Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 181: I love your eyes

Chapter 181: I love your eyes

Diana did not dare to think further.

To think that alcohol did this to him. It was surprising to her. Maxim was good at everything but now, she just discovered that...

There was indeed something he was not good at but she did not even have the chance to celebrate or tease him about it.

When they were all living together at Ryle’s place, she had seen him sipping wine occasionally during dinner. But that’s it. It was only a sip or two that he took. Where he went after that? She had no idea.

Right now, he was already drunk, and if he jumped into the river...

’’Warner, are you listening to me?"

’’So what if I listen to you? I don’t want you to join me!" he said, sounding wilful.

’’Why not?" Diana rushed towards the bridge while conversing with him. When he did not respond, she called out to him again, ’’Warner...?"

’’Don’t Warner me. Nobody Warners the man...’’ he lowered his voice and spoke in a conspiratorial whisper, ’’...who kisses them.’’

"_"

Diana almost lost her balance when she heard it.

Her face turned warm. He... Why was drunk Maxim so unrestrained?

’’Then, wait for me. Let me join you. We will jump into the river together,’’ she hurriedly said and at the same time, she spotted a small crowd gathered near the bridge.

’’Join me? I don’t want you to join me. I am swimming alone~" Maxim responded with a huff.

’’Why won’t you let me join you?" Diana cut through the crowd and found Maxim sitting on the bridge, with legs on either side.

He was even swaying his body from side to side.

’’Hmm... Because... I don’t know...’’ he glanced at the river as he spoke.

Diana grabbed his hand when he was distracted.

His head snapped up and he looked like a deer in headlights. Messy hair framed his face as he looked at her with wide eyes. Cheeks flushing so bright that her remaining doubt about his alcohol tolerance vanished in thin air.

Maxim was drunk. Terribly drunk.

’’Are you stalking me, Ana?" he leaned closer to her and pressed his chin below her collarbone as he looked at her.

’’I...’’ Diana flushed.

The crowd gradually dispersed.

’’I thought he was committing suicide.’’

’’But it seems like just a couples’ fight...’’

’’Tsk... Youngsters these days.’’

Diana’s ears caught a few words from their conversation and she was rendered speechless.

’’Get down from there and I will tell you,’’ she tried to drag him down but he was too heavy for her to handle him.

He blinked, ’’No. I will swim.’’

Diana was helpless against such an adorably stubborn Maxim. Not that she was not helpless against him in general but right now, she felt like agreeing to anything he said.

’Get a grip over yourself. It’s not the right time to fall for his beauty,’ With her inner voice mocking her, Diana tried to pull him down again, ’’Get down first.’’

’’No.’’

’’I am scared,’’ she snapped at him.

Maxim pulled back from her.

Diana hugged his waist tightly just in case he lost balance.

’’Scared of water?" Maxim asked as he looked around.

She was about to tell him that she was scared he might lose balance and fall from there but before she could say another word, Maxim got down from the bridge.

His footsteps faltered and he held onto her for support, ’’We won’t ever do something that scares you. Promise,’’ he even crossed her fingers as if he doubted that she would trust his words.

Diana’s heart skipped a beat.

She stood on her tiptoes and glanced at his face for a moment before she ended up ruffling his hair, ’’Let’s go home then.’’

’’With you?"

’’Yes.’’

’’Okay...’’

Diana quickly hailed a cab while Maxim hooked his arm around hers, peeking at her phone from above her shoulder.

Since Diana was not sure if Maxim had moved out of Ryle’s mansion, she took him to Silver Regency.

It was best to let him rest at her place for the night rather than leave him in Ryle’s care. That man could not even take care of his parrot properly so she doubted he would look after Maxim decently.

’’Ana...’’

’’Hmm?" Diana looked at the man who threw his arms around her waist like they were octopus’ tentacles.

The driver spared them a look from the rearview mirror and smiled knowingly before raising the partition.

"_" Diana felt like her reputation was damaged somehow.

’’Ana,’’ Maxim buried his face in her neck.

Diana stiffened. Had she known she would be punished in this way after he was drunk, she would not have mentioned alcohol in front of him, let alone provoked him to drink.

’’Why are you not responding?" Maxim nuzzled his nose in the crook of her neck, hugging her tighter.

At this point, Diana did not dare to breathe at all. When he started getting unsettled, she found her voice with much difficulty, ’’I am listening to you.’’

’’Are you?" he placed his chin on her shoulder blade and glanced up at her face.

’’Yes.’’

