’’You don’t have work to do?" Maxim narrowed his eyes.

’’Oh, Dexter is still hanging out with your girl. I am worried you would come for my head if they commit adultery... Hey, who are you calling at this hour?" Ryle leaned over just to catch the caller ID ’Director’ before Maxim pressed the phone to his ear.

Within a few seconds, a cheerful voice resounded even though the phone was not on speaker, ’’Boy, why are you calling this old man at this time?"

Ryle noticed the hint of hesitation on Maxim’s face but it disappeared just as quickly as it came.

’’I need your help,’’ Maxim said.

Ryle could feel his spidey senses tingling. Maxim was asking someone for help and it was so out of his character unless the person he was asking help for was... Diana.

Ryle’s thoughts trailed off when the old man’s boisterous voice was heard from the other side of the phone.

’’It’s past midnight. What help can I offer—Oh, a nightly help?" The old man’s voice went from confused to excited within a beat.

Ryle was bewildered. Nightly what?

He leaned closer till he had his ear pressed on the back of Maxim’s phone.

Probably because Maxim was thinking about something, he did not shove him away.

’’Nightly help?" Maxim repeated in confusion.

’’Boy, I am proud of you.’’

’’This old man and your mother thought that you have a long to go but you have made the progress so fast.’’

’’What’s your achievement?" Ryle poked Maxim, only to be ignored by the man.

Maxim frowned, ’’I don’t know what you are talking about,’’ he said to the old man.

’’Come on now, you already mustered your courage to call me. Now, you can’t feel ashamed at the last moment. Which man doesn’t have a shameful history?"

Maxim fell silent. Shameful history? He had yet to mention the reason he called for but why were the Director’s words so misleading? What shameful history did he have?

’’Why are you quiet now?" Old Master Qin reprimanded him in a stern tone, ’’It’s normal for a man’s performance to be affected when he is nervous or under stress. But great men don’t give up. You came to the right person for advice. Let me tell you, my ancestors were very proficient in traditional Chinese medicines. Helping you improve your performance in bed is no big deal! Bwahahaha!"

’’Pfft...’’ Ryle opened the car door and dropped back on the driver’s seat, rolling out in laughter.

Maxim’s face darkened.

’’Hmm, not the reason I guessed?’’ The old man sounded disappointed.

Maxim pondered over it for a moment before he narrated the whole incident that transpired at the restaurant earlier this night, ’’...And it did not seem like it was the first time something like that happened."

’’What?!" Old Master Qin’s furious voice rang from the other side of the phone, ’’The audacity they have. Did they take my hospital as their personal playground? That silly girl... Why did she not tell us that she was getting bullied? My dear friend must be rolling in his grave watching his granddaughter being mistreated under my watch.’’

Maxim sighed, ’’Then, I will leave it up to you. You can talk to her.’’

’’Wait... Let me ask you. You have complete authority for taking action over such matters. Why are you coming to me for help?"

Maxim fell silent. Diana was persistent in not letting him meddle in it or else, she would not have kept it from him for so long. And he did not want to go against her wishes.

But that did not mean he would let them pester her in that manner.

She was quick to assume that he was angry for being pushed under the table by her but he had no words to express how heartbroken and furious he had felt when she was drenched with wine, mocked, and humiliated. And all this while, she had kept it a secret from him.

She could always stand up for the people she cared for. She stood up against a whole class for him when they were young. Yet when it came to her... she treated herself so lightly.

As if she did not know how much he wanted to treasure her...

Maxim closed his eyes, ’’Please tell her that the head nurse informed you about this matter. And ask her what she wants. Act calm and don’t let her doubt...’’

’’....That it is you who can not stop worrying about her?" Old Master Qin sighed, ’’You young people sure are full of complications. Whatever, I will do it."

’’Thank you.’’

’’Hmph!" The old man harrumphed twice before he hung up.

Maxim glanced at his phone for another moment before shifting his attention to Ryle who seemed to be enjoying his conversation with Old Master Qin.

’’That old man really thought your sexual performance was hammered,’’ Ryle burst out in laughter.

Maxim pursed his lips.

’’Help me find someone," Maxim said after some time.

’’Let me guess. It’s related to Diana again,’’ When Maxim remained quiet, Ryle shook his head, ’’The moment you say the word ’help’, her face pops in my head without a hitch. That woman has you wrapped around her pinky. I am telling you, be careful. Don’t come to me with your depressed ass if she dumps you in the future.’’

Maxim narrowed his eyes.

Ryle coughed, ’’Who do I need to find?"

’’Daisy Chen,’’ Maxim said calmly.

’’Daisy... Chen?" Ryle plucked the daisy stuck beside his hair from the vase he was holding earlier, ’’Who is she?"

’’Chen Family, Beijing.’’

’’Daisy Chen... Diana Chen...’’ Ryle trailed off, ’’Diana is the young heiress of the Chen Family...’’

Maxim remained quiet.
