sense.
’’When people start to date, they put restrictions and expectations into the equation. The girl gets petty if the guy meets someone else, gets disappointed if he does not text her from dawn to midnight, cares for the guy when he is down while expecting him to do the same when it’s her turn, and many such things. As for Maxim and me, we are two cool-headed adults,’’ Diana spoke in a sage-like manner, ’’I care for him unconditionally, without any expectations. I don’t really bother about which girl he meets, after all, it’s his life...’’
Daisy narrowed her eyes when Diana’s tone unconsciously dipped at the ’which girl he meets’ point. It was as if Diana herself had not noticed that.
She continued, ’’I am cool if he texts me or if we meet but it should be alright if we don’t talk or meet for days. Giving each other space and all.’’
Daisy frowned in contemplation, ’’It does make sense.’’
’’6 years ago, when he left, I was bothered because I had put the label of ’best friend’ on him so I naturally had expectations. I expected him to stay with me forever, not caring about the fact that he has got a life too. So, now, I am rectifying my mistakes.’’
Daisy nodded, ’’Makes sense again.’’
’’Then, did Maxim agree to this whole thing?" Daisy asked after giving it a thought.
’’Oh, he said nothing about it so I am pretty sure he is fine with it,’’ Diana shrugged.
Daisy was speechless. She could believe it if Diana said it was all her idea, but if she wanted her to believe that Maxim was fine with this whole setup, it was an impossible feat to achieve.
Everything that Diana stated, no jealousy, no expectations, not caring whether they texted or met often... Didn’t Maxim nullify all these things like a decade ago?
While mosquito repellant kept mosquitoes away, Maxim was like a secret men repellant who kept all the men away from Diana back in the university days. The letters she received mysteriously ended up in Maxim’s lockers and the people who were interested in Diana did not dare to approach her.
If Daisy were, to be honest with herself, she would admit that she had been reckless and impulsive many times. She did not usually fight with Diana but there was one time when she was upset at Diana for tolerating their mother and that ended up with Daisy blocking Diana after their fight, which had never happened before.
But Maxim was always there for Diana. And to put it in Diana’s language, he cared for her unconditionally.
Moreover, the man was so clingy towards her sister that it annoyed Daisy so she did not believe when Diana said that he had agreed to be casual.
No expectations? No relationship? Daisy begged to differ.
That sly fox must be plotting something by acting like a white lotus in front of her sister.
