Chapter 120: Kiss on lips
Chapter 120: Kiss on lips
Diana looked at his hand confusingly and after hesitating for a moment, she stepped towards him.
He grabbed her hand, his long fingers curling around hers as he gently tugged her closer.
Maxim led her to the couch and when she sat, he knelt in front of her, ’’Just sit here...’’ Maxim let go of her hand and placed his palm on her knee as he rubbed it gently, ’’Let me get you the things you need,’’ his voice almost sounded like he was coaxing a baby and it amused her.
In the end, she shook her head, ’’It’s way past lunchtime and I have already troubled you enough. I will head over there. Just give me a moment to get changed. Have lunch and keep an eye on Angel. I will be back in two,’’ Luckily, her first day was stain-free usually.
’’To hell with food,’’ his palm which was initially rubbing her knee squeezed it and his eyes narrowed dangerously, ’’Do you want me to lay it out word by word on a page?"
Heat rose to her cheeks when his calloused palm squeezed her knee. She could feel the roughness of that graze through the thin fabric of her dress, ’’What?" she mouthed.
’’That I would choose you over things that are absolutely essential for surviving,’’ his finger tapped on her knee and he watched as her eyes widened like a deer caught in headlights, her face flushing, ’’I think we don’t need the written piece now. In case you forget it, ask me to give you written evidence of the things I would give up on for you.’’
Getting Maxim to speak so many words was already kind of an achievement worth celebrating but she was not focused on that.
Not when his words threw straight arrows to her chest. She wanted to clutch her beating organ so that it would not feel like the tiny thing was playing football inside her body.
Diana nodded stiffly.
’’Good girl,’’ he said and pushed himself to his feet.
If her face did not resemble a tomato by that time, it did now.
Diana restrained herself from raising her palms to pat her heated cheeks.
Maxim cupped her face and tilted her head slightly as he pressed a soft kiss on her forehead.
Her eyes fluttered close as he pulled back and fluffed her hair.
Maxim pushed the door to the Master bedroom where Angel was sleeping and left it open before he left her place.
As the door closed, Diana pulled her legs up to her chest and hugged her knees as she looked towards the half-ajar door of the bedroom that he had left like that to let her know in case Angel woke up.
His words still had her cheeks ablaze and his actions left another trail of warmth in her chest.
His existence in her life had always made her question everything she was familiar with and accustomed to and she was not sure whether it was a good thing or not.
...
In the supermarket.
Maxim scrolled through his phone as he looked at the necessities mentioned on the web.
One by one, he placed the things in the cart but his footsteps halted when he came to the section of sanitary napkins.
The wide variety showcased on the shelves left a flicker of confusion in his eyes.
He pursed his lips.
Thinking back to Diana’s pale face, he hurried up and did what he knew best.
Tackling things his way the way he had handled the shoe issue.
...
Diana was pacing near the bed as she watched Angel sleeping peacefully.
Since the door was not locked, she could hear the sound of the main door unlocking.
She hopped out of the room and went back to sit on the couch right where he left her.
The door opened and two seconds later, Maxim stepped inside.
Her gaze trailed down to the two bags that he was holding in his hands.
She looked at him in confusion. Did he shop for himself too?
’’How are you feeling now?" Maxim asked her as he took the smaller bag which she guessed was for her to the kitchen island.
’’Fine,’’ her gaze trailed towards the other bag that he had placed on the couch and when she saw the stuff inside the bag, she could not help but glance at it in a daze.
Maxim tilted his head from the chamomile tea that he was taking out. Looking at her dazed expression, he raised his hand and rubbed the back of his neck, ’’I was not sure what you wanted...’’ he trailed off.
She pushed herself to her feet, ’’So, you got all these?" The huge back was filled with different brands and packs of sanitary pads.
Maxim cleared his throat as he nodded, a tinge of red at the tips of his ears. But when he gazed at her, his eyes were filled with concern, ’’Do you want something else instead?" he placed the tea on the kitchen island and started approaching the door, ’’Tell me what it is and I will get it for you. Just give me 2 minutes...’’
Diana grabbed his hand, ’’No need. This is more than enough. Thank you,’’ she stood on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek as a gesture of appreciation but his face turned towards her, and her lips planted on the corner of his lips.
Both of them froze.
Diana quickly pulled back from him as if her lips caught fire, ’’Sorry... I...’’ she waved her hands, ’’It was an accident.’’
’’An accident,’’ Maxim breathed, raking his fingers through her hair.
’’I am going to take a shower...’’ Diana grabbed the bag from the floor, ’’Um...’’
He tilted his head to look at her, ’’What’s wrong?"
’’Oh, I just realized that I don’t have a change of clothes here. I haven’t moved my stuff yet,’’ she paused, "I can call Ivy to get my stuff over...’’
’’She has something on,’’ Under her questioning gaze, he elaborated, ’’She texted me earlier to inform me that she will be here tomorrow.’’
’’Oh...’’ Diana licked her bottom lips, ’’Then can you get it for me after I finish showering? I know it’s troublesome and you will have to go back and forth,’’ This new apartment of hers was completely on the opposite side of the Mansion in Arkell Hills.
