Conquering His Cold Heart -
Chapter 462 - 462: Routine
Caspian's order made one thing crystal clear to Zenon.
'So, he hasn't given up on the Queen yet…'
Zenon took a breath of relief after hearing the King's order.
He was relieved because it showed that the King still cared about the things that mattered and that he hadn't lost his rationality yet.
As long as the King was in control of his emotion, the Kingdom was safe. Especially with the constant ongoing protests that were happening around the clock, Zenon didn't want the King to lose control of himself, making the Kingdom vulnerable to internal conflict.
"Didn't you hear what I just said?"
The sharp voice of the King woke Zenon up from his daydream.
Zenon lowered his head and replied politely, "I understand, Your Majesty."
However, rather than immediately heading out and passing the King's order, Zenon wanted to make sure of something.
"Your Majesty, I wanted to confirm something before I do that," he said in a somewhat uneasy tone.
Caspian's frown deepened seeing Zenon's delay in carrying out his order. But he still gave Zenon permission to speak.
Zenon clutched his fists, unsure if it was the right time for him to bring out the topic that was bothering him. But he still spoke in a single breath, "I wanted to know if I am still eligible to hold the position as your Advisor."
Caspian didn't understand the meaning behind Zenon's question at first. He was about to ask why Zenon said so when the images of him inflicting physical harm on Zenon resurfaced before his eyes.
After listening to Hamilton, Caspian had forgiven Vincent in his heart. However, the same was not the case for Zenon.
Caspian didn't care if Zenon had concealed that file out of concern for Anastasia, it was true that Zenon had indeed broken his trust.
Nevertheless, it was also true that Zenon had supported him for centuries and had turned him into the capable King that he was today.
He didn't want to let go of such a capable person, let alone punish him for his one mistake which he committed out of concern for the Queen.
However, instead of giving a straight answer to Zenon, Caspian fell victim to his impulsiveness and grumbled, "I will give you one month to prove your usefulness to me. I need that cure within a month. Anyhow. You can directly get involved in the investigation if you want."
Caspian's blood-red eyes pierced through Zenon's soul when he glared right at his advisor and uttered each word carefully, "If you aren't successful in obtaining the cure for my wife, I will execute you the very day that my wife takes her last breath."
Zenon instantly felt goosebumps all over his body when the King finished saying that.
His immortal life now had a deadline.
If there was no cure for the Queen, the chance of which was very high considering how everyone from the Queen's family seemed to have given up, then his life would also come to an end.
Zenon deeply bowed to Caspian and answered in a voice that showed his skepticism, "I will do my best to find the cure for Her Majesty."
---
The long and dark night inevitably passed, giving way to a brand new day.
The dark clouds that were looming all over the sky as if they were going to swallow the sky whole were now no longer visible.
Though still cold, it was a bright day.
And yet, the bright day couldn't bring about a change in Caspian's mood, neither could it erase the constant tension nor pressure in the air of the castle.
When Caspian went to his study room, a letter from Zenon was waiting for him. The letter stated how Zenon had also decided to personally travel around the world in search of a cure that might not even exist.
Caspian put the letter aside and entangled his long fingers as he laid back on his chair and went into his deep thoughts again.
He had not yet sorted out the overwhelming emotions that were attacking his chest.
After all, the matter wasn't that light that could be sorted out in a single day and a single night.
In Zenon's absence, there was nobody to remind the King of his schedules. Even if there were those who were aware of the King's schedule, they didn't dare to stand in front of the King and possibly face a stroke of bad luck.
Since no one was there to nudge him, Caspian spent half the day in his study, doing nothing but falling victim to his overwhelming thoughts.
He only returned to the real world when a maid walked in with a tray. He didn't even realize that in his dazed state, he had allowed the maid to come inside the room.
The maid bowed to Caspian and said in a scared low voice, "Your Majesty, the Queen sent you your afternoon tea."
Caspian scoffed at the sight of the steaming hot teacup.
'Why was I even entertaining this stupid teatime? I have to vomit almost every day after drinking it.'
Nevertheless, he gestured for the maid to place the teacup on his desk and then asked, "Where's the Queen? What is she doing?"
The maid kept her head low as she answered, "Her Majesty is in her chamber. She brewed the tea for you and went back to studying her book."
Caspian was a little disappointed that Anastasia had sent the tea with a maid instead of coming to his study and brewing it in front of him.
Without him realizing it, it had become a part of his routine.
But then again, he couldn't blame Anastasia because it was he who didn't want her in the same room as him.
'She must have been hurt when I shouted at her yesterday.'
A sense of guilt washed over his heart. However, he quickly suppressed that feeling before it could spread and render him unable to control himself from going to his wife that instant.
Caspian subconsciously began to sip his tea. The taste and smell of the tea hadn't changed despite all the disputes that had recently transpired between him and his wife.
Even though he had to empty his stomach after drinking the aromatic tea, he still loved drinking it. After all, his wife had specially learned to brew the tea just for him. He couldn't say no to that.
"Caspian."
A deep voice interrupted Caspian from enjoying his tea.
He frowned at the tall figure that was standing near the door and mumbled in a displeased voice, "Cousin. You're still here!"