’’I love your eyes,’’ Maxim said all of a sudden.

’’Huh?" She tilted her head to the side as he straightened up. She was suddenly bashful. He had never said something like this before. Maybe he did but not in this tone. Was it counted as a compliment...?

’’So pretty,’’ Maxim nodded, grinning. His dimples started showing when he smiled wider.

Diana blinked. She rubbed her chest, trying to move out of his grip but he pulled her closer to him.

’’Prettiest,’’ he whispered beside her ear, his eyes fluttering close as he buried his face in her neck.

When he turned quiet, Diana’s shoulder slumped. He probably dozed off. She was relieved.

’’Ana, listen to me...’’

She gulped, ’’Listening.’’

’’You are the most beautiful girl in the world. You know it, right?"

With every word he uttered, his lips caressed the sensitive skin on her neck. Her body was reacting strangely yet as his words registered in her mind, she burst out in laughter, ’’Wine is making you muddleheaded, isn’t it?" she could not help but tease him.

Maxim straightened up and looked at her innocently.

Diana just wanted to pinch his face. If he was not drunk, he would not have said such words in such a tone even if someone aimed a gun at his head. But she realized that drunk Maxim was a pro at sweet-talking.

’’You don’t... believe me?"

She shook her head as she laughed some more upon seeing his innocent face.

His grip around her waist loosened and he inched away from her, pressing his face onto the windshield. He did not look at her anymore, "You just don’t trust me at all..." He mumbled under his breath.

With his arms gone, she felt empty for a moment.

She did not dwell on that strange feeling.

As she looked at his grumpy face, Diana had the urge to laugh again but she held herself back.

By the time they reached Silver Regency, Maxim seemed to have turned calm.

Diana believed that he was not drunk anymore so she was more or less relieved.

She helped him inside the building but he sat on one of the chairs near the reception, refusing to budge.

’’Let’s go,’’ Diana grabbed his hand and tried to pull him up.

But he just gave her blank look and continued sitting there like a statue.

After trying a few times, she gave up on it.

Diana squinted her eyes at him and walked to the side, deciding to call Daisy or Ivy for help.

Ivy did not answer the call but Diana was able to contact Daisy who sounded irked upon hearing her explanation.

’’I want to tie you both with a rope and throw you down some cliff,’’ Daisy coldly said before she hung up.

Diana rubbed her arms, soothing the goosebumps.

She already felt pity for Maxim but she could not do anything about it. He brought it upon himself. She was trying to help him gently but since he did not appreciate her gentleness, he could not blame her if Daisy handled him roughly.

With that thought, she decided to try to coax him again before Daisy came. If worse comes to worst, then she would take half the blame for him.

As she was thinking about it, she was about to walk to him.

But when she turned around, she found the place empty.

Diana glanced towards the elevator but as the door was closing, she caught glimpse of an old couple. There was no one else inside. The other elevator seemed empty as well.

The receptionist was not at the desk at the moment so she had no one to ask about Maxim.

In the end, Diana rushed out of the building and went to the gate to ask security.

Since he was the same man who saw them walking inside a few minutes ago, he recognized her. He told her that he had seen Maxim heading towards the 3rd wing.

Diana thanked him before heading in the opposite direction. The third wing was the place for supermarkets and other shops.

Diana called Maxim again but his phone was switched off.

By the time Diana reached the third wing, she was panting.

She bent forward, one hand on the wall to support herself as she rested her other hand on her knee.

Daisy always motivated her to work out more, to train herself but Diana never took her words seriously. She had the kind of constitution where she rarely gained weight regardless of anything she ate. And she hated working out naturally so since she had no desperate need for it, she always dodged it.

But at this moment, she realized why Daisy wanted her to train herself.

After running around while following Maxim, she felt like her body was about to break down.

Diana started to look around for some place to sit to catch her breath but before she could find a place, a silhouette caught her attention near the Florist’s.

The shop was dimly lit and she could not spot the florist through the glass walls. The shop owner was not there.

Diana glanced at Maxim who had his face pressed on the glass wall as he peeped inside the flower shop. He had both his palms pressed on either side of his face. He was acting rather sneaky.

Once she reached him, she patted his shoulder, ’’What do you think you are doing?"

Maxim looked at her in disbelief, ’’Shhh... Can’t you keep quiet?" he seemed to be reprimanding her.

Diana laughed in anger, ’’Why should I keep quiet?" she raised her voice subconsciously, ’’Why are you here...’’

He pressed a palm on her mouth and pinned her to the wall.
