Conquering His Cold Heart
Chapter 467 - 467: Healed

"How's that boy? Cillian?" Everard asked his beta after closing the last file for the night. "Has he made any progress yet?" he asked, sounding guilty for almost causing someone's death.

Jerome picked up the file that Everard had just closed so that he could take that to his own workroom. Then he answered while meeting Everard's gaze, "All of his wounds have more or less healed. The doctor said that his lungs should have patched up as well."

"That's good." Everard gave a nod.

There was still a deep frown lingering between his brows when he further probed, "And what about his um… his mental state? You mentioned earlier that he was still not responding properly and doesn't want many people around him."

"Unfortunately, he still seems to be in a state of shock." Jerome also looked guilty for ever having approached that poor boy and bringing him bad luck when all that he was trying to do was help that boy get a place to belong.

Everard rested his elbow on the table and then pinched the bridge of his nose. After letting out a deep sigh, he asked, "Alright. Keep on tending to his needs for now. And keep me updated about his condition."

Jerome slightly bowed his head in agreement. He briskly took a few steps to leave the room before coming to a halt and then looking back at Everard.

When Everard also looked up at him, he asked politely, "Umm… Cillian doesn't speak much. But when he does, he keeps on asking about you. Maybe he wants to apologize to you or something."

"I'm the one who hurt him!" Everard was quick to cut Jerome off. "Why would he want to apologize?"

"Maybe because he thinks that he stood in your path and caused the accident himself?" Jerome gave a slight shrug.

He then quickly shook his head and muttered, "Anyway, that's not important. What I am trying to say is that you may personally visit him if you want and see his progress for yourself. That might put both of you at ease."

'He is right,' Everard thought. He had been wanting to visit Cillian and apologize to him personally.

"Okay. Why don't we go and visit him right now?" he gave an inquisitive look to Jerome.

Jerome scratched his head and asked in a little hesitant manner, "Now?"

Everard shrugged and replied with a question, "Why not? Do you think he might already be asleep?"

Jerome thought for a moment and concluded to himself that even if Cillian was asleep, he wouldn't mind being disturbed by Everard.

So, he agreed to the King's request. "Sure." He gestured towards the door and added, "I will lead the way."

Within the next few minutes, the two of them were already standing outside the room where Cillian was currently staying.

Jerome knocked on the door and announced their presence, "Cillian, His Majesty is here to see how you are doing. We are coming inside."

Though they didn't hear the response from inside the room, they went in after waiting for a minute or so.

The room was still dimly lit. The lantern that was by Cillian's bedside was still burning, shedding a subtle yellow glow on the sleeping boy.

"Are you sleeping?" Jerome asked in a very low and polite manner.

Cillian instantly opened his eyes and looked at Jerome. He slightly shook his head in response.

Jerome didn't see Cillian acknowledging the presence of the King. Thus, he turned his head to find that Everard was still standing near the door and staring intently at the boy.

Jerome looked at Cillian again and said, "His Majesty is here to see you. He is really worried."

Upon the mention of the King, Cillian instantly sat up on his bed. His eyes fell on the tall man standing by the door with a soft expression on his face.

His heart immediately began to race because although Everard didn't look hostile at the moment, he assumed that Everard was there to punish him or scold him.

Everard, sensing the fear in Cillian's eyes, quickly came forward and said kindly, "Don't worry, Cillian. I am not here to reprimand you. It was my fault that you went through such a terrible accident."

Cillian vigorously shook his head as if to deny that the King was at fault.

He swallowed dryly and then looked down before muttering, "I should have moved away after realizing that you wouldn't be able to control your momentum in time. But I froze there like a fool. If anyone, it was my own fault. I apologize for being a nuisance."

Everard's lips curved upward to form a subtle smile. "You're anything but a nuisance," he said, his voice as polite as ever.

Jerome was standing at the sideline and silently watching the two of them talking.

"So, how are you feeling now?" Everard finally asked.

He even took a few steps closer to the bed so that he could see Cillian's chest properly. He felt a little reassured when he didn't see any bandages underneath Cillian's loosely fitted shirt.

Cillian subconsciously pressed his palm over his chest and answered, "I'm all healed, thank you for your concern, Alpha. I appreciate all the help and care I got from everyone. And…"

He dreamily darted his eyes around the room and added, "Thank you for letting me stay here and being so hospitable to some nobody like me." He was genuinely surprised by how he was being treated like an important guest when they could have just left him to die or dumped him out of the castle already.

Everard let out a sigh of relief. Unlike what he was told, Cillian didn't look like he was still in shock. Cillian was speaking fine.

"That's the least I could do for you after what happened." He pressed his lips into a thin line and looked away.

There was an absolute silence in the room for a while.

Cillian happened to wonder if it was the right time to talk about Ruby.

'Should I tell him that Ruby is in Atkinson Mansion?'

His heart suddenly began to drum inside his chest as if it was ready to come out of his mouth. He had never been this nervous in his life, not even when he was being questioned by Regulus.

'What the hell am I going to say? Just blurt it out? Or should I start with some context?' He began to panic at the thought.
