Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 195: Empty room
Chapter 195: Empty room
’’Don’t tell Dee about this. She will start nagging if she knows. I want to sleep too but I can’t sleep for more than a few hours no matter how hard I try so it’s not worth it to toss and turn in the bed all night. I decided to be a little productive instead. But you must keep it from Dee—’’
’’Will do that,’’ Daisy cut her off coldly. How noisy.
Had Ivy not been good to Diana and Angel all this while, Daisy would have kicked her out of her sight instead of bothering herself with her.
But it was either Ivy did not notice Daisy’s cold tone or she simply did not care because she continued talking cheerfully again after a brief pause, ’’I had dozed off for a few hours but then I woke up later. Dee tends to sleep in all the time even though she sets the alarm pretty early. It’s good that you woke up early. I won’t be bored. Come, come, talk with me, Dex,’’ she patted the seat next to her.
"_" Can she choose not to?
Upon seeing the girl’s eager face, Daisy approached the couch and sat beside her before she poured a glass of water for herself.
Ivy’s smile widened, ’’Why don’t you tell me about Angel’s mom? How did you both meet? Was it love at first sight?"
Daisy choked on the water.
Daisy coughed violently as she grabbed a few tissues and cleaned the water that had splashed on her jacket.
Ivy patted her back, ’’God, what happened? Did I invoke some traumatic memories?" she started feeling guilty.
Diana’s sister and Dexter did not come here together and Diana never mentioned them in one line so it was possible that they did not get along rather well.
Initially, Ivy had wanted to keep her curiosity away but whenever she saw Dexter’s charming face, she could not help but wonder what exactly was his story.
Although Ivy was not fond of ice cubes, she had a better impression of Dexter compared to Maxim and Logan who were cold and scary. Comparatively, Dexter seemed unapproachable but he still treated girls tenderly, or else he would not have sat with her when she asked him to and he was nice to Diana too.
Sigh... It was another thing that she saw another dimension of Maxim when he was drunk yesterday. But, Ivy doubted that he would still be the same after he regained consciousness.
After calming down, Daisy glanced towards the Master bedroom. She had left to door open to keep an eye on Angel but the little girl was still sleeping peacefully and was not stirred awake by her loud coughing sounds.
Daisy was relieved.
Ivy, on the other hand, was worried that she had reminded the man of some painful memories so she quickly consoled, ’’It’s okay. Relationships are naturally terrible but you should not feel bad about them. Even if Dee’s sister let you down, you should know you are a great man. Moreover, you have got a daughter like Angel so there is nothing to be sad about...’’
’’I am fine,’’ Daisy interrupted the chatterbox, inwardly wondering what Diana was thinking when she introduced her as Angel’s father.
In a moment of frustration, Daisy inwardly pinned the blame on Diana.
Alas, poor Diana was truly set up this time.
After all, Daisy was the one who was wary of Ryle and wanted to keep her identity secret from everyone. So, if she had introduced Daisy as a random friend or guest, it would have been difficult for her to stay at their place for long and even spend quality time with Angel without making Ivy suspicious.
Another reason behind introducing Daisy as Angel’s father was a little selfishness on Diana’s part. She did not want to go against Daisy but she also did not want to lie to Maxim. If Ivy ever mentioned this in front of Maxim, then Maxim would possibly end up guessing the truth and he would understand her reasons.
Ivy was still not convinced by that, ’’If you are fine, why do you look so depressed? Anyway, you should relax and have fun in your life first instead of being troubled by the past. Past is gone so it’s not worth it,’’ she naturally had a soft corner for Dexter who was not only more beautiful than women but despite looking cold, he was tender towards Diana, Angel, and her as well.
So, Ivy was willing to give him some tips to get over Diana’s sister since he seemed to be so heartbroken.
Daisy fell speechless.
She wondered why she did not pretend to sleep some more after she woke up.
Seeing the unconvinced look on Ivy’s face, Daisy nodded slightly, ’’Past is past. I am fine.’’
Ivy slapped Daisy’s shoulder, ’’You don’t have to pretend to be fine. You can cry without feeling ashamed.’’
"_" Can I say I am not pretending? Can I say I have nothing to cry for?
But Daisy agreed with one thing that Ivy said. Although the circumstances in the past were not ideal, she got Angel out of it. So, it was indeed a good thing.
Seeing as Ivy was about to console her again, Daisy’s expressionless face slightly shifted.
If it was someone she hated, for example, Ryle, who was being noisy and badgering her then she would have found some ways to deal with him.
But there was nothing she could do about Ivy.
She did not even panic when she broke into Chen Mansion or duped Ryle, but as Ivy opened her mouth, a brief moment of panic slithered inside her and Daisy quickly stood up, ’’I almost forgot to check on Diana.’’
Ivy looked like she had forgotten about it, ’’Oh, yes, let’s go check on her.’’
When Daisy walked towards Ivy’s room, Ivy spoke up again, ’’But why are we going to my room?" The girl’s voice was filled with confusion.
Daisy halted in her tracks, ’’Is she not sleeping in your room?" she turned to look at Ivy.
Ivy’s face turned weird, ’’Why would Dee sleep in my room? She usually takes the Master Bedroom and after you came, you took the guest bedroom, right?"
Ivy had no idea that Diana and Daisy slept in the master bedroom with Angel but she had naturally assumed that Daisy, aka Dexter, a fully grown man would sleep in the guest bedroom.
And since Maxim had occupied the guest bedroom yesterday, Ivy had thought that Diana would dump Dexter with Maxim for the night.
Daisy’s brows tugged together. After getting changed into Diana’s clothes and removing the wig, she locked the door. Since Diana did not knock, her sleep was not interrupted. When she woke up, she assumed that Diana must have ended up sleeping in Ivy’s room to not disturb Angel.
Both Ivy and Daisy looked at each other and they could see the look of disbelief creeping on their faces as they turned to glance at the closed door of the guest bedroom.
Daisy’s eyes narrowed.
Ivy felt a chill creeping down her spine as the surroundings suddenly turned cold. She stole a glance at the man who was standing next to her and her heart thumped. Did she say that Dexter was not scary?
She wanted to bite her tongue off as she saw the stormy look on the man’s face.
Daisy approached the guest room and turned the doorknob.
’Click’
Seeing that the door was not locked from the inside, Daisy’s expression turned better but her eyes were still cold.
Gulping softly, Ivy screamed at the top of her lungs, ’’Dee! Dee! Dee, are you awake? We are worried for you—’’
Daisy shot a glare at her, cutting off her screams.
Ivy cowered back slightly as she burnt a few incense sticks for Diana mentally.
In her opinion, Maxim would naturally evade this danger since he was equally scary. But poor Diana would end up being a punching bag here.
’But Dee can’t blame me. I gave her the heads up already,’ she thought.
Seeing how Dexter cared for Diana, Ivy realized he must really treat her as his sister-in-law despite the bad relationship with Diana’s sister.
Her overthinking came to a screeching halt when Daisy pushed open the door and stepped inside the room.
Ivy followed her.
But soon, their expressions froze.
The room was empty.
The blanket was thrown to the floor.
Daisy’s keen eyes settled on the two Dahlias flowers stuffed in the glass of water.
The air around her seemed to be growing colder and colder.
Ivy felt stifled, ’’They... when did they leave?" she coughed a few times but there was no response from Daisy.
She seemed to be thinking about something.
’’Dex, what are you thinking?"
