Crashing into an Old Flame -
Chapter 180: Warner, be good!
Chapter 180: Warner, be good!
Just as Diana started to retreat, Daisy locked her eyes with Maxim provocatively before pulling Diana for a hug.
Diana was caught off guard, ’’You... Daisy, I know you missed me but I cherish your punches over your hugs,’’ she was speechless. Her sister was not the touchy-feely kind of person and her love language was mostly based on cold glares and eye rolls so she could not comprehend what she meant by this.
Did she anger Daisy somehow? Was this her way of declaring war?
Diana shivered when Daisy broke the hug and looked at her in disdain, ’’Slowpokes,’’ was all she said before she turned around and left.
Slowpokes? Why was she slow? How was she slow? Who else was slow?
"Hey, what did you mean by that?" Diana shouted but her sister waved her hand without turning back.
...
Maxim, on the other hand, was observing them since the moment Diana walked towards that guy.
He had never been this meddlesome before in his whole life.
Yet, he found himself trying to eavesdrop on what they were talking about.
Much to his displeasure, the loud music in the nightclub forbade him from being able to listen to anything.
When he saw how intimate they looked, his hand instinctively gripped the glass Diana was drinking from earlier.
But knowing how terrible his alcohol tolerance was, he had no intention of bringing the wine to his mouth. The last time Ryle got him drunk, Maxim ended up having a girlfriend the next day. He regretted that drink to this so there was no way he was going to add another regretful drink to the count.
But his thoughts vanished when he saw that scoundrel pulling Diana into his arms. Dexter even looked at him provocatively.
Maxim’s grip on the wine glass tightened subconsciously.
He had known Diana for so long yet she never mentioned this person in front of him. They seemed close to each other.
But regardless of how much she liked handsome men, Diana was not going to tolerate this action of his.
She will push him away in no time. Maxim was so confident that he did not even need to do the countdown for it.
But seconds passed and Diana seemed to have no intention of pushing him away as they remained in the hugging position.
Maxim raised the glass of wine in his hand as he wondered how severe the charges on him would be if he beat Dexter right now.
He downed the wine in the glass, lost in his thoughts as he watched Dexter leave the place.
But Diana did not turn around immediately. She stood there and kept looking at Dexter’s retreating back. She even said something to him to which he waved at her.
Was she that reluctant to let that man go?
What about him? Did she forget that she left him alone here?
Did she not want him anymore?
The bartender refilled the glass and Maxim drank the wine unconsciously.
By the time Diana made her way back to him, that was the view she was greeted with.
Maxim Warner was sitting like a reckless ruler who wanted to drink his life away tonight. No matter from which angle she looked at him, he seemed to have freshly stepped out of a painting.
Diana sighed and rubbed her heart. Why was her life so hard? She was resisting him and he was enticing her. Would he take responsibility if she lost control and did something to him?
"When I asked you for a drink, you turned me down. But now you are enjoying it alone...’’ she trailed off when she realized that he was drinking from her glass.
Her face flushed slightly.
Maxim looked at her through his lashes quietly. The look on his face reminded Diana of the indignant concubine who was neglected by the emperor.
Why was he acting cute?
She patted her warm cheeks and waited for him to speak.
But the man stared at her grievously before shifting his focus to the wine in the glass, ’’Sweet.’’
Diana smiled, knowing that he was liking the wine, ’’Then enjoy your drink. I will be right back.’’
He looked at her again and she expected him to ask where she was going. But after a few seconds, he lowered his head and continued sipping the wine.
Assuming that he was thoroughly enjoying the wine, Diana did not want to disturb him anymore.
"I am going to the washroom. Don’t worry about me,’’ she said after a moment.
He looked at her again. Nodded once. Before he looked down.
"_"
She left his side for a few moments but he seemed to have been possessed by something. She could not help but think as she stepped inside the washroom.
Diana had been drinking for hours now and even though she was not drunk but her bladder and head were not doing fine. After relieving herself, Diana washed her face.
She grabbed a few makeup remover pads from her clutch and wiped her face clean.
Back in Bejing, she always had to be dolled up for appearances but ever since she came here, she no longer had the leisure to care about such things. But it was not until today did she realize that she liked this life better.
She did not have to put on a fake persona everyday. She did not have to smile when she did not feel like it. She could throw her temper when she was down and she did not have to be restrained about every little detail regarding how to talk, how to sit, how to smile, or anything.
Those were very small things but she was growing to realize how important it was to be able to live like this. It felt good.
After freshening up, Diana went to find Maxim. But the seat that was occupied by him was empty.
’’Excuse me,’’ Diana called out to the bartender who was on the other side. When he approached her, she asked him, ’’Have you seen the man who was sitting here? Where did he go?"
The bartender seemed confused. There were many people going in and out.
’’In formals...’’ Diana quickly added, ’’He was in formals,’’ so he definitely stood out amongst the others.
’’He already left,’’ The bartender had an impression of the man, ’’He chatted with me and even gave me a huge tip because he found the wine rather sweet.’’
The expression on Diana’s face turned rather complicated. Maxim was not that jovial or idle kind of person in daily life to chit-chat about the sweetness of the wine. Why the sudden change...?
Unless... unless he was drunk...?
No way. He just had a drink or two probably. He could not get drunk by that, could he?
Yet she could not think about any other possibility.
Her expression changed and she turned around to leave.
’’Miss, don’t you want to continue drinking?" The bartender waved a glass at her. He was initially interested in her and even tried to hit on her after she returned from the dance floor but she turned him down. Yet, he was amused by the woman’s alcohol tolerance. It was not every day he got a customer that beneficial.
Diana almost stumbled and fell when she heard his words. Continue drinking? "My life would be over if I continue drinking here!"
She rushed out without looking back.
Diana just hoped that Maxim was being chatty because of the different atmosphere in the nightclub and he was not really drunk.
He was good at almost everything. He would not be a terrible drinker, would he?
’Warner, just be safe until I find you.’
Instead of leaving the nightclub directly, she first checked around just in case he was somewhere around.
But much to her disappointment, Maxim was nowhere to be seen.
Diana pulled out her phone and dialed his number as she walked out of the nightclub.
He answered the call on the second ring.
Her footsteps halted.
’’Ana.’’
His voice sent a jolt of relief inside her heart. Diana pressed her hand on her forehead as she panted, ’’Where are you?" she asked as she looked around.
’’Anaaaa~’’
"_"
’’Warner, be good. Tell me where you are,’’ At this point, she had no doubts regarding his alcohol tolerance.
’’I want to swim~" Maxim said in a soft voice.
Diana was speechless, ’’I will take you to the swimming pool. We will swim together. But you have to tell me where you are.’’
’’No!" he snapped.
"_"
’’I want to swim here in the river.’’
"_"
"Under the open sky.’’
"_"
It took Diana a moment to find her lost voice. ’’Eh... We will swim in the river together then. Let me join you, okay?" As she cajoled him, she was already making her way towards the sixth street bridge. Since he mentioned the river, there were chances that he was there near the bridge.
If he really jumped down the bridge...
