Crashing into an Old Flame
Chapter 170: Why can’t you pick a side?

Chapter 170: Why can’t you pick a side?

’’Haish, girl. Don’t try to sweet talk with me to get out of this trouble. I asked you to hide your identity and connection with me to save you from unnecessary hassle, not to get you bullied. Do you understand? They humiliated you in the hospital hallway and now they even poured wine on you yet I had no idea about this. I am cent percent sure that your old man is rolling in his grave, seeing you being wronged to this extent.’’

Diana burst out in laughter, "Grandpa Qin, who told you about it?"

’’Ma...’’

’’Ma...?"

’’Mary, the head nurse. Don’t you know her?"

Diana nodded even though he could not see it, ’’I do know her,’’ she sighed. She almost put Mary in a spot with all that drama going on there. But luckily, Mary came to her rescue and shooed away all those people or else she was afraid that Maxim would have spent another hour under the table.

When she thought about what she put him through during the date she had planned for him, Diana frowned. It was fine they messed with her but they even dragged him into it by mentioning his ex-girlfriend and whatnot. The rumors about her at the hospital were implicating his reputation to some extent as well. And the situation.... was beginning to get on her nerves.

’’Now that you mention it, I was about to call you tomorrow,’’ Diana said after some thought, ’’Grandpa Qin, I need your help with something.’’

’’I am listening.’’

’’The Qin Family is a major investor in the Beijing Medical School, right?"

’’That’s right. What about it?" Old Master Qin sounded puzzled.

Diana smiled, ’’Then...’’

After Old Master Qin hung up, Diana leaned back on the railing of the balcony as she looked up at the sky.

The moon seemed especially bright that night.

Her brows tugged together when a sudden thought crossed her mind.

Old Master Qin said that Mary reported to him about this matter.

But Mary was a professional person. What happened outside the hospital was none of the Director’s business so there was no way she would tell him about it.

Even if she did, why would she call the Director at this hour of the night when it wasn’t even an emergency?

Diana tried to recall the words Old Master Qin had spouted in anger.

’You brat, you dare to lie to me! Talk calmly, hmph, I won’t listen to that brat. I refuse to talk calmly!’

The first brat certainly referred to her but...

Won’t listen to that brat? Talk calmly?

He would not refer to Mary as a brat and Mary did not have the authority to tell him to talk calmly.

When she asked him who told him about it...

’Ma...’

Diana’s brows nearly touched her hairline when the realization dawned on her.

She felt helpless yet at the same time, something akin to warmth bubbled in her heart.

Diana hesitated for a moment before she scrolled through the contacts on her phone, stopping near ’W’ as she looked at the lone contact saved under that letter.

She started typing a text but backspaced it in the next second.

’’Ahh... Whatever. Why am I even hesitating? It’s not like he will eat me up!"

Diana tugged her hair and re-typed the text.

’Grandpa Qin called me just now. I heard you told him about what happened. Although it was not needed but thank you...’

Diana backspaced it. It sounded like she was moved to the point of tears.

Clearing her throat, she started typing again.

’Just heard about what you did. Didn’t I ask you to not get involved in my matters? You...’

Diana backspaced it again. So cold. She sounded like an ungrateful person.

She looked at her phone for another second before eventually sending a text.

Diana: Asleep? ( ̄o ̄) . z Z

The text was immediately marked as seen.

Diana straightened up, anticipating the three dots to appear but after a long time, there were no signs of it.

She waved her phone in the air, ’’I wonder if wine went into my phone as well...’’

As she brought the phone closer to her face, three dots appeared on it.

Her eyes brightened, ’’I guess not.’’

The light in her eyes dimmed when the dots disappeared and there was no reply in sight.

So, was he not replying to her on purpose?

Diana lowered her head, letting out a soft sigh.

She felt moved for nothing. She even sent him a cute emoticon yet he did not bother to reply.

She replayed their previous conversations, wondering whether she really wronged him somehow. But she could not figure it out.

He was offended by her proposal and her measures of seducing him. Seeing his frustration, she backed out of it. She even told him that she won’t pursue that matter anymore.

But why did it seem like he was even more offended about it now?

Diana locked her phone and walked inside the house, ’’Why can’t you pick a side, Warner? It’s either black or white. Why must you confuse me?" she mumbled unconsciously as she opened the door to the Master bedroom.

But the sight that greeted her vision made her halt in her tracks.

Angel was sleeping peacefully in the center of the King-sized bed while Daisy seemed to have dozed off right next to her.

Daisy’s palm was lightly placed on Angel’s cheeks and Angel was unconsciously gripping the sleeve of her leather jacket in her tiny fist.

Diana kept her footsteps light as she strode towards them and it almost felt like a dream.

Daisy’s wig had tilted back, revealing her raven black hair, and a trail of dried tears near the corner of her eyes.

Diana felt her eyes getting warm.

She raised her hand and rubbed her eyes with the sleeve of her coat.

Don’t cry. There is no reason to cry. You are not a child anymore.

Despite repeating it again and again in her head, she could not stop the tears from flowing out of her eyes.

The more she wiped them, the more they fell.
